Set in the dark times between the fall of the Republic and the rise of the Rebellion, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed video game explores the aftermath of Order 66 and the continued evolution of Darth Vader. The son of a fallen Jedi is abducted by Vader to be his secret apprentice. As a young adult, the apprentice must choose his destiny: Join Lord Vader and wipe out the remaining Jedi, or become a noble Jedi and bring hope to the galaxy!

There really isn’t any better word used to describe the Toys R Us exclusive Star Wars: The Force Unleashed Figure Packs than awesome. The Force Unleashed has clearly lost no steam and still ranks high on many collectors’ lists as one of the best Star Wars multimedia events of all time, despite having a very rough start. It took some time to get kick-started, but it came through with a reverent vengeance and collected a lot of new collectors along the way. Hasbro successfully balanced out the sets so that each contained about the same type of figures in each. The figures that you may consider repacks here (except for the Shadow Stormtrooper) really aren’t. Enhancements and upgrades have been made to get these figures to an acceptably high level of quality and Hasbro has clearly spent some time researching the most accurate paint decorations for this release. And the new figures are just simply a pleasure to add to your growing The Force Unleashed sub-collection. Each set offers the collector a great value and there are some very awesome characters contained within them. Hasbro also uses this opportunity to correct and update past figures that were done wrong the first time making them all-new by today’s standards. The final product is a pure joy and we hope that The Force Unleashed continues to bring Star Wars fans a whole new world of awesome characters and updates to some of our current favorites, correcting even some game-inaccurate details that now give us definitive interpretations of these characters.

When we got our very first Imperial Jumptrooper in 2008’s second wave of the 30 (77-07) line, collectors immediately noticed that the figure was sorely absent of his much needed jetpack. Hasbro has corrected this problem and we now have an Imperial Jumptrooper completely accurate to the video game character. Hasbro also clean up the lines and details leaving you with a crisp looking action figure. The back jetpack fits into a discrete hole in the figure’s back and while it is a tad loose and has the potential to fall off more easily than stay on, we think it is a brilliant enhancement to this already excellent action figure. The details on the jetpack are also something for you to get excited. You won’t find any shoddily applied paint deco here. It has been done with great care and excellence. PROXY is the first droid that we have received in The Force Unleashed line. Hasbro did announce that this figure was intended to be part of the Build A Droid premium for the Legacy Collection, but since that line ended with the Expanded Universe wave (also a Toys R Us exclusive), it was salvaged for this multipack. The all-new droid is very spindly and looks like something you would see in a “just outside the Star Wars universe” environment. The droid has a ton of detail and is reminiscent of the Episode I C-3PO character. Galen Marek holds two spots in these special five-packs. But in this set he is as he appears in bounty hunter disguise. Come on, there had to be something in bounty hunter disguise in The Force Unleashed, right? The figure definitely borrows older parts, but has been made to look all-new thanks to expert cobblers at Hasbro. The Mandalorian helmet fits very nicely over his head and Galen Marek is truly believable as a bounty hunter. He is definitely one of the highlights in this second pack.

We actually think one of the best figures in both sets is the repainted Felucian Warrior. When we checked out the reference materials thoroughly and Hasbro has nailed the color scheme perfectly with this release. Gone are the extremely bright oranges and yellows and in their place are dark foreboding colors like gray and dark blue. Even the Felucian Warrior’s weapon has been painted so much better for this release. The skull on the weapon has spotting and weathering that just looks splendid and very realistic. We really wish that this figure came with the 2008 TAC TARGET exclusive Battle Rancor With Felucian Rider And Saddle. It would have made a much better statement. The only figure duplicated for the sets is the Shadow Stormtrooper. And from what we can tell, they are identical in every way. We don’t see any variances in the paint job and both figures have been cast from the same mold. While it is a good sculpt, the biggest issue with this figure is the design of the legs. You really cannot pose this figure below the waist in a productive way. Maybe the ankle joints will help give you some resistance when balancing him in a pose, but the legs just aren’t functional as they need to be. So if you’re OK with standing these Shadow Stormtroopers in a very basic pose, you should be fine. The Force Unleashed sets are really free from any filler figures. Each candidate that made it into this set has been a tremendous upgrade or a very welcomed new addition. And even though we got nine (ten including the duplicate Shadow Stormtrooper) never-before-available The Force Unleashed Star Wars figures (we consider the Imperials new), it makes us want another half dozen more very soon. The Star Wars: The Force Unleashed Figure Packs are full of quality, value and very cool action figures. We suggest making them a part of your collections too.
