Hasbro may be in the business of making new Star Wars action figures, but they’re also in the business of making money. And to make money, they need to reuse existing tooling wherever possible to bring new characters into the toy line, sometimes within months of each other. Take, for instance, Migs Mayfeld and Din Djarin (Morak) from The Vintage Collection. They are the exact figure with new head sculpts and differing paint jobs based on tooling that originated during the Rogue One: A Star Wars Story era. Admittedly, the tooling holds up well, but many collectors have become spoiled by Hasbro’s latest and greatest TVC figures. Hence, there is little hope that these figures will possess universal appreciation. The Mandalorian is one of Disney Star Wars’ most prominent properties. Fans of the series want as many characters as possible from it, hence Hasbro’s quick and cost-effective turnaround. The Din Djarin (Morak) figure is a marvel. It comes with a revised head sculpt from the Walmart-exclusive Din Djarin (The Mandalorian) (VC177) figure, and Hasbro decided to give it a distinct paint job too. The figure is excellent, and those that love the series should be thrilled to add this figure to their collections. And it pairs nicely with the Migs Mayfeld figure released a few months prior.

As mentioned, the figure notably uses existing tooling from a character released during the Rogue One: A Star Wars Story era. Hasbro tooled many new parts, too, since they didn’t have everything in place to produce a screen-accurate version of this character from The Mandalorian. If you recall, early in 2022, Hasbro released an incorrect interpretation of Migs Mayfeld based on the character’s appearance on Morak. The figure came with a red armband. They confused it with Din Djarin’s costume, and this ranking designation was exclusive to Din Djarin. Coincidentally, earlier versions of The Vintage Collection Migs Mayfeld action figure also came with that red armband, but Hasbro quickly got a correction into production expediently, and the new version is shipping concurrently with the error. But they got this character’s costume right the first time, which is excellent. Din Djarin (Morak) is a kit-bashed figure that is nearly is about 2% new. The legs and cod section are from 2016’s TBS [P3] Scarif Stormtrooper Squad Leader figure. Unfortunately, you can’t bend the knees meaningfully, and the ball-jointed hips and swivel thighs won’t help this situation much. The upper body, reused hands, arms, torso, and skirt come from Migs Mayfeld. Of course, the portrait has the most newness here, but it’s just the revised hairpiece.

Hasbro ensured that all the parts interacted seamlessly, and the new paint operations were impressive. Hasbro worked in a lot of weathering and battle-damaged details throughout the armor, giving Din Djarin (Morak) a believably realistic look. You’ll love what Hasbro did here, as they produced a precise action figure for the character we see in The Mandalorian and Morak. It’s not a perfect specimen, but we should commend Hasbro for its efforts. The head sculpt on Din Djarin (Morak) is excellent. Hasbro did an admirable job making the portrait resemble this character. There are plusses and minuses for figures at this scale, but we’re happy overall with the final results. You’ll notice that the paint schemes differ quite a bit between the two characters. That’s a good thing! For accessories, we get a respectable amount here, but nothing extraordinary. Hasbro included a removable helmet that fits nicely over the figure’s head. They also included the standard blaster for the Juggernaut drivers. We’re thrilled that they didn’t need to do a running change on this figure to fix something like an incorrect red stripe on the arm. Collectors of The Vintage Collection line should continue to expect repaints and rehashes like this in the lineup. Hasbro’s tooling budget seems obliterated anymore, so we’re happy if they find cool ways to introduce some newness like this.
