Scout Trooper (Ewok Attack) (Star Wars Animated) - Maquettes

We’d imagine that there is no collector middle ground with the Gentle Giant Ltd. Maquettes line. It is probably a safe bet to say that you either love them or are indifferent about them. But as far as we’re concerned, we think they are about the greatest things since sliced bread. There are the manifestation of artistry and they offer something fresh, new and exciting in a hobby that can desensitize you over time when things become too repetitious. Gentle Giant Ltd. is very committed to this lineup and it is there goal to prevent the line from becoming dull and boring. They only release pieces periodically and many of them are exclusive in nature. In fact, most have been reserved as retailer exclusives in recent memory. The awesome Entertainment Earth exclusive is the next in line for collectors to appreciate and we have to admit it may be one of their finest efforts. While similar to other licensees’ takes on the Battle of Endor, Gentle Giant Ltd. puts a twist on it by adding a Scout Trooper instead of a Stormtrooper getting pummeled by Ewoks.

The Scout Trooper (Ewok Attack) Maquette is a lovely Maquette. If you have read our other reviews on this line, you probably know how obsessed we are with what deems a Maquette a Maquette. By definition, a Maquette is an artistic interpretation of a character, but functionally it is one piece. In other word, the Maquette itself or any of its parts cannot be removable. If they are, they it is a faux Maquette (for lack of a better word). The Princess Leia Organa As Boushh Maquette is not a true Maquette because it comes with removable parts. But thankfully the Scout Trooper (Ewok Attack) Maquette is and a big part of the reason we love it is because of that. The Scout Trooper is trying to fend of three Ewok warriors. Sadly, the packaging doesn’t identity who they Ewoks actually are. We tried to compare them to action figures Hasbro has already made and we’re pretty much at a loss at who they may be. You’ll have to use your own creativity to determine who the fuzz balls are. The Ewoks are adorably angry and hanging on to the Scout Trooper like a tree in the jungle. Even the Scout Trooper’s blaster pistol won’t save him from certain doom.

With a dynamic sculpt and accurate scale, the Scout Trooper (Ewok Attack) is only eclipsed in detail by its paint job. We are at a loss to come up with another Maquette that has a better paint job. Typically these pieces have spotty paint jobs and sometimes the lines are very sloppily applied. It seems as if Gentle Giant Ltd. has raised the bar with this piece in particular. We always have believed that the way a piece like this is painted can make or break it. But it isn’t an issue to worry about here. The animated Maquettes line obviously isn’t for everyone. With a price point of nearly $100 and an edition size of 1000, it’s monetarily and physically impossible for every Star Wars collector to own one. And only a fraction of all collectors collect outside of the Hasbro line anyway. We just hope that Gentle Giant Ltd remains committed to continually bring this line to collectors for the unforeseeable future. If you love the Battle of Endor and Ewoks, this Maquette is a dream come true. But we hope they continue to design Maquettes based on characters from Return Of The Jedi. They seem to be their best efforts overall.
