Review: Deliah Blue/Darth Nihl - LC - Comic Packs (16)

Posted by Paul | December 01, 2010 at 01:20 AM ET |

Do you believe it's been almost 1.5 years since we first saw the prototype of Deliah Blue and Darth Nihl and 2009's San Diego Comic Con. Thankfully Entertainment Earth salvaged the last few Comic Packs from the Legacy Collection and they are some of the best Hasbro has made. Research Droids Reviews finds it a grand shame that this line has lost its steam because it was really just getting started before Hasbro called it quits. TARGET Exclusive 9-Pack Disappearing Or Piling Up?

Posted by Paul | November 30, 2010 at 09:46 PM ET |

The TARGET exclusive SPECIAL ACTION FIGURE SET has only been on shelves for a couple of days, but the stock in every TARGET store we have come across since its official release is dangerously low. Could it be true that Hasbro has for once accurately stated that these sets are indeed as limited as they claim? In fact, we have 5 TARGET stores in our area and they only had three or less units left of this set on the endcap (and were slightly damaged too). Whether more are coming is something we don't have any inside information on, but we're curious to know if you are seeing this exclusive pile up or quickly disappear. In any event, we suggest grabbing one even if you're on the fence. You can click HERE to see our detailed look at this very nostalgic set if you're so inclined also.

There Is Another....Variation - Clone Commander Cody

Posted by Paul | November 30, 2010 at 07:08 PM ET |

Thanks to a tip from one of our "Facebook friends", we have provided a picture for you to show evidence of a minor running change on the Clone Commander Cody figure packaging. The "orange" throughout the artwork has been brightened and made crisper and Cody's white armor has been made "whiter". Click through for a larger comparison picture. Thank you JK!

Review: R2-D2 - TVC - VC25

Posted by Paul | November 25, 2010 at 01:25 AM ET |

We're kind of hoping that the TVC See-Threepio and new the TVC R2-D2 are "one-off" sculpts and not the new scale for either droid because Research Droids Reviews is concerned with them looking out of place despite them both being very solid action figures! R2-D2 gets an update from the 2004 Star Wars line but doesn't reflect this on the packaging anywhere! Click the banner below for the direct link to the review! To Punch Or Not To Punch....That Is The Question

Posted by Paul | November 24, 2010 at 09:10 AM ET |

At our local Walmart this morning the toy manager (thank you Rhonda!) held back seven cases of The Vintage Collection for us to rummage through. We opened the sealed cases ourselves and interestingly we discovered that five of the cases were all punched (we're talking about the Return Of The Jedi wave here) when opened while the other two were unpunched. Of special note, all seven cases were wave 4.5 with an "N" stamped on it (and the contents were all the same and it was the case with two Gamorrean Guards in it). We're not sure now if Hasbro is moving towards or away from unpunched card backs. Let us know your discoveries!

Review: Rebel Commando - TVC - VC26

Posted by Paul | November 24, 2010 at 01:15 AM ET |

So Hasbro releases The Vintage Collection Rebel Commando. It's a pretty good figure, but we're not sure if this is the true vintage counterpart. And those Major Panno legs don't seem to like this guy that much. Be sure to find out all you can about this figure by reading today's Research Droids Reviews entry. This one is definitely a departure from the others. Click the banner below for the direct link to the review! Jabba The Hutt Revisited....In Vintage Style!

Posted by Paul | November 23, 2010 at 04:24 PM ET |

JTA reader Rick Alot sends in a picture to share of a mock-up of a vintage Jabba The Hutt using all modern figures. This is so cool and should have been the way Hasbro released it! By the way, Rich informs us that he took the vest from the Battle Of Endor Luke and squeezed it over the new TVC Jedi Luke. It's a tight squeeze but looks amazing when done!Click through because this is a must-see!

ROTJ Wave Of TVC Is Everywhere!

Posted by Paul | November 23, 2010 at 04:19 PM ET |

For goodness sake! The third (Return Of The Jedi) wave of The Vintage Collection is coming out of our ears! Kmart, Walmart and TARGET are basically inundated with this wave. Keep a few things in mind though when purchasing them. Kmart has Buy One Get One FREE until tomorrow, TARGET's figures are $7.99 and we have found some Walmart stores that are selling them for $6.00 each while others have them for $6.96 each and we don't know how long this sale price will last. Thankfully Toys R Us doesn't seem to be getting them, but they would be $9.99 each anyhow! But whatever your preference, be sure to get them because they are phenomenal!

Review: Admiral Ackbar - TVC - VC22

Posted by Paul | November 23, 2010 at 01:05 AM ET |

"Admiral Ackbar, please." (Thank you Hasbro!) "It's a trap!" (For your wallet maybe.) These are phrases that you will probably hear for the rest of your life when talking about Admiral Ackbar, another one of Hasbro's finest moments in the basic figure line. See why Ackbar is suited much better in the action figure line than as a team mascot, because Hasbro has knocked this one out of the park....way out of the park! Fetch Fett For Flagrantly Fantastic Figure Formation!

Alliteration much? We just aren't hearing enough people making a big enough stink about the recently released The Clone Wars Boba Fett figure, so we will. We would be doing a disservice to you by not telling you how incredible it is and how you should go out and buy it stat! If you don't have time to run out and find him, then read all about him HERE in our Research Droids Review. He may just be the the underrated figure of the year! And if you don't like the animated line, well, you can skip over this, but maybe he will inspire you to state your case to Hasbro on how they should attempt the next realistic-styled young Boba Fett. It's all here folks!

We have found one version without a hole and no plug on the lightsaber hilt and then we found another version with a hole drilled in his belt in addition to the hilt having a plug so that it can hang from Luke's waist. Posted by Paul | November 15, 2010 at 06:05 PM ET |

More reports are coming in that the Return Of The Jedi wave is being found all over the country. JTA reader Carlos writes in with a report from FLorida and he also points out what we believe will be a new travesty in collecting these newly unpunched figures. It seems as if Walmart is using some Yankee ingenuity and making holes of their own. Goodness, gracious us. The horror! Click through to see what we mean!

Q&A With JTA: Our Tenth (And Final?) Column!

Posted by Paul | November 14, 2010 at 07:00 PM ET |

We have our final (?) round of Q&A With JTA ready for you! This may indeed be our swan song for the column. After 100 questions answered (including those in tonight's column), we are getting great readership which excites us, but we just aren't getting enough questions on a consistent basis to keep this column going strong. While we won't say we're sticking a fork in it completely, we will indeed leave the ball in your court. If we continue to get questions, we will continue to post this column. But for right now, this is our last "Sunday night at 6 PM" column. Thank you to all that have sent in consistent questions, it means the world to us. Click through to access the Q&A database with our final (?) batch of questions!

Hot Topics: Echo Base transport, is my POTF2 collection worth anything?, a vintage-styled Jawa, a new Emperor's Royal Guard and is Hasbro going to keep bringing us different colored clones utilizing the TVC Clone Trooper sculpt?

TVC Return Of The Jedi Wave Unpunched?!

Posted by Paul | November 14, 2010 at 01:57 PM ET |

JTA spoke briefly with Mike Sullenger from Galactic Hunter and we found out an interesting tidbit about the newest The Vintage Collection figures shipping from Star Wars Shop! (Thanks Mike for giving us permission to share.) All of the new Return Of The Jedi figures come unpunched yet the repacked figures like the Sandtrooper, Clone Trooper and Anakin Skywalker still come punched. Hm. We wonder what Hasbro is doing here. It will be interesting to see what hits retail stores! If you have found them at retail, let us know what your experiences are! Click through to see Galactic Hunter's unpunched ROTJ card backs!

Found! New Battle Packs! (But It's Not Exciting News!)

Posted by Paul | November 14, 2010 at 12:38 PM ET |

While desperately trying to find both the Return of The Jedi wave in The Vintage Collection and the Embo/Shaak Ti wave in The Clone Wars line (no such luck), we bumped into two new Battle Packs at Toys R Us in Philadelphia (Battle Of Orto Plutonia and Invasion Of Utapau). Stick close to JTA as we add them to our Research Droids Reviews shortly where the Research Droids will likely shred them to pieces because they are C-R-A-P! (By the way, they both include a Battle Mat - interesting, huh?)Click through for the proof!

Make Your Voice Heard - The Vintage Collection Poll!

Posted by Paul | November 12, 2010 at 08:28 PM ET |

Our good friends at Rebelscum.com are hosting a neat poll at their site. Originating from a Hasbro Q&A question asked by JTA last session (found HERE) where we asked if Hasbro could include some older (but definitive) figures into The Vintage Collection, Rebelscum.com took it to a whole new and exciting level and is asking for your feedback on this by voting. Please take some time to put in your two cents! This is a great opportunity to prod Hasbro to get some of these "older" (yet awesome) figures entered into the TVC line!

Review: Imperial Stormtrooper - TAC - No. 20

Posted by Paul | November 09, 2010 at 01:35 AM ET |

You probably have figured out by now that we are in total love with the 30 (77-07) line, but Hasbro did kind of ruin one of the figures in the collection. Research Droids Reviews just can't reconcile the 2007 take on the Imperial Stormtrooper. There have been much better versions before and after it, so we're not sure what Hasbro was thinking when they released this one. Click the banner below for the direct link to the review! Review: Jawa & LIN Droid - TAC - No. 19

Posted by Paul | November 08, 2010 at 01:20 AM ET |

Oh how we love two-packs in the basic figure line! As part of the incredibly wonderful 30 (77-07) line, Hasbro gave collectors an all-new Jawa sculpt as well as an accompanying never-before-made LIN droid. Research Droids Reviews finds little fault in this duo and raves about what good they indeed bring to collectors. Click the banner below for the direct link to the review! Review: Biggs Darklighter - TAC - No. 17

Posted by Paul | November 07, 2010 at 02:55 AM ET |

Hasbro made us wait a long time for the deleted scene version of Biggs Darklighter. It's sweet to have him as an action figure, but Hasbro certainly didn't go all out to make him as best as he could have been. The 30 (77-07) line gave collectors one gift after another but Research Droids Reviews points out that this one was a mild disappointment. Click the banner below for the direct link to the review! Posted by Paul | November 06, 2010 at 12:20 AM ET |

The Vintage Collection For $6.00 Each At Walmart!

There is a great (great meaning good) disturbance in the Force. TVC figures are cheaper than Saga Legends and The Clone Wars figures! Review: Elis Helrot - TAC - No. 23

Posted by Paul | November 04, 2010 at 12:15 AM ET |

Did you know that Ralph McQuarrie was responsible for coming up with quite a few creature concepts to round out the Cantina sequence in Star Wars? It's true and Elis Helrot was one concept of his that basically made it to the film essentially unaltered or changed by George Lucas. Research Droids Reviews contemplates how much he resembles a famous horror movie villain, but Elis Helrot is an original vision of McQuarrie himself first.
