Research Droids Reviews Under Construction! Update #15

Posted by Paul | May 19, 2010 at 10:49 AM ET |

JTA's Research Droids Reviews are Under Construction! August is a far way off for all the new product and while we will continue to present you with a new review each day, we decided to "spiffy up" some of our older reviews by adding new photo galleries and new edits of the reviews as well as other collector-friendly notes.

Today's update includes all the red phase Legacy Collection and The Clone Wars Battle Packs. We got some great figures in these including Warok, an awesome Luke Skywalker (Battle Poncho) and an update to the 327th Star Corps clone trooper including ball-jointed hips! And Hasbro updated some pre-2000s concepts and made them very modern! Be sure to spend some time and check out the hard work we're doing for you behind the scenes. We will be doing periodic updates of our older reviews until we're done, so keep checking back with us. Click through to check out our latest updates:

Review: Han Solo (Hoth Outfit) - TSC - Vintage

Posted by Paul | May 19, 2010 at 01:20 AM ET |

Warmer, warmer. You are getting warmer to the clue of what our 1 year review will be! Han Solo (Hoth Outfit) was a pure pleasure, even though he wasn't perfect. Research Droids Reviews inspects him from head to toe and we recommend checking out our thoughts. And since the 30th anniversary of The Empire Strikes Back is right around the corner, we thought focusing some of the reviews on figures based on this source would be very fitting. Life Size Captain Rex LEGO Statue At Toys R Us

Qui-Gon Jinn & Eopie - New Update

Posted by Paul | May 17, 2010 at 09:11 PM ET |

We have another update on the Qui-Gon Jinn & Eopie mail-away figures. It appears there must have been a load of procrastinators on the last day of the deadline of the promotion (March 31, 2010). Last we heard, Hasbro was mailing the second shipment on May 10, 2010. Now, we have received a revised postcard with a new shipping date of July 15, 2010. Man, some of us are going to have to wait a long time until we finally receive them. Click through for the updated letter!

Research Droids Reviews 1 Year In The Making!

Posted by Paul | May 17, 2010 at 08:17 PM ET |

It's hard to believe for us already, but JTA is celebrating 1 year of our daily Research Droids Reviews on Monday, May 24, 2010. To celebrate this landmark, we have a very special 1 year anniversary review in the works. But to help tease you a little bit more (or perhaps give you clues to what the 1 year review is), the next six reviews starting tomorrow should give you some inkling of where we're going. Be sure to stay tuned! Thank you so much for your daily loyalty reading these! It means the world to us!

Review: Gamorrean Guard - Life Size Bust

Posted by Paul | May 17, 2010 at 12:55 AM ET |

It's really an amazing feat, but Sideshow keeps outdoing themselves time and again. TARGET Follows Suit!

Posted by Paul | May 16, 2010 at 11:17 AM ET |

TARGET is late in the game but has caved and lowered their basic figure prices to $4.99 just like Toys R Us and Walmart. Not that they have a big selection left on the pegs, you may just be able to find some fillers for your collection. Price reduction will be good through June 5, 2010. Let's hope those two hard to find The Clone Wars waves (the Sidious wave and the Hondo wave) make it to retail heavily before the line changes over! Click through for the proof.

Review: The Sith Legacy - TAC - Evolutions

Posted by Paul | May 15, 2010 at 03:06 PM ET |

The Sith are a very popular bunch of characters in th Star Wars universe. Hasbro showed us great love and release three at once in the Evolutions line. Research Droids Reviews looks at this set and distills the good and bad of it, but don't worry, there's not much bad at all! Click the banner below for the direct link to the review! Really Hasbro? This Is What We're Getting?

Posted by Paul | May 14, 2010 at 03:46 PM ET |

By now you have seen all of the upcoming boxed and carded new stuff coming in August from Hasbro. And while we are thrilled with The Vintage Collection, a lot of other stuff is leaving a lot to be desired. Hasn't Hasbro learned that the cheapskate way of doing things will only hurt the line in the long run? Can the line afford product just to clog and sit on shelves? Some of us here at JTA became a little outraged when we saw the Hoth Assault Battle Packs set because this is NOT what we want for our Star Wars collections. Click through to read our disdain.

Review: Holocron Heist - TCW - Battle Packs

Posted by Paul | May 14, 2010 at 02:15 AM ET |

Ugh, it's another useless Battle Packs set. Come on Hasbro, we are going to harass you until you make good Battle Packs again! Research Droids Reviews gets all huffy about one of the latest Battle Packs sets and aches for the days when Hasbro made some really clever sets (cough, cough, Scramble On Yavin, cough). The Star Wars line is just heading in the wrong direction (again) and for this we are becoming disenchanted. Click the banner below for the direct link to the review! TRU Exclusive Expanded Universe Wave Arriving Heavily!

Posted by Paul | May 13, 2010 at 01:14 PM ET |

We feel for those of you that got the shaft on May 1, 2010 when your local TRU store didn't have the beloved Expanded Universe wave for you. But we would advise that you speak to a manager, find out when their next truck is, and arrive the morning the product goes out because the Legacy Collection (wave 13) is being shipped in high numbers in the Philly area. While your area can vary dramatically, we think it would be worth your while to trek out. The Langhorne, PA TRU got 5 cases of that wave in stock this morning. There is still hope for all! Keep the faith! Click through for the proof of what JTA saw just hours ago in the Langhorne, PA store. And the figures are $4.99 which should motivate you in and of itself!

Review: Jedi Showdown - TCW - Battle Packs

Posted by Paul | May 13, 2010 at 01:05 AM ET |

Hasbro has given us a brief sampling of what is to be expected in the Battle Packs format and as hardcore collectors, we are none too excited. Research Droids Reviews acknowledges that the figures in the Jedi Showdown Battle Packs set are great figures, but did we need them again in a multipack and so soon, especially since most are coming again in the third phase of the basic figure line? Review: Rishi Moon Outpost Attack - Battle Packs

Posted by Paul | May 12, 2010 at 01:10 AM ET |

When the red phase of the Legacy Collection and The Clone Wars came out in the summer of 2009, one of the greatest "army builder" Battle Packs sets was released too, but many initially skipped over it because it looked rather light. Research Droids Reviews checks out this set in detail and discovers how happy we are that we weren't one of those that passed it over as it makes a wonderful addition to our stash. Review: Po Nudo - TAC - 08 07

Posted by Paul | May 11, 2010 at 12:40 AM ET |

It took a long time to get our second Aqualish Star Wars character in action figure form but while it has some good points, it really doesn't look like the charcater onscreen in Episode III. Research Droids Reviews looks at Separatist Po Nudo and wonders if we should have waited a little longer before he was released so Hasbro could have made him a bit better. Research Droids Reviews Under Construction! Update #12

Posted by Paul | May 03, 2010 at 03:19 PM ET |

JTA's Research Droids Reviews are Under Construction! August is a far way off for all the new product and while we will continue to present you with a new review each day, we decided to "spiffy up" some of our older reviews by adding new photo galleries and new edits of the reviews as well as other collector-friendly notes.

We have another The Clone Wars update for you today! This was a favorite wave for many collectors because it included a very cool space suited Obi-Wan Kenobi, a new take on an RA-7 droid and an all-new highly articulated Yoda (sans action features). But perhaps the gem of the wave was the all-new Commando Droid, one of the best action figures to ever come out of Hasbro....period. Be sure to spend some time and check out the hard work we're doing for you behind the scenes. We will be doing periodic updates of our older reviews until we're done, so keep checking back with us. Toys aRen't Us - Fails Many Collectors

Posted by Paul | May 03, 2010 at 08:36 AM ET |

Clearly a gifted writer, we are impressed with how Adam May at Galactic Hunter makes extreme aggravation seem so humorous, but once you get past the initial laughter, he nicely lays out the annoying runaround he experienced like so many other readers at his local TRU stores trying to grab the final wave of the Legacy Collection. If you haven't checked it out, take a minute to scan over his thoughts and recommendations.

Resurgence Of Theft With Resurgence Of The Jedi

Posted by Paul | May 02, 2010 at 11:19 AM ET |

JTA informant and friend Tommy Lee Lemons writes in to let us know of another incident of theft at one of his local TRU stores. Someone replaced the Luke and Obi-Wan with an Early Bird Luke and VOTC Ben (Obi-Wan) Kenobi respectively. Please make sure you report these findings to the store manager when you see this so they can be aware when there are returns being made. Thanks Tommy for the head's up. A New Hope For The Expanded Universe Wave!

Posted by Paul | May 02, 2010 at 11:03 AM ET |

Don't give up hope yet ye heavy laden, those unable to find the Expanded Universe wave at Toys R Us this past weekend. JTA has learned from a Regional Manager at Toys R Us that there are 600 cases of Legacy Collection assortment figures in the Distribution Center that satisfies the areas including Philadelphia and more alone. While we are unable to guarantee if these are more of the EU wave or not, it is a slight sign of comfort that stores may see additional assortments hit the shelves shortly. Don't give up the hunt! While the buy one, get one 50% is now over, the bonus is that basic figures will remain on sale for $4.99 each until July 3, 2010!

Review: Jacen Solo - BD59

Posted by Paul | May 02, 2010 at 07:08 AM ET |

Wonder Twin powers, activate! Jacen Solo, who lives a life similar to his grandfather is not the most exciting action figure, but fans of Darth Caedus should be quite happy. Research Droids Reviews is near finishing up the now hard to find Expanded Universe wave of the Legacy Collection and today we look at Jacen Solo.
