The Astromech Collection - Only We Can Make It Happen!

Posted by Paul | September 28, 2013 at 01:17 PM ET |

So, as a community we definitely do a lot of grumbling about what Hasbro has been doing (or more accurately not been doing) with the collector-focused part of the toy line. While there is always room for improvement, cost has stopped Hasbro in their tracks in many instances, to the point that they just can't bring us the volume of things they did in the past. This in turn makes it rare for us to find something that interests us. We then become slowly disengaged. Less stuff makes some collectors happy, but for others it only makes us pine for more, or simply lose interest in the hobby. 2012 was one of the worst years for collectors, but Hasbro brought us one of the greatest multipacks of all time: the Royal Starship Droids Battle Packs set from the Discover The Force line. It sold out very quickly and people are still trying to acquire it for their collections. It got us thinking. (more....)

Posted by Paul | September 28, 2013 at 08:01 AM ET |

The Episode I version of Ki-Adi-Mundi was so good that Hasbro reused most of it for Ki-Adi-Mundi (Jedi Master) in the Star Wars "Saga" line. Time Capsule: Look Where We Were Only A Short Year Ago

Posted by Paul | September 26, 2013 at 01:35 PM ET |

Exactly one year ago TODAY (where in the world does the time go), Jedi Temple Archives provided you with an advanced first look at the final wave of The Vintage Collection via our Research Droids Reviews and Visual Guides. It's unbelievable the trail the line has taken in one short year; most of which has been for the worse and not better sadly. We hope that we learn some new and exciting things at the Hasbro Preview Party so that we all can experience again what the line at its greatness brought us. It may not return as magnificent as it once was, but we're hopeful that whatever is announced will incite collectors to be zealous for the line again. Click any of the links above to refresh your memory of when times were significantly better. And who knows, maybe we'll have another advanced look surprise in the future. Only time will tell.

Posted by Paul | September 25, 2013 at 05:58 AM ET |

If there was a paint job that Hasbro nailed in the Star Wars "Saga" line, it was the one they gave Shaak Ti (Jedi Master). Essentially a statue, she looks great no matter how you slice it. Post Your Questions To Hasbro And We Will Ask Them At NYCC!!

Posted by Paul | September 24, 2013 at 11:01 AM ET |

We’re lucky if we even get a single opportunity per year to ask Hasbro the many burning questions collectors have about the Star Wars toy line anymore. But we may just have a good opportunity just around the corner at the NYCC Preview Party. Jedi Temple Archives will be in attendance and we will have our notepads and pencils at the ready addressing your questions. Please leave your questions in our comments in this article. But please keep in mind some important rules that will streamline the process for us, and ultimately give our readers the best coverage possible.

Please do not comment on someone else’s questions. If you do, we will have to delete any responses made to a question. Please show your support for the question with the up and down arrows only. “Up arrow” means you like the question. “Down arrow” means you don’t like it. Simple.

Please do not ask if Figure X is getting made. Those questions would be endless and eat up all of our time with Hasbro and they will not confirm or deny anything anyway. I will figure out how to cleverly elicit some figure details in a roundabout way. Please remain as sarcasm and nasty free as possible. We want to make head way with them, not kick them when they're down.

I will also be asking the following questions, so please don’t post these “again” in our comments: (more…)

Review: Kit Fisto (Jedi Master) - SW [S - P1] - '02 #05

Posted by Paul | September 24, 2013 at 08:47 AM ET |

If a collector doesn't notice an action feature on an action figure, does the action feature therefore even exist? Well, that may be preposterous logic, but we bet many of you out there aren't even aware that Kit Fisto (Jedi Master) does indeed have an action feature. It's so subtle that it's almost acceptable. Between a great sculpt and good deco, find out why this action figure isn't half as bad as you may have preconceived in our Research Droids Reviews today. Feel free to leave your own thoughts in our comments section, vote in the poll or even leave comments about it on our Facebook page. Click the banner below for the direct link to the review! Hasbro Makes No Public Statement, Collectors Resolve Their Own Issues

Posted by Paul | September 24, 2013 at 08:33 AM ET |

LOL! Out of desperation, retail and/or Star Wars collectors are now resorting to Yankee ingenuity to resolve the debacle of the separating card back. Look what JTA reader Brian P. has discovered at his local Walmart which ended up making the situation worse. (Does anyone else find it completely unacceptable that Hasbro has not made a public statement about this issue yet?) Click through for more.

Review: Tusken Raider (Tatooine Camp Ambush) - SW [S - P2] - '03 #06

Posted by Paul | September 23, 2013 at 06:07 AM ET |

The Tusken Raider (Tatooine Camp Ambush) figure is a good example of a great sculpt with pitiful articulation. His coloring is off a bit too, but his "action feature" is screen accurate. Kmart Marks Down Remaining TVC And It Affects TBS

Posted by Paul | September 22, 2013 at 08:15 AM ET |

JTA reader Damian V. alerts us that Kmart, if they have any left, are marking down remaining TVC figures for $7.54 each. But you can probably already imagine how this affects The Black Series: they also have come down to that sale price as well. Damian writes "Kmart has [TVC] on sale for $7.54 and The Black Series rings up at the same price!!" (There is always a major problem every year anymore when it comes to the collector-focused basic figure line. It's so frustrating. How can retail see a new basic figure line as the previous. It's common sense to give it a new SKU, isn't it?) Let us know what your local store is doing too in our comments!

If you have missed JTA's presentations of the three classic vehicles that were just released, then be sure to catch up now learning about them in our Research Droids Reviews where we look at each vehicle in great detail. Jedi Force Gets A Bigger Scale Too?

Posted by Paul | September 15, 2013 at 09:28 PM ET |

Look Ma! It's the "6-inch" scale in the Jedi Force line! I apparently have been asleep at the wheel when it comes to kid-focused Star Wars products because I didn't know these were coming, but did anyone else completely miss the "larger scale" Jedi Force line?! So, is "larger scale" for collectors or not? Or is this just another attempt at cross-pollination? Click through to see!

Review: TIE Interceptor (Vehicle) - TVC - Amazon.com Exclusive

Posted by Paul | September 14, 2013 at 06:09 AM ET |

It's another The Vintage Collection release! We look at the Amazon.com exclusive TIE Interceptor (Vehicle) and see how it differs from its ancestor, the Legacy Collection TIE Interceptor. You will also discover our preoccupation with why Hasbro defaulted to use the 2004-2007 era Return Of The Jedi logo font that was inaccurate (and subsequently corrected on TVC basic figures) for the box art. See all this and more in our Research Droids Reviews today. Feel free to leave your own thoughts in our comments section, vote in the poll or even leave comments about it on our Facebook page. Not Exactly A Repeat Situation, But Deflating Nonetheless

Posted by Paul | September 13, 2013 at 05:32 PM ET |

Ugh, while nowhere near as bad as the Slave I debacle, I can personally report that Amazon.com's shipping agents tore through the case of my TIE Interceptors with a dull razor blade. I ordered two and both have been gutted like a fish. If you have ordered yours, what condition did it arrive? Click through to see my situation.

He's like Aayla Secura, but corpulent and male, so he really isn't like Aayla Secura at all. Admittedly he is a boring action figure, but he's been done very well. The Coleman Trebor (Battle Of Geonosis) figure from the Star Wars "Saga" line may be one of the best from that era. Posted by Paul | September 07, 2013 at 07:15 AM ET |

Well, this is a breath of fresh news reporting! The second wave of The Black Series 3.75" is now arriving in Hong Kong, China! This means that the USA is "not too far" from seeing these action figures grace our own shelves (and perhaps more expediently at online retail). By the way, I was criticized for having the attitude of disbelief that I had, but unless I am blind, they didn't bother correcting the 41st Elite Corps Clone Trooper's color flashes. Then again, plans could still be in motion to indeed do the corrected running change. I guess it will be a waiting game. Click through for the report

If This Is A Hot Toy Then I Am A Monkey's Uncle

Posted by Paul | September 06, 2013 at 09:30 PM ET |

You know something? There is almost no reason to toy hunt any longer. Do you know how hard that statement grips my heart? I fear the days are long gone of confidently knowing that you could visit any Walmart, Toys R Us or TARGET and come home with a bag full of goodies. Now we just pray that stuff geared for us will fit on the shelves with other product clogging the shelves that is clearly not for us or walk into a toy aisle and see nothing at all (except rotting TPM figures). What stuck in my craw today was the featured promotion a certain electronic shampoo bottle is getting. Now before you argue with me that these are for kids and Star Wars in general is for kids, let me ask you when was the last time your walked away happy from any of the stores we patronized the last (almost) 20 years? There is a chance that you probably don't know that Djas Puhr (Alien Bounty Hunter) is quite inaccurate to his onscreen counterpart, but you also may not care because he still looks great despite the errors. Our friends at StarWarsFiguren.com reveal the rest of the the carded Mission Series wave 2. But I have to publicly acknowledge what an attention-detailed genius my good friend Jayson Krebsbach from Yakface.com is. Posted by Paul | September 04, 2013 at 07:49 AM ET |

Don't you just hate it when Hasbro takes a few steps forward but then falls backwards even more? The 2003 Star Wars "Saga" Darth Tyranus (Geonosian Escape) figure had the potential to be excellent, but he was relegated to Collection 1 status which means his good sculpt was made inferior with action features. And why did Hasbro call him "Darth Tyranus" here? See what we mean in our Research Droids Reviews today. Review: Captain Antilles (Tantive IV Invasion) - SW [S - P3] - '04 #15

Posted by Paul | September 03, 2013 at 05:42 AM ET |

There is something to be said about a sculpt that continually fights against the test of time. Captain Antilles (Tantive IV Invasion) may eventually lose that battle as he isn't without its own share of flaws, but he still looks pretty good even today. Find out more in our Research Droids Reviews today. Feel free to leave your own thoughts in our comments section, vote in the poll or even leave comments about it on our Facebook page. Review: X-wing Fighter - TVC - Toys R Us Exclusive

Posted by Paul | September 02, 2013 at 12:02 AM ET |

Well, we were pleasantly surprised twice recently. First, we found The Vintage Collection X-wing Fighter at our local Toys R Us. Second, we couldn't believe how beautifully done the X-wing Fighter vehicle is. It's literally one of the greatest vehicles yet released as an exclusive in The Vintage Collection. Oh, and it's the first time we have received Biggs Darklighter's vehicle. See this nearly flawless vehicle in our Research Droids Reviews today. Feel free to leave your own thoughts in our comments section, vote in the poll or even leave comments about it on our Facebook page. Click the banner below for the direct link to the review! As always, you can also send your own personal review requests via email if you'd like to see something that we didn't cover yet.

Keeping in mind that Barriss Offee (Luminara Unduli's Padawan) is inspired more by her appearance in Tartakovsky's Clone Wars and not Attack Of The Clones, this action figure is pretty cool. But if you're looking for an accurate Episode II version, this one is actually pretty far off. And some people just can't get over her portrait. See what you think in our Research Droids Reviews today. Feel free to leave your own thoughts in our comments section, vote in the poll or even leave comments about it on our Facebook page. Click the banner below for the direct link to the review! As always, you can also send your own personal review requests via email if you'd like to see something that we didn't cover yet.
