Review: Cloud City Wing Guard [Utris M'Toc] - BD50

Posted by Paul | April 30, 2010 at 12:25 AM ET |

Hasbro has been having great difficulty getting running change variants out to collectors. Despite many successful years of little to no issues of releasing variants, the line has been plagued ever since 2008 with very little luck getting them out. Research Droids Reviews looks at one running change that did make it out, thank the maker and it fit in very well with the final Expanded Universe wave in the Legacy Collection. Walmart Exclusives Strike Back?

Posted by Paul | April 25, 2010 at 10:46 AM ET |

To our complete surprise today in a Philadelphia Walmart, we found all of the 2009 fall exclusives back on the shelves and at full price no less (except for the Evolutions, they were $9.00 each). Maybe Walmart is unaware of all the ROSS deals going on with their products, but we couldn't believe they are giving these things a second chance. Were they hidden in the back rooms or are they getting more product shipped? (Not pictured: we also found plenty of Dewbacks and Octuptarra Droids as well.) Click through for the proof.

Found! Comic Packs Sigel Dare Big Variation/Update!

Posted by Paul | April 23, 2010 at 06:11 PM ET |

There is a lot of action happening in the Hasbro toy line right now especially since this should be a long lull where we shouldn't expect anything brand new until August this year when the new lines hit. But we found a new variation on the Darth Krayt/Sigel Dare Comic Packs set. Hasbro must have taken a cue from all of the paint job complaints from collectors and have stepped up to the plate. Shipping in the latets Comic Packs assortment is a stunningly wonderful new face paint job for the beautiful Sigel Dare action figure. Click through to see the shocking improvement! It almost makes us want to return our first version that we got way back in August 2009. We will be updating our current Research Droids Review on this Comic Packs set shortly so be sure to check back to check it out!

Posted by Paul | April 22, 2010 at 12:40 AM ET |

Mandalorians sure have gotten a great deal of attention the last few years. JTA's Research Droids Reviews are Under Construction! August is a far way off for all the new product and while we will continue to present you with a new review each day, we decided to "spiffy up" some of our older reviews by adding new photo galleries and new edits of the reviews as well as other collector-friendly notes.

Be sure to check out the new gallery of the Clone Tank Gunner (CW36) which showcases side by side comparisons of both variations. Also look for updates to the Padme Amidala (Adventure Gear) (CW35) and the awesome Ziro's Assassin Droid (CW37) figures. Review: Commander Neyo - TAC - Saga Legends

Posted by Paul | April 17, 2010 at 03:27 PM ET |

The 30 (77-07) Saga Legends line was one of the best sub lines collectors could have ever asked. Not only did it document a time when Hasbro actually listened to fans, it also gave us army builders, never before available figures and some of the hottest favorites that we may have missed from an earlier time. Research Droids Reviews looks at the first basic carded release of Commander Neyo that was originally found in a Walmart excluisve Battle Packs set a year earlier than the Saga Legends version. Review: Count Dooku/Anakin Skywalker - Comic Packs

Posted by Paul | April 13, 2010 at 01:35 AM ET |

Walmart has been responsible for bringing collectors some pretty cool exclusive Comic Packs. Today's Research Droids Reviews entry looks at one of the earlier exclusives that didn't make it to a lot of locations and came out the same time as the first Droid Factory series. But why in the workd did they use a pitiful sculpt for Anakin? Click the banner below for the direct link to the review! Scramble On Yavin - Battle Packs - One Hot Potato!

Posted by Paul | April 11, 2010 at 06:09 PM ET |

Our very good friends at DewbackPatrol.com asked a rather intriguing question during the latest Hasbro Q&A session and pointed out something to us that we weren't even aware. While we assumed that everyone has the totally amazing Scramble On Yavin Battle Packs, apparently many of you don't as it is catching a premium on eBay. We must lovingly chastize those of you who have not picked it up and are trying to find one for "cheap" now. We think it is hands down the best Battle Packs Hasbro has ever produced. Stick close to JTA as we may just be running another contest in the 'near' future that may just include the Scramble On Yavin set as part of the prize. While you wait and see, be sure to learn more about this set HERE.

Review: 501st Legion Trooper [Version 2] - TAC

Posted by Paul | April 11, 2010 at 05:49 PM ET |

It's hard to believe that we didn't get our first super-articulated 501st Legion clone trooper in the basic figure line until 2008, isn't it? The 2008 TAC 501st Legion from the Saga Legends line was the first time this character saw release in super-articulated glory. The figure is not free from flaws, but it is nonetheless one smoking action figure. It is so good that it has been repacked twice since in the TLC and LC Saga Legends lines too. Today's Research Droids Reviews entry discusses this figure in detail and points out that this may be one of the most anticipated action figures of all time. Find out why! Hope Remains For Cancelled Comic 2-Packs

Posted by Nick | April 11, 2010 at 12:06 AM ET |

Hasbro stunned Expanded Universe fans when it was revealed that mainline comic 2-packs would be ending with the wave of 5 comic 2-packs that have been showing up at retail in the past few weeks. But news has come out of the most recent round of Hasbro Q&A sessions that may be reason for EU fans to hold onto hope.

The first Grand Admiral Thrawn action figure turned a decade old when the the new Comic Packs version got released. And the new figure is clearly ten years "better" than the original! Research Droids Reviews looks at a very awesome Comic Packs set that seemed to be an unfortunate peg-warmer for some reason. Click the banner below for the direct link to the review! Review: Anakin Skywalker/Durge - Comic Packs

Posted by Paul | April 06, 2010 at 05:21 AM ET |

Durge is one bad bounty hunter! And Hasbro did a pretty good job to capture his evil angst in an action figure (for he receives a removable helmet for the first time), but he unfortunately lacks in other ways. Review: Asajj Ventress/Tol Skorr - Comic Packs

Posted by Paul | April 05, 2010 at 03:10 AM ET |

Asajj Ventress is no stranger to long term Star Wars collectors. She gets another stab at retail in the Comic Packs line but we think she is an ideal example that newer does not necessarily mean better. Look! Variation Found On TCW Luminara Unduli (CW30)

Posted by Paul | April 03, 2010 at 02:22 PM ET |

We were very surprised to discover another variation in the basic figure line. The Clone Wars Luminara Unduli (CW30) figure is now shipping with a much brighter and strikingly colored green lightsaber. If you remember from our Research Droids Review on this figure that we pointed out how muted the color was on the lightsaber. It seems as if Hasbro has remedied the situation now by correcting the brightness of the lightsaber blade. Click through to see the side by side comparison!

Research Droids Reviews Under Construction! Update #7

Posted by Paul | April 02, 2010 at 10:26 PM ET |

JTA's Research Droids Reviews are Under Construction! August is a far way off for all the new product and while we will continue to present you with a new review each day, we decided to "spiffy up" some of our older reviews by adding new photo galleries and new edits of the reviews as well as other collector-friendly notes.

Today's update focuses on the rarest wave of figures collectors have seen in a long time in the history of the Star Wars basic figure line based on Attack Of The Clones. The last wave of the blue phase of The Legacy Collection was truly a collector-focused group of figures and provided fans with a great selection of some much needed figures. But were you able to grab them all?! Giving us one of the best Build A Droid figures of the whole series, HK-47 brought what we expected from a droid to all new and record-breaking levels. But can Hasbro now meet or exceed our expectations now? Be sure to spend some time and check out the hard work we're doing for you behind the scenes.
