A photo of the back of the box of Black Series Rey has appeared on the internet. And the short blurb about D-O contains some VERY badly translated German text. Which makes you wonder if a) no one at Hasbro can speak and write German or b) they use Google Translate instead because they are lazy. Let’s hope this error has been corrected for the regular edition boxes, because it’s kind of embarrassing to read something that almost sounds like your average auto-translated manual for some cheap Chinese electronics product.

This is the German text translated back into English, so you know what I am talking about:

More details for the upcoming Disney+ Kenobi series have been announced! Deborah Chow will direct the series and Hossein Amini will write the scripts. Executive producers will be Chow, Amini and Ewan McGregor, alongside Kathleen Kennedy, Tracey Seaward (she worked on The Queen, Philomena, Florence Foster Jenkins) and John Swartz (producer for Force Awakens, Rogue One and Solo).
Deborah Chow has directed episodes for quite a few illustrous tv/streaming shows, she worked on the Mandalorian, Better Call Saul, Fear The Walking Dead, American Gods, The Man in the High Castle, Mr. Robot and Vampire Diaries, to name a few. Hossein Amini is best known for writing the Ryan Gosling movie “Drive”, he also worked on “Snow White and the Huntsman” and “47 Ronin”.  See the full story at the Hollywood Reporter.

After yesterday’s barrage of reveals and promo photos of upcoming Star Wars toys, now is maybe the time to gather your thoughts. What is your opinion now? How do you feel about what’s coming next week? Are you happy? Are you disappointed? Would you have hoped for more? How much will you buy? Or will you play the waiting game and hope for discounts?

Will you try your luck in stores next Friday or will you simply wait for the usual etailers to make things available online? However, buying online means you will miss out on any white “First Edition” Black Series boxes. The Entertainment Earth YouTube channel confirmed in their latest video that the “First Edition” will be found at brick & mortar only, you will get the regular boxes when ordering online. So Hasbro is trying to give brick & mortar something special here.

No  word about availability (Triple Force Friday? Or a bit later?) yet, but the Black Series Elite Snowtrooper was also revealed earlier tonight. It begs the question why a Snowtrooper, wearing special cold weather outfit, needs a cape. Maybe because capes are just cool. Who knows… other than the cape, this seems to be the First Order Snowtrooper we got a few years ago! So the figure is mostly a repack.

While the Triple Force Friday livestream event didn’t mention the Vintage collection or showed a single Vintage Colleciton toy, Dark Side Toys posted a picture of the brand new upcoming AT-ST Raider from the Mandalorian series on their Facebook page!
Price is still unknown. Availability should be Force Friday, according to Dark Side Toys. The AT-ST comes with one figure.

Update: according to IGN, this set is a Best Buy exclusive!

The Triple Force Friday toy livestream revealed an all new Black Series C-3PO with bowcaster, bandolier and a tiny, tiny character called Babu Frik, who is a droid builder.

Also shown was the Black Series Cara Dune figure and the Black Series Jannah figure (looking very nice).

Not a single TVC figure was shown or advertised. TVC was not even mentioned in passing. But a few Lego Sets (Millennium Falcon, Pasaana Speeder Chase), Galaxy of Adventure figures, Funko Pops and the new interactive D-O, which does look like a fun toy, were shown.

If you didn’t watch the livestream you didn’t miss all that much! It was 45 short minutes, with most segments pre-recorded. But it was cute seeing how much Daisy loved her Black Series figure!

This week, EA games announced (finally) that they would be adding instant action to Battlefront II. That’s the best part of the old Battlefront games in my humble opinion, so I’m extremely excited for the addition to the new games. Now I just need an Xbox One or a gaming PC….. Anyway. The other new addition to the game are Clone Commandos. With Clone Wars on its way next year on Disney+, it got me thinking: Hasbro really needs to make an all-new clone commando in TVC and TBS and re-use the heck out of it with different color schemes. Click through for a review on the clone commando figures we’ve gotten thus far!

Hasbro’s great retail partner Walmart seems to live in a different time zone here and there. The following story is not explicable any other way, but let me quote an email by Adam U. who contacted us earlier today verbatim:

I was at the Niagara Falls Walmart and the Star Wars display was out and all vintage and black series were gone. The girl working in toys told me they are just printing stickers for them so they scan. She even did for me on the gold sets, but I left it. This is absurd. The fun is just being sucked out of the hobby.

One can only hope that Walmart will also have the Triple Force Friday toys in the regular toy aisle, or else the little stock they have will be gone in minutes come October 4th.
Apart from the question why this particular Walmart would put out the TFF endcap more than a week before Triple Force Friday… how can they leave the endcap like that, looking like a total mess?

Update: we have received another report from Mike O. that one of the Walmarts in the Rochester area also has the TFF endcap out in the open, and as expected all the good stuff is already gone. The only things left are lightsabers and Galaxy of Adventure toys. And Tim M. tells us that his Walmart already has a few LEGO Triple Force Friday sets on shelves, among them the new Millennium Falcon and the Pasaana Speeder Chase set. The Hollywood Reporter broke the story yesterday: Catherine Powell, who oversaw Disneyland Paris, Walt Disney World and Disneyland, is leaving the company, her position will be eliminated altogether and her staff will now report directly to Bob Chapek, the chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences & Products. The Hollywood Reporter article implies that Howell’s departure may have something to do with the drop in theme park attendance, following the opening of Galaxy’s Edge. The official Star Wars website posted the following news a short while ago:

Tune into YouTube.com/StarWars on Thursday, September 26, at 11 a.m. PT / 2 p.m. ET for a special livestream event based at Pinewood Studios in London, the famed shooting location of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Via live and recorded vignettes, generations of Star Wars icons will reveal new products in advance of their roll out on Triple Force Friday, October 4, all inspired by a trio of the year’s biggest Star Wars releases.

Does that mean Daisy Ridley will get to unbox her own action figure? Most collectors will probably not be surprised by any of the announcements. But maybe there is still one or the other surprise left that hasn’t leaked on Facebook, Instagram or YouTube yet. Will you watch the livestream?

Disney CEO Bob Iger released his autobiography “The Ride of a Lifetime: Lessons Learned From 15 Years As CEO Of The Walt Disney Company” yesterday and in it he also very candidly talks about how George Lucas reacted when he first saw The Force Awakens. We first reported that The Vintage Collection Jabba’s Palace would make an appearance at retail for Fall 2019. This is all still true. And now it looks as if it’s getting labeled as a Triple Force Friday product (Ian’s email partially confirms this), despite some remite stores putting it on the shelf earlier this summer (there were only a handful of store reports). ALso, don’t forget that Walmart is retsocking this item online as well. It will likely be avaialable on October 4th as well, but if we get better details we will let you know. In the meantime, reader JTA reade Ian M.’s store report by clicking through.

This Luke will (also) be available as a German con exclusive, apparently and he comes in a quite nice looking special box and a host of interesting accessories!

A daily routine search on eBay has yielded yet another leak. Look at this all new “Carbonized” First Order Jet Trooper Black Series Figure… the figure and the box have a pearlescent finish, which makes this the third variant figure so far we know of.
If you have too much money lying around: the figure can be yours for a mere $125! You can also find most Black Series First Edition figures on eBay for about $30. I bet Hasbro loves this guerilla marketing campaign by Disney!

The Jet Trooper is number “99” btw. Let’s see what figure will be “100”.

Jeff M. was with his son at a Walmart in Camden, Delaware and look what he has found! A Rise of Skywalker Endcap. You can also see the brand new “Scream Saber” on display which not only has prerecorded lightsaber sounds, but lets you record your own sounds. Walmart wouldn’t sell the toys, they won’t even let Jeff or his son hold them. Why break the street date then and display these toys? Another questions is if this Endcap will be all there is for the movie at Walmart. Absent here are some of the Galaxy of Adventure toys, so you will probably also find Star Wars toys in the toy aisle. Also, it seems as if the Black Series First Edition boxes may be all you will get when you buy a figure on Triple Force Friday. Someone who prefers the standard box may have to wait a bit until they are available. Thanks to Jeff for sending us the photo!

The comedy that is called “Disney Star Wars Merchandise Embargo” adds another act to the play. Facebook User Richard Nash posted photos of a yet unannounced brand new Mandalorian figure variant on the Action Figures Collectors UK Facebook group! So on top of the “graphite” Second Sister we now also get a “carbonized” Mandalorian! If you head over to the Facebook Group you will see more photos of the box, this variant still has the number “94”. Will you get these paint variants? It seems these paint variants are not meant to be screen accurate, but rather chase variants for completionists? Will you get this figure? The box certainly looks better than the standard Black Series box. Click the photo below for a larger version!

With Hasbro, 3.75″ collectors are good as gold to them! If this is the only things 3.75″ collectors are getting to celebration the Luke Skywalker saga. There needs to be a The Vintage Collection celebration of these character continuing. There is no other way to celebrate it for those collectors. JTA reader Paul V. found GOLD 5POA action figures at his local Walmart. (They didn’t ring up, obviously). But who is going to buy this line? Honestly. Please let us know. And don’t be afraid if you like these.

Forbes posted a fascinating article running through the MULTIPLE Toys RUs experiences coming this fall to select parts of the USA. Firstly, there will be “play spaces ” stores that will function like a “museum” (for lack of a better word), and patrons will be charged $20 for kids and $28 for adult. (Imagine if FAO Schwarz charged and entry fee to play the giant keyboard featured in Big?) The Toys R Us Adventure spaces will include experiences sponsored by toy manufacturers, with giant versions of popular toys. The only merchandise to purchase in these stores will be available in a gift shop. Then Toys R Us is opening two physical stores, one in Paramus NJ and the other in Houston, Texas. The other venture, TRU Kids will have select merchandise, some interactivity, and very few collector-focused items. See the full article HERE.

While Disney has everything under embargo and Hasbro roll their eyes 360 degrees all day long, the rest of the world doesn’t care one bit about Disney’s confused Triple Force Friday strategy. Stores in North America ignore street dates (someone was able to buy the Mandalorian figure just very recently), things leak left and right on Instagram and Facebook… and now the first YouTube videos of the Triple Force Friday Black Series figures are released. YouTuber “Vern’s Hobbies” bought the figures from Hasbro’s great retail partner Walmart in Canada! “Vern’s Hobbies” has already unboxed and reviewed The Mandalorian, Cal Kestis and the Offworld Jawa, chances are the rest of the TFF figures will follow shortly, so maybe you follow his channel for updates, if you want to see videos of the figures.

Instagram user crimsondawn_collectibles posted a photo of the yet unrevealed and unnannounced brand new Jedi Luke figure from Return of the Jedi on Instagram! It looks as though he has a non removable plastic tunic and a soft goods cloak. So you won’t be able to easily transform him into a better looking Death Star duel Luke. This Luke comes without a gloved hand. It remains to be seen if an extra gloved hand is hidden in the box, but knowing Hasbro this may not be the case. The figure may or may not be a retailer exclusive. Thanks to cybereye for the alert!

You certainly remember that leaked poster/promo image from a while ago that some people considered fake and suspected to be fanmade? In the meantime, it was proven that it was not fake at all and now a slightly updated version of the poster has appeared in the wild. Someone took a photo of the updated image (source is unknown) and posted it on Reddit. Please click on the image below for the full version.

The one real difference I can see? Instead of that odd alien, the image now shows Rose next to Finn. Still conspicuously absent is R2-D2. Is it time to start a #wheresR2 campaign yet? JJ, don’t you dare kill him!

The “Heroes & Villains” Facebook page has posted photos of two upcoming 12 inch Rise of Skywalker figures. The Sith Strooper and Supreme Leader Kylo Ren. It seems these figures are bought by someone? Or is Hasbro just fulfilling contractual obligations here? Anyway, the duo was spotted at Walmart, who, like Meijer, don’t really seem to care about embargos and street dates, at least when we talk about putting top secret toys that no one must know about on shelves for us mere mortals to see.

German Star Wars collecting site Starwarscollector.de posted a photo of the upcoming Galaxy of Adventures “First Order Driver & Treadspeeder” toy on their homepage earlier today! This set was spotted at Meijer in the US and is supposed to get released on Triple Force Friday.
The toy has an action feature, at the push of a putton the FO Driver is thrown off the speeder and some parts come off. Price will be $19.99 in the US and 29.99 euros in Germany. What do you think of this set? $19.99 for one 5 inch figure and a vehicle seem like a good deal when you consider that a single Black Series figure is also $19.99. Will you add the toy to your collection? Do you think kids will want this set?

Entertainment Tonight met Jon Favreau at the recent Saturn Awards and he talked at length about Gina Carano (who stood right next to him, looking quite delightful) and the Mandalorian series. And then the Holiday Special was brought up, since a few elements from the special, like the rifle, are in the new series, and Favreau remarked that he is actually a great fan of the Special. Admittedly, he likes some segments more than others, and then Favreau said that one day he would love to do a Holiday Special on Disney+. And if fans want that, they should let Disney+ know.
Ignoring the possibility that Favreau may have just made a fun remark… what would you like to see in an all new Holiday Special? Rey and Kylo singing “I just called to say I love you”? A Finn and Rose ballet number? Old man Lando watching some spicy droid movies? Luke entering a lightsaber tossing contest? Chewie presenting the best Porg recipies (without any subtitles, of course)? There are some rumors circulating the internet that Lucasfilm may develop a Disney+ spin-off series based on Solo. Website Star Wars Unity has a story about an alleged Solo spin off that would continue some of the story threads of the movie. The rumor report says that any series based on Solo would most likely revolve around Crimson Dawn and not so much Han Solo, Chewbacca and Lando. Click through to read more!

DENIED! JTA reader Eric C. found the newest The Vintage Collection figures at his local Walmart in Canada, but was denied purchase when he brought them to the register! Check out the great shots he got of the figures by clicking the images below.

The NYCC website updates the day and time of the Hasbro panel. It will be Sunday, October 6th at 1:15 PM at the Javits Center. We’ll likely learn a lot more about what will follow Triple Force Friday then. I am not sure how much new could be revealed after what shows up on eBay from now until then. Time will tell.

Just because I never heard or saw of this Star Wars [Solo] 12 Inch FIgure six-pack doesn’t mean you haven’t. But it looks like another retailer exclusive bit the dust. Presumably, an item for TARGET, JTA reader Scott B. found this set at his local Meijer in northern Michigan for only $19.99!

YouTuber Hello Greedo released a video yesterday, which is an obvious parody of various “doom and gloom” reports about Star Wars being dead or dying. Hello Greedo focuses mostly on the toy business, he cites various “doom and gloom” articles from the prequel era about the toys to convey a clear message: it was apparently mostly hyperbole then (we still have Star Wars toys in 2019, after all) and it’s most certainly hyperbole now. Here is something else the Hasbro Star Wars brand doesn’t need to rot at retail. Another line like this only hurts their bottom line and irritate shareholders. I have never heard of this line myself, but JTA reader mic windu found a super-sized 10″ line of Galactic Heroes called Mega Mighties. Look for it at your closest clearance aisle in a couple of weeks.

Imperial TIE Fighter Pilot • The Empire Strikes Back • 1982

I made a couple of mistakes on the Luke Skywalker (Yavin) figure’s recipe. So, I wanted to clear that up here. Firstly, the figure is indeed a retool of 2013’s TBS [P1] Luke Skywalker (#05) figure. But the head sculpt (and hairpiece), forearms AND hands are all new parts. I initially believed they were the same hands of the Luke Skywalker (Jedi Knight) figure from the Luke Skywalker Jedi Destiny set, but those hands are ball-jointed, and Luke Skywalker (Yavin)’s hands are swivel. I wanted to make that detail clear. They look to be based on each other, but they’re definitely different. If you haven’t seen our review on this figure, please check it out HERE.

While browsing my local German Amazon shop today I stumbled upon a yet unannounced variant of the Sith Trooper figure: a so-called “First Edition” Sith Trooper that comes in an all white box and red background! I immediately tried to find the figure on Amazon US, but had no luck, so it seems that maybe Amazon Germany revealed something that they were not supposed to reveal yet.
But what is this? You can already pre-order the figure on Amazon.de, however availability is October 4th, which is Triple Force Friday! Is it possible that there will be more “First Editions” of other Triple Force Friday figures? Will Hasbro make box variants now? Are box variants or “First Editions” anything that interest you? As usual, we know nothing specific, I suppose Hasbro will eventually announce something. Until then we can speculate that the Black Series will see “Special Editions” or “First Editions” box variants. Actually, this “First Edition” box design with the circular callout was also something we saw in the leaked box photos of the Second Sister, which said “graphite”. Is it possible that “graphite” refers to the box here and is a special edition of sorts? Will you chase these box variants?

LEGO just revealed a brand new UCS Imperial Star Destroyer on their homepage. VIP members will be able to buy the set beginning September 18th, public availability is October 1st.
The set has 4,784 pieces, the model on display stand measures over 17” (44cm) high, 43” (110cm) long and 26” (66cm) wide, and over 14” (37cm) high without stand. This Star Destroyer dwarves the TVC barge by quite a bit and is also more massive than the already massive Super Star Destroyer by LEGO!

Entertainment Weekly released two exclusive, all new photos from The Mandalorian, one of them showing how he battles two Trandoshans. Once more proof that several of the popular original trilogy alien species will make a welcome return. Then there is also a new promo photo showing the Mandalorian with Cara Dune. And with this visual evidence has turned up that the Mandalorian will upgrade or change his armor throughout the show. Click through for the photos!

Entertainment Weekly has an exclusive story on their website with one all new detail about the upcoming Mandalorian show on Disney+.

The show will explore the origins of the First Order! Now if that is just a side plot or a major plot element is unknown. What we do know is that remnants of Imperial forces are still around. Perhaps we will see how these remnants reform to become the First Order. Not all of the former Stormtroopers, Moffs and Governors became good citizens of the New Republic. So it seems The Mandalorian might bridge the original and the sequel trilogy and provide some much needed background and add some worldbuilding to the sequels.

It seems Mark is still not all too happy about the extent of his role and number of lines in The Force Awakens, even after all those years. Chances are he will talk more in The Rise of Skywalker again, being dead is barely an inconvenience for a Jedi, after all. And who knows, maybe the movie will even add another timeless Luke Skywalker quote. What could it be? “Rey, you are my aunt?!?! That’s not true! In the last few days a lot of new leaks and spoilers for the Rise of Skywalker were released on Reddit. Maybe not all of you know of the spoilers yet, and even if you know of them, we still haven’t really talked about them. So in this post I will summarize the most important spoilers, that should provide us with a basic idea what Episode IX will allegedly be about. The ultimate question is if Episode IX will be a satisfying conclusion not just to the sequel trilogy, but also to the Skywalker saga as a whole. So click through for the latest round of spoilers. ARTOO-DETOO (R2-D2) • The Empire Strikes Back • 1982

It’s leak season. While Disney insists on an embargo things leak left and right. We know of the regular First Order Jet Trooper. Not a leak for a change, the costume was on display at D23. And now the red Sith Trooper variant of the Jet Trooper has leaked. It’s safe to assume that we will get a figure of him eventually. The Sith Jet Trooper was revealed on a t-shirt, actually, but the print is pretty detailed and also provides a first glimpse at the actual jet pack itself! I appears the Sith Jet Trooper, while very similar in design to the regular Jet Trooper, shares some design elements with the regular Sith Trooper, which makes sense. It seems all Sith Trooper variants will feature the grooves on the armor.
