Everyone is anticipating
the big marketing mail-away Galactic Hunt this
spring, but George Lucas isn't the first mail-away Star
Wars toy, and probably won't be the last. This weeks
eBay spotlight takes a peek at just a few of the many
mail-aways available over the years, starting with the
very first one: the original early
bird kit and early
bird figures. After that, there were mail-aways
every year through the vintage collecting years. There
were figures, such as the Emperor,
and several more display stands, like the display
arena and a plastic
stand with a cool Star Wars backdrop. Another
very cool mail-away item was an ESB accessory
kit that included some unique items, like a grapple
hook and breath masks.
The mail-aways didn't
end with the vintage line. Their rebirth started with
the previously never released Han
Solo in Stormtrooper Disguise, offered through Froot
Loops. We also saw an offer through Frito-Lay for a
Spirit
of Obi-Wan figure, and a very cool Episode
I Mace Windu. There are many, many more, so search
around and you might be surprised at the cool collectibles
you can find!

Todays
Visual Guide update features another from the Saga Collection.
This one is a unique variant in the new Battle of Geonosis wave. Like Darth Vader,
C-3PO comes packed in two different styles. C-3PO either comes packaged sporting
a battle droid head, or his own head. What makes this so unique? Well, when he has
the battle droid head, he comes packaged as a villian, and when he has his own head
he is a hero. Which means double-trouble for card variation hunters. Because the
villian version comes with villain mini-holograms, and the hero version comes with
hero mini-holograms, making that 12 variations in all!

However, one cannot talk about Star Wars collecting this week and not talk about Toy Fair taking place right now in New York, so Arnie interviewed us, Jedi Temple Archives, to get his first hand reaction to the new offerings from Sideshow, Gentle Giant, Master Replicas, Lego, and Hasbro. And he mentions something about getting a little snow in New York as well.

Master Replicas thrilled us with their new Y-Wing studio scale, but that was nothing compared to what their next studio scale will be: The Millenium Falcon. They didn't have a prototype on hand, but the design boards and scaled reference were enough to whet our appetites! We also got to try out the new duel-bladed Darth Maul lightsaber. This very well done force FX saber will be available in both a single pack, and a 2-pack. We'll have our full photo gallery up later, which will also include the mini-blasters, poker set, and even an...umbrella? You have to see that one to believe it!
