We're coming across more and more examples of how retailers are responding to the case assortment of wave 1 of The Black Series [Star Wars 40] line. Retailers like Toy Wiz are knocking as much as $30 off the MSRP just to take the three "overpacked" figures in the case assortment. How come fans and retailers know what a good case assortment is, yet after all of these years, Hasbro does not?

On a more positive note, we did learn today from our friends at Star Wars Figuren that the wave 2 case assortment looks like THIS:

1x Sand People
2x Death Squad Commander
2x Jawa
1x C-3PO
1x Chewbacca
1x Stormtrooper

eBay Prices Go Rogue For New Rogue One Products

Posted by Paul | February 27, 2017 at 01:30 PM ET |

It amazes me to this day at what some people will pay for Star Wars figures (especially 5POA) just to get them early... or just at all. Look at how many figures have sold at these prices. Perhaps if we had a clearer indication of these figures' availability, perhaps people would hold off on th eimpulses a little longer..... Check out the craziness.....

Fox Business is reporting that Hasbro, in a rare move (and for the first time in years), will be bringing Play-Doh manufacturing back to the USA. Is this possibly any indication that we'll see the production of Star Wars figures in the USA too? (This is something Hasbro declined to elaborate on – other brands – per the article.) "Although the preschool clay was invented in Cincinnati in the 1950s, it hasn't been made in the U.S. since 2004." Click through for more.

Sneak Peek! Rogue One Wave 4 Figures

Posted by Paul | February 25, 2017 at 08:00 PM ET |

Reviews are coming very shortly, but we've added the fourth wave of Rogue One figures to our Research Droids Reviews database. You can see Collector Notes and Photo Galleries now. The fate of these figures is still up in the air depending upon who you ask. But based on the current state of retail, we don't foresee widespread availability at brick and mortar. (Our opinion – for now.) It will be interesting to see what transpires.

This little guy is slightly out of scale with the six inch line which has garnered a lot of complaints, but he's also the most sought after of the first five due to his previous availability (even over the newly sculpted Leia—which you can still pre-order on Amazon, but R2 is long gone). We are already seeing proof of this by what figures are selling out first on Hasbro Toy Shop and Amazon among many other sellers. Click through for the rant. We edited it for content. Full transcipt can be found HERE. It, at the very least, is a curious opinion of what small "mom and pop" shops can possibly experience with poor case assortments.

So if you're worried about getting Darth Vader from the Early Bird kit, don't worry about it if you're passing on it.

No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: Early Availability Always Means Scalping

Posted by Paul | February 19, 2017 at 07:16 PM ET |

Sigh. Look at this madness on eBay. In my opinion, Hasbro should have taken pre-orders for these to make sure that everyone who wanted a set ordered a set. These are coming to etailers and stores soon, but it would have bene nice for everyone who wanted an early set to grab them without scalper influence.

The Black Series 6" 40th Anniversary Carded Figures To Come Punched

Posted by Chuck | February 18, 2017 at 05:19 PM ET |

The 40th Anniversary 6-Inch figures will not come 'unpunched'. All Vintage-style carded figures are going to be pre-punched. This was confirmed by Hasbro's Joe Ninivaggi during our Q&A.

Update: There seems to be some confusion in our comments. These figures will not have a perferated punch in them for someone to 'punch' out. They will likely be factory punched. So, there will be no versions available that have a punch in them. We'll know for sure when we get our first orders (if it's die cut or actually punched).

French Title Reveal Of Episode VIII Confirms "Jedi" Is Plural

Posted by Paul | February 17, 2017 at 08:51 AM ET |

JTA reader Vincent M. alerts us to the French reveal of The Last Jedi movie title and it confirms that Jedi is indeed plural in this instance. Whether this is a misprint (possible but unlikely) or not remains to be seen, but at least it is plausible to believe that it refers to more than one Jedi now.The Independent has more infomation on this. This additional development can be found HERE,

UPDATE: The title of this film has been released in MANY languages today and all have Jedi as plural.

For The Black Series 6" Collectors Only: Only Your Opinions Here

Posted by Paul | February 16, 2017 at 08:08 AM ET |

Now that 3.75" super-articulated fans have gotten out their frustrations, we wanted to provide a safe space (that is NOT sarcasm) for The Black Series 6" collectors to voice their opinions on the recently revealed "TBS6 TVC" Luke Skywalker: X-wing Fighter Pilot figure that appeared on the Star Wars Show. You won't be attacked and you won't be criticized at all. This is YOUR show. Some talking points we'd encourage are the following: Are you excited for mostly the same figures to be repackaged on a vintage Kenner inspired card back? Doe the vintage Kenner packaging resonate with you as a newbie collector? Do you even care what packaging looks like for these figures? Do you really think six inches warrants a $20 MSRP? It would be ideal if 3.75" fans don't jump into this discussion right away to adulterate the conversation. Honestly, let us know how this reveal sits with you as a 6" collector.

Big Bad Toy Store

The cat is out of the bag thanks to the Star Wars Show. Vintage Kenner inspired The Black Series 6" figures will be coming on cards to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Star Wars (well, at least Luke Skywalker (X-wing Pilot) for now). If you read any of the comments when this news began to break, Hasbro may be in an interesting predicament. 3.75" collectors aren't interested and from what we've tallied so far, 6" collectors have no interest in buying the same figures repackaged in this vintage Kenner packaging (something that 3.75" SA collectors would have purchased tenfold). It's going to be an interesting 40th anniversary celebration. Hopefully it will all work out for the best.

There Is Another.... 40th Anniversary In 2017

Posted by Paul | February 14, 2017 at 10:56 AM ET |

There is another outer space related big 40th anniversary to celebrate in 2017. 40 years ago on February 14, 1977, the B-52s played their very first concert at a friend's house in Athens GA. They proved so popular that they played their entire set list again as an encore. After hearing Rock Lobster in 1979, John Lennon (yes, that John Lennon) was inspired to go back into the studio and record and remained a fan until his tragic death. Best known for the late 80s/early 90s hits Love Shack and Roam, the B-52s encouraged individuality and to bravely let your freak flag fly. They continue to maintain a hybrid of dedicated fans four decades after their inception. Thank you for the happiness, joy and music you brought to Earth from that UFO!

Posted by Paul | February 11, 2017 at 05:09 PM ET |

It's official. Back around Thanksgiving, we leaked a rumor that we'd see a return of Build A Droid/Droid Factory figures early in 2017. This was then visually confirmed by some new astromech droid images surfacing on the web and presented to the Star Wars collecting community via Yakface.com. Now we have a further development on this rumor. These droids have names (R5-S9, R5-P8, R5-U8 amd R2-C2) and will come in the standard four-pack as we have received The Force Awakens and Rogue One astromech droids. Special thanks to our source for sending us this image.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars Is Leaving Netflix?

Posted by Mike_Taber | February 09, 2017 at 06:04 PM ET |

Bad news, everyone. Star Wars: The Clone Wars is set to leave Netflix on March 7th. It is currently listed as "Available Until 03/07/2017" on Netflix. Interestingly, the Clone Wars theatrical release is not set to expire and season six of The Clone Wars was originally a Netflix exclusive. Netflix occasionally posts the expiration date even though a new contract is already in place, but I wouldn't count on that being the case. JTA has been reviewing past seasons of The Clone Wars in chronological order and you can find all of those reviews right here.

Han Solo Film Casting Update

Posted by Mike_Taber | February 09, 2017 at 05:59 PM ET |

Variety is reporting that Pheobe Waller-Bridge, star of the critically acclaimed Amazon series Fleabag, is up for a key role in the Han Solo. Talks are reportedly still ongoing. Waller-Bridge's role would be CGI based and her character would fill a role similar to K2-SO or Chewbacca. Which is interesting because Chewbacca himself will have a major role in the film. If she gets the part, Waller-Bridge would join Alden Ehrenreich, Donald Glover, Woody Harrelson, and Emilia Clarke. Director Chris Miller announced on January 30th that filming has begun.

Hasbro: No Longer Reporting Revenue By Boys/Girls And Other Categories

Posted by Paul | February 09, 2017 at 01:10 PM ET |

Hasbro has decided to longer utilize the boy and girl descriptors for investor purposes. We wonder if this will transfer down further into the retail level. They say "Beginning with the first quarter, we will no longer report revenue along the Boys, Games, Girls and Preschool categories. Instead, we will provide a revenue breakdown of Franchise Brands, Partner Brands, Hasbro Gaming and Emerging Brands. We believe this is a more relevant and appropriate view of our business." More information and opinions on this can be found at The Mary Sue.

TBS Titanium Statuettes: This Is What The Line Has Boiled Down To?

Posted by Paul | February 09, 2017 at 12:50 PM ET |

Look closely at this image (it will enlarge when you click on it) as well as another bigger image in the comments. These figures just don't look good Hasbro. Your original Titanium Figures looked incredibly better than this. Either way, can someone please explain to me why we're getting this line to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Star Wars when all we want are the last couple of vintage figures needing modern counterparts? Or maybe a re-release of the original 12 in super-articulated glory? (Oh yeah, you're doing that in 6" supposedly.) And what about a few updates to figures like 2-1B, Yak Face, Squid Head, Bib Fortuna (and SO MANY more), etc.? Are we living in an alternate universe? Is this the Twilight Zone?

Review: Shock Trooper - TLC - Saga Legends (SL 17)

Posted by Paul | February 07, 2017 at 12:50 AM ET |

The 2007 The Legacy Collection Saga Legends line wasn't nearly as exciting as the 2007 TAC collection, but there were still some great figures released in the line regardless. Take for instance the Shock Trooper. See why it's easy to love this figure over and over again despite its multiple re-releases in our  Research Droids Reviews today. Be sure to leave your own thoughts in our comments section, vote in the poll or even leave comments about it on our Facebook page. Review: General Grievous - TCW [R] - CW01

Posted by Paul | February 06, 2017 at 12:35 AM ET |

The Clone Wars General Grievous figure was re-released as the very first figure in the red line look. It's not a great figure, but he was a main character in the show, so Hasbro had to get him out again fast. See why this figure just doesn't hold up in our  Research Droids Reviews today. Be sure to leave your own thoughts in our comments section, vote in the poll or even leave comments about it on our Facebook page. UPDATE: Admiral Raddus Wave Shipping February 8th At Robot Kingdom

Posted by Paul | February 03, 2017 at 09:37 AM ET |

It appears as if some of the Admiral Raddus wave escaped production, or perhaps this case assortment is still available as an "international exclusive" (PLEASE DON'T TAKE THAT LITERALLY). Robot Kingdom has them available for pre-order with a shipping date of February 8th. This full case assortment is not expected to arrive in the USA (although solid case packs of some WILL be) from what our sources are claiming. Order it if you're concerned about not getting a couple of these figures.

UPDATE: Fenn Rau confirmed to be coming in some way to the USA. So there is no need to worry about this case now.

Will The 40th Anniversary Of Star Wars Even Come Close To The 30th?

Posted by Paul | February 01, 2017 at 09:38 AM ET |

Let us provide you with some perspective. 2007 was an INCREDIBLE year for collectors. Hasbro began the 30th anniversary celebration of Star Wars early and by Thanksgiving 2006, as the incredible The Saga Collection line was winding down, Hasbro got out an assortment of mid size vehicles and six Commemorative Tin Collection sets (one for each episode of Star Wars at the time) in preparation for what would be one of the most collector-focused lines of all time. This line was launching officially a few short months away in March. March arrived and by the first quarter of 2008 (the celebration went over thank goodness) we were blessed with 75 basic figures (as well as whole bunch of chase variants), more exclusives than we can count, a stunning four dozen plus “greatest hits” Saga Legends line (where collectors chose their favorites and Hasbro actually added them into the line), a two-dozen collection of midsize vehicles, a dozen Order 66 exclusives, Comic Packs, Evolutions, Battle Packs, Ultimate Battle Packs, miscellaneous other multipacks…. The list goes on and on and on and on….

So we ask you now. What do you think the 40th anniversary celebration of Star Wars will look like from a Hasbro toy perspective? Are there more surprises than what we’d ever expect coming? Will the 40th anniversary pale in comparison to the 30th anniversary? Will it be significantly better? Will Hasbro be able to rope back in the multitudes of collectors they lost thanks to the sacrifices taken with the 3.75” super-articulated line? Will store exclusives ever wow us again? Will the focus be on vintage Kenner inspired packaging? And do you think Hasbro will take advantage of this very small window of time (spring and summer 2017) to focus on the stuff that matters before Episode VIII merchandising takes front and center? Will we ever see the magnificence of the 30 (77-07) ever again? Let us know your thoughts!
