A grim Jedi Master with an amethyst-bladed lightsaber, Mace Windu was the champion of the Jedi Order, with little tolerance for the failings of the Senate, the arguments of politicians, or the opinions of rebellious Jedi.

Well, well, well. It appears as if Hasbro made their first perfect The Black Series 6” figure. And that winner is Mace Windu. Jedi Temple Archives broke the news of this figure coming into the 6” figure line a while back, and here he is, in total splendor and glory. The first 6” “Jedi” figure to come with soft-goods robes and a thicker lightsaber blade (we suggested the latter to Hasbro for years, and it’s great to see this approach implemented), Mace Windu elevates and enhances the 6” line like no other figure before him. Well, maybe excluding the Gamorrean Guard, this is mostly true. Mace Windu is a complete success. From the dynamic sculpting, the uncanny likeness to actor Samuel L. Jackson, to the clever design and relatively seamless articulation system, Mace Windu might be the new pinnacle of The Black Series [Phase III] 6” line. As we’re extremely critical of this line, this is high praise and should not be taken lightly. Mace Windu proves that Hasbro possesses the capability to make action figures look eerily human, and produce quality collectibles for a group of collectors quick to criticize anything they make.

Mace Windu comes with 30 points of articulation across 19 areas. The joints are fluid, and you can quickly achieve various poses quickly. The addition of "butterfly shoulders is a nice implementation here as well. The joints don’t possess a great deal of resistance and changing the direction of arms and legs, and his head is relatively effortless. We were pleasantly surprised with how the figure can move despite having bulky robes that typically encumber movement. It’s not the case with this figure. The sculpt of Mace Windu is stunning. Not only does his portrait look like the actor, but the contour of his frame is also perfectly matched to the onscreen character. The screen-accurate details of the character show how in-tune Hasbro is to the longtime established characters of the Star Wars saga. And it’s remarkably refreshing to see the love applied to the Prequel Trilogy because often don’t get enough characters from it in the 6” scale. What’s more, the paint operations that bring Mace Windu to life accurately reflect the details of the costume we see in the film. Extra dark brown books, off-white pants, and tan inner robes all capture the essence of this character beautifully. You’re going to love him.

Aside from the removable soft-goods outer robes, Mace Windu comes with a lightsaber which breaks down into hilt and blade. We’re most thrilled with the added thickness they gave his purple blade. For years, we complained about the needle-thin blades given to the 6” figures and how wrong it looked. In most cases, the blades were thinner for 6” figures than they were 3.75” action figures. It appears as if Hasbro corrected this issue for us once and for all. When fully assembled with robe and lightsaber in hand, Mace Windu looks brilliant. They darted the hood of the robe, so it fits realistically around his head, and the movement in his hands allows you to pose him with the lightsaber in some fantastically energetic poses. Because of the inclusion of the lightsaber, this Mace Windu 6” figure is based on his appearance in Star Wars Episode II: Attack Of The Clones. And you wouldn’t be wrong if you said this is based on Star Wars Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith either. But we also choose “first appearance” as the source for our reviews here. Mace Windu is the finest of wines in the 6” range. Not getting one would be a terrible travesty.
