Specially outfitted to withstand bitter arctic climes, Snowtroopers were deployed on many different frozen worlds, but perhaps most notably in the Battle of Hoth where the Imperial Blizzard Force defeated the Alliance to Restore the Republic. In order to protect Snowtroopers against unforgiving climate extremes, they wore a white rugged body suit, to aid in camouflage, but also provide thermal insulation. They were also outfitted with an armored body shell and a unique breather hood built into their facemask that would facilitate breathing in extreme cold and or dangerous atmospheres. Armed with E-11 carbine blasters and thermal detonators, Snowtroopers also commonly employed E-Web heavy repeating blasters in battle.
Is Sideshow Collectibles actually making the next 1:6 Scale Figure better than the last, or are we just more impressed that they’re giving clones a rest and digging a little bit deeper into the Original Trilogy now? The character selection in recent memory is a dream come true. Focusing on bounty hunters from Episode V and now a cold weather Imperial stormtrooper in Hoth battle gear, Sideshow Collectibles has found a way to capture the attention of collectors for the first time (or once again) who decidedly purchase other stuff besides Hasbro’s stifled basic figure lineup. The Snowtrooper is a marvel. That’s the simplest way we can put it. We don’t know how, but it’s evident that they’ve eclipse all previous 1:6 Scale Figure efforts before it. Not a detail is off and the likeness and features of the costume are probably the most impressive to date. Perfectly accessorized and doubtful they’d ever be able to make this character look better, the Snowtrooper is a figure consider without hesitation if you’re looking to jump on this high-end and larger scaled bandwagon. We’ll go through all of the details as bets we can here, but know that you’ll never get the true sense of this figure until you hold its wonder in your hands. Again, this marvelous 1:6 Scale Figure is about the best work Sideshow Collectibles has done. We hope you take our claims seriously.
Sideshow Collectibles utilized the Prometheus 1.1 body type. This means that the figure offers incredible versatility and articulation out the yin-yang. We noticed right off of the bat that the Snowtrooper is much lighter than other Militaries Of Star Wars characters in this line. Undoubtedly, this is due to the design of the head sculpt. It’s essentially hollow, but don’;t be dismayed by this fact. Sideshow Collectibles expertly designed a two-part helmet that functions as the figure’s portrait. The top portion is hard shiny plastic and the “bib” (for lack of a better word) has been cast in a very rubbery and bendable material. Surprisingly, this gives the effect that it has a natural drape and due to its softness, it’s able to move around when turning the head to the left and the right without bunching up or looking like it' is indeed a rubbery material. The effects it gives is impressive beyond measure. We were actually startled to realize that this part of the figure is so bendable and rubbery. Probably the greatest aspect here is the opportunity to inspect the Snowtrooper’s outfit up close and personally. You will never understand the full design of a Snowtrooper on a Hasbro action figure, but you will here. The Snowtrooper actually wears the equivalent of a white shower robe, so the sleeves, back portion and “kama” are all one piece. He isn’t solely wearing a kama.
Hard plastic armored pieces adorn the moleskin/felted “robe”. The harder plastic pieces include gauntlets, shoulder armor, knee armor, a code piece, chest and abdomen armor. The neatest feature is how his survival backpack attaches to his body however. Two rubbery straps (we’re so thrilled that Sideshow is giving rubber a workout now on the 1:6 Scale Figures) with four holes are used to attach the survival backpack to his posterior. The holes are able to be stretched widely so that four pegs on the backpack can be put through the holes and then when you return the straps to their normal state they tighten and lock the backpack in place. What’s more, Sideshow Collectibles has designed miniature backpack connectors (just like what we had on our book bags at school, just smaller) that tightens the front chest armor to the survival backpack so there is no awkward slack. The armor stays nice and tight against the figure which makes it look phenomenal. The deco given to his white outfit is beyond impressive. Hoth is apparently much dirtier than we had realized. As a nod the vintage Kenner figure, Sideshow Collectibles has created the long rifle that came with the figure in 1980. It’s the exclusive piece and is limited to 1500 total pieces. The Hoth inspired base is also a wonderful addition here. There really isn’t one thing to complain about here, except maybe the price, but even that is tolerable in light of what Sideshow Collectibles has done for us here.
