It seems to be a standard exclusive annual format now. Hasbro has decided that cobbling together a six-pack of shampoo bottles (as known as 12-Inch Figures) makes a great exclusive for retailers. In a way they do, but most of the collecting market has no such interest in anything like this. What makes these six-packs difficult sells is that there is very little new in them. And with the high MSRP of $49.99, collectors and other Star Wars fans just aren’t getting great value here. If you buy these figures singly for $9.99 each, then why would you want to repurchase most of the characters as part of a multipack? What makes the “Rogue One” set so frustrating is that one of the most popular characters from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is exclusive to this set. K-2SO is a beautifully sculpted 12-Inch Figure despite its limited articulation. The sculpting is proof of what can be accomplished in this scale. Had they added more articulation, K-2SO would have been perfect.

Unlike most of the figures in the 12-Inch Figures line, K-2SO comes without any accessories. His two lower legs come unassembled in the packaging (due to the figure’s impressive height). You have to insert them into the figure once it is removed from the packaging. Again, K-2SO is beautifully sculpted and nicely painted. It’s hard to believe the level of quality that went into making this simple figure the best it could be (and for the relatively low price it is if you figure what each figure comes to divided when $50 is divided by six figures). The rest of the set isn’t that impressive. You get three recently released Rogue One 12-Inch Figures repackaged in this set. And to make matters worse, Hasbro ALSO repackaged the old Darth Vader and Stormtrooper 12-Inch Figures which are outdated at this stage of the game. The figures aren’t screen-accurate and come with poor paint jobs that are missing key deco that has been omitted obviously due to saving money. It’s disappointing to see this.

Jyn Erso (Jedha), Captain Cassian Andor (Jedha) and Imperial Death Trooper are all decent figures. But why do we have to see them released as mainstream figures and the once again in a store exclusive? Hasbro could have done so much more to make these figures unique. They could have removed Jyn Erso (Jedha)’s head wrapping. They could have lifted up Captain Cassian Andor (Jedha)’s parka hood. They could have converted the Imperial Death Trooper into an officer (with the shoulder pauldron and ammo pouch). But they didn’t do any of this. A good exclusive includes MULTIPLE figures that you can only get from the EXCLUSIVE. Hasbro needs to understand how important it is to include more newness. They need to start working on it so that these sets become more interesting. One new figure in a multipack instantly translates as “wait for clearance” for collectors. After all, collectors are the only ones buying Star Wars stuff. We like this set, but it needs a lot of work. It’s just not as ideal as it should be.
