Commanding officer of the Resistance cruiser Ninka, Vice Admiral Holdo has been a trusted ally of General Leia Organa for years. Holdo radiates a quiet confidence with her measured words, but will it be enough to light the encroaching darkness?
"Are you an angel? I’ve heard the deep space pilots talk about how they withhold relevant information during the battle against the First Order. They live on Ninka cruisers of the Resistance. They’re the most purplish creatures in the universe." Well, Vice Admiral Holdo may not be an angel, but that doesn’t stop her from including a halo-like ornamentation on her crown. The beautiful Vice Admiral Holdo is a character that not too many Star Wars fans understood. A Sequel Trilogy counterpart to the fan-favorite Mon Mothma, Vice Admiral Holdo leads the Resistance under the direction of General Leia Organa through many exploits and does a good job of keeping her plans in secrecy, much to the frustration of the Resistance working under her direction. The character, played by the illustrious Laura Dern, didn’t get developed in a way that fans had hoped. Hoping to see a strong and confident woman lead the Resistance is a theme that was established in the Original Trilogy, but many feel she didn’t live up to so many of her predecessors.
The good news is that Hasbro designed a spectacular action figure of Vice Admiral Holdo for The Black Series [Phase III] 6” line, and the final production of the figure is simply unbelievable. With a super strong resemblance to actress Laura Dern (and even a little bit of a younger Kate Pierson of the B-52s), Vice Admiral Holdo enters the line with the elevated confidence and sincere believability her onscreen character lacked. From a stunningly gorgeous and smart use of soft-goods to the exquisitely sculpted hairstyle and athletic frame tooled, fans who didn’t warm up to her in The Last Jedi may be giving this character a second glance thanks to the art applied to the action figure. The “photorealistic” technology blows us away. It’s come so far in such a short amount of time. And Vice Admiral Holdo is the recipient of some beautifully applied deco. No one can doubt how stunning this figure looks, whether you appreciate The Last Jedi or not. And there are a few other details which you shouldn’t neglect to appreciate either. There is much to appreciate here.
We must draw your attention from the material used to recreate her close-fitting gown. Hasbro knocked it out of the part. Made from a Spandex-like stretchy material, it holds its shape across her lean and athletic body and beautifully creates a silhouette that is strongly reminiscent of what we see in Episode VIII. The material that creates most of the gown reaches from her neck to her boots. And then Hasbro tooled a molded plastic draped piece that hangs down her back. They matched the colors perfectly, so the seamlessness created an impressively realistic result. Hasbro loaded Vice Admiral Holdo with a ton of articulation. Her gown slightly inhibits some of her movement, but, remember, it stretches and moves effortlessly, and you can ride it up her legs a bit or twist to allow for optimal positioning of the figure. She comes with a blaster pistol, and it fits perfectly in her right hand. Like her or dislike her, no one can say this figure is garbage. It’s another one of Hasbro’s finest efforts. Appreciate her for the approach Hasbro utilized making her, not necessarily for what she did in The Last Jedi.
