The Emperor

Detailed Visual Analysis

The Emperor

General Analysis

For me, the mail-away The Emperor figure was the one that meant the most. I remember eagerly getting together the required proof of purchase seals to give to my mom so that she could send away for it on my behalf. I can’t pinpoint the exact day or month I received him when he arrived, but I distinctly remember tearing open the white box so I could play with him, and finally give my Luke Skywalker (Jedi Knight Outfit) figure some extra trouble he probably didn’t need. The Emperor has a fantastic likeness to the onscreen character, and with few exceptions here and there but not the entire figure, I don’t think Hasbro has come close to giving the modern Star Wars collecting audience a definitive counterpart. Hasbro’s figures either looks incredible or lack articulation or vice versa. When the vintage Kenner RETURN OF THE JEDI line transitioned to THE POWER OF THE FORCE line in 1985, I remember thinking that The Emperor figure looked even better on that card back. I loved the coin pack-in premium, and the more focused (and smaller) reference still of the character made it easier to focus (for me at least). I hope Hasbro finally attacks this character for the rebirth of THE VINTAGE COLLECTION, but they’re too busy repacking Sequel Trilogy characters that they probably won’t notice this figure’s desperate need for inclusion in the line as an all-new release.

Hasbro's Most Definitive Modern Counterpart: 2021's THE VINTAGE COLLECTION The Emperor (VC200) figure.
