Detailed Visual Analysis

Ree-Yees

General Analysis

Insiders told us it was an anagram for “three eyes,” and others have stated other origins, but one thing is certain. Ree-Yees is the coolest drunkard in Jabba’s palace AND his sail barge. When he’s preventing C-3PO from warning his Rebel friends of impending trouble or picking a fight with Yak Face, Ree-Yees is as much of a bully as he is a drunk. The slobbering Gran entered the vintage Kenner RETURN OF THE JEDI early. He was part of the first wave of action figures based on the third installment of the Original Trilogy and my parents ensured I had him to open up Christmas Day in 1983. Like many of the action figures of 1983, Ree-Yees came with a weapon that was not present in the film or was screen-accurate in any way. But his attractive gold rifle was an interesting contrast to his pink skin and burgundy colored puffy pantsuit. The Kenner figure is too short, and the figure’s head, while looking a tad too large, is appropriately scaled to the onscreen character. It is missing important detail, however. Hasbro updated this character a couple of times in the basic figure, and we came pretty darn close to “definitive status” with THE BLACK SERIES [PHASE I] release. I do like Ree-Yees very much, but he doesn’t have the specialty or notoriety of the other aliens from Jabba’s palace, which is why he best fits into your collection as a background character.
