The Deleted Scenes Wave + Darth Maul For A Song And A Dance

Posted by Paul | February 28, 2013 at 05:52 PM ET |

If you listen to only one thing I say this year, listen to this. I just scored the Deleted Scenes wave plus Darth Maul for $24.24 (which in my case includes local PA state tax). This means that I paid a pitiful $4.04 for each figure (tax included). Call you local TRU. Find out when the trucks are arriving. And call first thing that morning and ask them if anything has arrived that suits your liking. That's what I did. Click through to see my beautiful score. Remember, this Buy One for $4.99, get a second for $2.50 only lasts through March 16.

JTA reader Anthony D. directed our attention to a very interesting petition site to save The Clone Wars. We weren't aware of many of the details posted here. They certainly have done their homework. Click through for some details about what this petition is about and see if you want to help make a difference!

Posted by Paul | February 25, 2013 at 09:15 AM ET |

In December of 2012, Kotobukiya sent out a gift to its retail partners and select media outlets to celebrate their brilliant 60 years of service. Even though Star Wars hasn't been around for 60 years (yet), they chose R2-D2 to be the icon of their excellence. Review: Stormtrooper - OTC - OTC #16

Posted by Paul | February 24, 2013 at 12:07 AM ET |

The 1999 POTF2 Comm Tech Stormtrooper was the start of collector-focused Stormtrooper action figures. It was revised and released a couple of times after the POFT2 release. But it wasn't until 2004's OTC #16 release that the Stormtrooper looked its best, and that was all thanks to its packaging. Read our commentary of it in our Research Droids Reviews today. The Ten Newly Shown TESB Jumbo Vintage Kenner Figures Up Close!

Posted by Paul | February 23, 2013 at 06:25 PM ET |

Some of you wanted to see up close shots of the new Gentle Giant Ltd. Jumbo Vintage Kenner figures. So we have taken close-ups for you and have blown them up for you as big as we could before they became too distorted. If this isn't a reason for renewed interest in this line, we're not sure what is. All ten new releases are from The Empire Strikes Back. This gives us great expectations to see Return Of The Jedi figures next. Imagine 12 inch Luke Skywalker (Jedi Knight Outfit), Princess Leia (Boushh Disguise) and Lando Calrissian (Skiff Guard Disguise). And this may be a fantasy, but could you imagine a Jumbo Vintage Jabba's Playset? We will freak if that is in their plans! These figures are awesome! Review: Gamorrean Guard - Jumbo Vintage Kenner (2012 PGM Exclusive)

Posted by Paul | February 23, 2013 at 12:03 AM ET |

After a collector-forsaken Hasbro presentation at Toy Fair (OK, that's a bit harsh), it's nice to know that Gentle Giant Ltd. still knows how cater to and is adamant about engaging collectors. See the astounding Jumbo Vintage Kenner Gamorrean Guard with a Special Collector's Coin that is heavy enough to kill somebody should you be so inclined (please don't be inclined). It's also the first Jumbo Vintage Kenner Figure to be released in the classic The Power Of The Force packaging from 1985, something else that Hasbro has chosen to completely ignore. (OK, enough with the Hasbro digs. This is all about Gentle Giant right now.) It's the focus of our Research Droids Reviews today. Feel free to leave your own thoughts in our comments section, vote in the poll or even leave comments about it on our Facebook page. Click the banner below for the direct link to the review! Max Rebo: Less Than Meets The Eye?

Posted by Paul | February 22, 2013 at 01:38 PM ET |

With special thanks to our friends at JediDefender.com for leading us to this article, StarWars.com has a fascinating article on Max Rebo and explains that Kenner/Hasbro got the design of this character totally wrong. This one is a worthy read - trust us! Make Your TVC Figures Look Perfect! Repro Soft-Goods Save The Day!

Posted by Paul | February 17, 2013 at 08:52 PM ET |

We all are perplexed why Hasbro was unsuccessful with soft-goods during The Vintage Collection. They just couldn't seem to get a more tailored look on the soft-goods that they chose for their action figures, yet they seemingly had no difficulty in the original vintage Kenner lineup. Big, bulky and often obtrusive is how the modern soft-goods on figures like Luke Skywalker (Lightsaber Construction) and Emperor's Royal Guard turned out and quite honestly left a lot to be desired. Thankfully there are expert customizers that do provide tailored soft-goods for these excellently sculpted action figures to remedy this situation. With great thanks to JTA reader Josh M., we have been given two samples of custom soft-goods that do wonders for Hasbro's otherwise excellent action figures. Click through to see new and improved versions of two figures from The Vintage Collection thanks to these more fitted soft-goods. There are also links to eBay where you can get these for yourself.

UPDATE: This auction has ended and the links won't work right now. We will update eBay links once they get re-listed. Sorry for the interruption.

Review: Holographic Princess Leia - OTC - 2005 SDCC Exclusive

Posted by Paul | February 15, 2013 at 09:16 AM ET |

What a piece of translucent purple plastic! And what an outrageous MSRP! The Holographic Princess Leia figure (which ended up being a 2005 SDCC exclusive no less) was one collectors wanted for a while, but just not like this. The biggest head scratcher? Why didn't they use the 2000 POTF2 [Comm Tech] Princess Leia (with sporting blaster) figure instead. At least that one had her hood up! See the perplexion in our Research Droids Reviews today. Review: Sandtrooper - OTC - '05 #12 [One Of The Rarest Figures Ever]

Posted by Paul | February 14, 2013 at 05:47 AM ET |

The rarest figure of 2005 was the POTC Sandtrooper (and it remains one of the rarest figures of all time). What a shame this is because the packagaing is gorgeous, even if you weren't crazy about getting another old sculpt. If you're a "one of everything" collector however, you need to know that this figure has a unique paint job when compared to the original 2001 POTJ release, even if it is the same exact mold. See all of these facts and more clearly itemized for you in our Research Droids Reviews today. Feel free to leave your own thoughts in our comments section, vote in the poll or even leave comments about it on our Facebook page. Click the banner below for the direct link to the review! 30 (77-07) Redux - Wave 11 (2008 Wave 2)

Posted by Chuck | February 13, 2013 at 09:57 PM ET |

We have always felt that the 30 (77-07) is one of the greatest collections of figures Hasbro has done to date. While not all of them were made in the expected super-articulated fashion that’s become standard today, many of the figures brought into the line are nonetheless done so well from the start that they will likely never see an update again. We will be releasing updates to this very cherished line wave by wave. We have updated our Visual Guides and we’ve processed all-new expanded galleries and a new “stats box” that mimics the card backs of the figures in the line in our Research Droids Reviews. We've reached the final wave from one of the best lines Hasbro has produced: The delayed The Force Unleased wave. Fans of the game will enjoy these 7 figures, almost all completely new sculpts! More Information Surfaces About Jakks Pacific Darth Vader!

Posted by Paul | February 12, 2013 at 01:35 PM ET |

We brought you the BREAKING NEWS first weeks ago, and now our friends at MintInBox.net have a bit more information on the upcoming 31" tall Jumbo Darth Vader figure. It looks like it will come with a generous 7 points of articulation, more than the new Hasbro basic figures! You'll need a translator, but click through to check out their report!

UPDATE: USAToday.com has the article and information in English for you! Special thanks to JTA Facebook friend and reader Dan C. for the link!

I found one other bit of interesting news in my Toy Fair notes that I managed to keep away from prying ears and eyes while talking with Hasbro. It isn't a "huge" deal, but it may be of interest to fans of The Vintage Collection. Click through for hopefully the last straggling piece of data from Toy Fair that's Hasbro related. The Vintage Collection Wave 13 Remix Case Hitting Walmart Very Hard!

Toy Fair 2013 - Tamashii Booth

Posted by Paul | February 11, 2013 at 08:02 PM ET |

The Tamashii company has released what may be the best C-3PO figure on the market to date. Before you scoff at the $400 price tag, let us tell you that we held this piece in our hands and were astounded with the scale, likeness and quality of the piece. Not only is C-3PO cast from real metal and heavy in weight, he also comes with light-up eyes, real abdomen wiring and functioning arm pistons and other gears. It's probably the most amazing C-3PO 12" scaled high-end figure to date. It's equivalent to the quality of the life-size figure from Sideshow Collectibles, but smaller and a fraction of the price. Do yourself a favor and check C-3PO out from head to toe!

Posted by Paul | February 06, 2013 at 05:21 AM ET |

Review: Spirit Obi-Wan - OTC - OTC #03

Posted by Paul | February 04, 2013 at 06:16 AM ET |

Hasbro changed the way they made "spirit" action figures with Spirit Obi-Wan from The Original Trilogy Collection (and took cues from a holographic Luke Skywalker figure earlier in the year for this new approach). Learn about the great likeness of this character in our Research Droids Reviews today. Return Of The Jedi Review In 1983 - This Is A Must Watch!

Posted by Paul | February 01, 2013 at 09:19 AM ET |

Hindsight is always 20/20, but even in back in 1983, Star Wars fans would be abhorred to hear comments like "ghastly dialogue, terrible plotting, miserable characterization” and “all those special effects begin to look totally unreal" to describe a Star Wars film, let alone the groundbreaking Return Of The Jedi film. We normally don't clutter our front page with YouTube videos or the like, but we're making an exception here because this is worthwhile. You must listen to this seven minute interview with John Simon versus Siskel & Ebert in a banter that is jaw-droppingly unbelievable as much as it is humourous. We actually feel sorry for Mr. Simon as he's missed the enjoyment of these truly special films. Special thanks to JTA reader John McCartney for sending us the link!

Review: Wedge Antilles - OTC - Internet Exclusive

Posted by Paul | February 01, 2013 at 08:40 AM ET |

Wedge Antilles just didn't get any love from Hasbro until 10 years into the license. See a fine attempt at this character. Better versions now exist, but most colectors in 2005 were excited for this one. It's all in our Research Droids Reviews today. Feel free to leave your own thoughts in our comments section, vote in the poll or even leave comments about it on our Facebook page. Click the banner below for the direct link to the review! As always, you can also send your own personal review requests via email if you'd like to see something that we didn't cover yet.
