Committed to the cause of the Resistance, Finn fights alongside his closest friends to defeat the First Order – the evil regime he once served as a stormtrooper.

What a bunch of racists Hasbro employees are! They made the only prominent black character in Star Wars ever wait eight ungodly years to be added to the priceless The Vintage Collection! Of course, we say this in jest, but we’re curious to know why it took Hasbro so long to get an existing and super-articulated action figure based on a main character from Disney Star Wars into the line. Lucasfilm robbed any potential Finn could have had in The Force Awakens. He could have taken the lead in the story but then relegated as not much more than a comic relief background character who panted more than had dialogue. That said, Finn (Starkiller Base) is an obvious choice for inclusion in The Vintage Collection. Interestingly, this figure was called Finn (Jakku) in The Black Series [Phase III] lineup, and now it is called Finn (Starkiller Base). While the figure is repainted with differing colors and upgraded Photo Real printing on the face, not much else separates the two. They’re essentially the exact action figure, no matter what planet they’re supposed to be from. Finn (Starkiller Base) is a micro-sized dead ringer to John Boyega in The Force Awakens. Although lightly accessorized, the figure brings collectors an elevated version of the character in action figure form, and for longtime collectors, this slight upgrade shouldn’t be a difficult decision to make as an addition to your collection.

With an impressive 27 points of articulation, Finn (Starkiller Base) adds another character from The Force Awakens to the super-articulated The Vintage Collection line. In many ways, just a scaled-down version of 2015’s TBS [P3] Finn (Jakku) (01) figure, Finn (Starkiller Base) comes with an impressive array of articulation. Some joints are still a tad loose, but it doesn’t inhibit how you can pose the action figure. The arms provide tremendous movement, which is excellent for wielding various weaponry, but this action figure only comes with a blaster. Why didn’t they include a lightsaber accessory here? This release is based on the character’s appearance on Starkiller Base. Does Hasbro consider any of these critical details before releasing their action figures? The accessory here is a Resistance blaster rifle, and we have to admit that Hasbro decorated it beautifully, even if the design may not be 100% accurate. Compared to the 6-inch version, one has to be wrongly colored because they’re so different.) Hasbro cleaned up some of the finer details on this release, like ensuring the sleeves match the jacket shell perfectly, something Hasbro messed up on the first version. Overall, many positive things are happening here. We want to note, however, that the modern technology Hasbro employs to make the latest TVC figures will make this one feel a little outdated or perhaps obsolete.

Once again, the most disappointing aspect of the Finn (Starkiller Base) figure is the packaging. We cannot comprehend why Hasbro doesn’t spend enough time to ensure they choose the best character photos for figures in The Vintage Collection. Lately, the images of the character have been off-center or at awkward angles, and they are even blurry. Graphic designer experts should be crafting the packaging for these action figures, so what has been going on in the last couple of years? The character photo for Finn (Starkiller) features the character with an awkward expression, in a contorted posture, and in a still that doesn’t represent or capture the heart of the scene while on Starkiller Base. To do this figure right, Hasbro should have chosen a still that shows Finn wielding the lit lightsaber used during the battle with Kylo Ren. That said, we do appreciate the new card art, especially the colorful reverse side. The return of character bios is also lovely, and aside from wishing they’d include cross-selling figures with the featured figure, it’s incredible to see elements of TVC 1.0 implemented in this phase of the line. But the magic here is the action figure, and we don’t know how much excitement any action figure from the Sequel Trilogy will create in the community that collects action figures from The Vintage Collection. Maybe it’s the packaging that will help them achieve overall success.
