The Disney Store is proud to introduce the Star Wars Toybox range of action figures, bringing adventures to life with characters from across The Walt Disney Company.

As we have said countless times before, a new scale or line of figures means another Rey is coming to your local retailer. Rey is the second figure in the curious and interesting Star Wars Toybox figures line. Disney decided to open the line with a Sequel Trilogy collection of characters. And if we had to pick three for ourselves, we’d probably go with what Disney has gone with here. Love it or hate it, the Sequel Trilogy has a newfound audience, but when it comes to collectibles, the buying market is seemingly pre-Disney focused. Sure, there are longtime Star Wars collectors who have found interest in the new Sequel Trilogy characters. But for many more of us, we hoped that the new Star Wars films would serve as a catalyst for toymakers to make Original Trilogy, Prequel Trilogy and Expanded Universe characters with incredible urgency. Some licensees have taken great advantage of this opportunity and have made some of the greatest collector-focused items we have ever seen. Funko comes to mind. But other licensees and Disney are sadly caught in a wash, rinse and repeat of rehashing the same things over and over again without much ingenuity or newness mixed into the pot. In many ways, it feels like it’s Groundhog Day with the Star Wars line. It’s time to shake things up. This line has the potential to shake things up.

So we have another Rey. Yawn. That being said, the new Star Wars Toybox line is an articulation junky’s dream come true. While super-articulation is getting resurrected in 2018 with Hasbro, it’s so refreshing to see Disney produce a line of Star Wars figures that right out of the gate are super-articulated like these figures are. Sure, some enhancements like “rocker” ankles and other updated points of articulation would make these figures flawless, but overall we cannot complain at all with what Disney has done with this line. And we’re only at the first wave of figures! This stylized line is based on the Disney Infinity game (which is now defunct). This means the figures look like caricatures of the actual characters with a strong focus of an animated likeness. Because of this, collectors are either going to adore or dislike this approach. For us, we loved the Tartakovsky Clone Wars animated line, so we’re completely onboard with the Star Wars Toybox line as well. While we’re indifferent about the Sequel Trilogy, we hope this line will produce Star Wars greats like Han Solo, Boba Fett, Darth Vader and Darth Maul among many, many more fantastic Star Wars characters. Rey is a testament to how incredible Star Wars figures look within this scale, and we hope that interest in strong enough to see this line thrive for a couple of year at the very least.

Rey has an expression of irritability on her face. Perhaps she has dealt with one too many cutthroats on Jakku, or maybe she is just aggravated that she has to go through Jedi Training when she already knows all there is to be known about it. We’re not sure. Either way, aside from the cross expression, the figure has been designed well. Rey comes with a most impressive 26 points of articulation. Unlike Kylo Ren, Rey only has a ball-socket head, but it works in this instance. The rest of the figure is treated with supreme and premium ball-jointed articulation. She can move very well, but she is a little bit inhibited in the lower body thanks to the design of her outfit. She is still able to move quite well and can achieve a variety of poses to make most collectors happy. We would have loved to see a little more versatility in her movement, but generally speaking, she is pretty decent for an action figure. Rey comes with a lightsaber accessory, and that’s about it. She’s only able to hold it in her right hand because her left hand is posed in some Force waving gesture. The coloring of the action figure looks spot on, and it doesn’t appear that Disney missed any important details in her sculpting. The Star Wars Toybox is is a great line. We just hope to see the most popular Star Wars characters in this range. Tell us who wouldn’t love a Boba Fett in this line?
