The Disney Store is proud to introduce the Star Wars Toybox range of action figures, bringing adventures to life with characters from across The Walt Disney Company.

After a pretty rough first wave of Sequel Trilogy characters that not too many people wanted, Disney finally steps up to the plate and is focusing on the beloved and irreplaceable Original Trilogy to bring an amazing cast of characters to collectors who adore the Star Wars Toybox line. Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, and Boba Fett made up the second wave of these figures. And in a “surprise” announcement for May the 4th, Princess Leia Organa was released to excited fanfare. She’s based on her appearance from Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope and is the perfect caricature of the onscreen character from the Episode IV film. Fans have quickly decided that they either adore or despise these figures. There is almost no middle ground that exists with this line. But we fell in love with it as soon as we heard it was coming. And aside from a lackluster first wave, this line is becoming something that excites us with each successive announcement. Admittedly, Princess Leia Organa is a highlight of all Original Trilogy announcements thus far.

Based on the likenesses of the Disney Infinity interactive experience, side by side comparisons have shown us that few differences exist between the static figure for the game and Disney’s line of super-articulated action figures. These figures are inordinately articulated. We almost feel as if they’ve been given too much articulation. Ironic, huh? In the case of the Princess Leia Organa Star Wars Toybox figure, she’s been graced with 27 points across 14 areas of articulation. Many of the premium points of articulation are wasted here quite frankly. For example, her ball-jointed wrists, while a lovely feature, can hardly be articulated thanks to her long sleeves//cuffs that inhibit their movement. And although Disney added a long slit up her dress to allow for lower body movement, it is still greatly encumbered and ultimately doesn’t provide the range of movement you’d hope to see in a figure this well-articulated. The setbacks in the movement aren’t disappointing. These figures should be appreciated for their art anyhow.

To be completely honest, it wasn’t hard for Disney to decorate Princess Leia Organa. She is mostly white, and the areas that require careful attention to detail have been done beautifully. We feel that Disney nailed her brown hair. It’s is the perfect shade. Her eyebrows and irises also match this brown color perfectly. Her expression encapsulates the spirit of this character that we see onscreen. She isn’t smiling. But she also isn’t scowling. She is in that in-between phase. Her flesh-colored hands and face look a tad too tan to us but overall makes the mark. She has a skinny waist that is accented with her signature belt. It’s tiny, but it imitates the real prop nicely. One of our most favorite aspects of the Princess Leia Organa Star Wars Toybox figure is her blaster pistol. It’s a tad too big, but that is part of the charm of this line. You can have her support it with one hand or two, and she looks tough while holding it. Princess Leia Organa is another fantastic release in the line. Now we want to see the cantina aliens next.
