May the Force be with you.... and your Droids!

Another year means another “holiday” astromech from the Disney Droid Factory line. For 2023, Disney simplified things a little bit more than usual. They took an R8-series astromech droid base, painted it red and white, and added a green wreath to wrap around its body. It’s a unique take on the droid, festive, and thematic for Christmastime. The paint operations aren’t perfect, but they’re passable. Overall, the droid looks excellent. The figures in this lineup aren’t perfect, but we find they’re more challenging to hate than to love them. Collectors are still angered at Disney removing the foot wires, and sometimes, the paint operations aren’t as perfect as needed. But overall, Disney has been able to produce a line of figures that are clever, thoughtful, and appreciated by droid fans all over the world. Since 2015, Disney has been releasing a series of holiday-themed astromech droids in the spirit of the Christmas season. They remain their strongest sellers and sell out the fastest. Based on the R8-series astromech droid sculpt, R8-H23 is the first droid inspired by an R8 Unit. It fits in well with the other Christmas astromech droids and stands independently. We will likely continue seeing these “holiday-inspired” Droid Factory action figures for years. Collectors of this line eagerly anticipate them, and when you look at how well a figure like R8-H23 turned out, you can’t help but want to see what they do next.
