Welcome to another entry in our The Vintage Collection: The Ninety Six column. Hasbro recently committed to collectors that they will be “focusing” on characters in The Vintage Collection that fall under “The Ninety Six” banner. If you’re new to this, it means that for every classic Kenner figure, there needs a modern counterpart. Between 2020 and 2021, Hasbro’s made an admirable effort by focusing on these characters. But there is more work to be done, and we’ll figure out where we are step by step.
We’re right in alignment with Hasbro in our vintage Kenner database. There are 21 figures under the STAR WARS banner, 29 figures under THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK banner, 31 figures under the RETURN OF THE JEDI banner, and 15 figures under THE POWER OF THE FORCE banner. (Sy Snootles, Max Rebo, Droopy McCool, and Blue Snaggletooth bring the number to an even 100 figures.)
Read our assessment, and then be sure to add your thoughts to the comments. Let us know if you agree or disagree. If you’re a customizer, show us your custom definitive figure in the comments as well! Who knows? It might give Hasbro some ideas.
In this week’s adventure the Bad Batch are after some information about the identity of the bounty hunter and her client from last week’s episode. But in typical fashion the Bad Batch first need to do something for the informant they seek out: rescue a kid from slavers. Sounds easy for an elite squad of clones? Right? Let’s discuss the latest Bad Batch episode and read my spoiler review of “Rampage”!
We still have new The Vintage Collection figures to check out! Let’s now take a look at the $14.99 Shadow Stormtrooper Gaming Greats figure from Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. You’re going to like this one! (more….)

We still have new The Vintage Collection figures to check out! Let’s take a look at the $14.99 Scout Trooper Gaming Greats figure from Jedi Fallen Order. What a shame that this is our first Scout Trooper in TVC, and not on the appropriate Return Of The Jedi card. (more….)
Princess Leia (Endor), Paploo, and Luke Skywalker (Endor – With Non-removable Helmet). Oh, and let’s not forget the upcoming Scout Trooper from the Gaming Greats line. Yet, the current Hasbro Star Wars team hasn’t announced the reissuing of the fantastic Toys R Us exclusive Speeder Bike vehicle from 2012’s SW [The Phantom Menace 3D] line look. Hasbro, it’s high time to get out this stunning Speeder Bike vehicle to the marketplace again. You’ve never placed it in The Vintage Collection packaging. Add in a pack-in Biker Scout figure in The Vintage Collection packaging, and you’ll make us all very happy collectors. Don’t screw this up for the 40th Anniversary of Return Of The Jedi.

Today we look at the Walmart exclusive The Vintage Collection Paploo figure. What a joke! Hasbro slapped us all in the face with this one, and they should be embarrassed. It’s nothing more than Lumat in a different color and with different accessories. And this approach is bad when Paploo has distinct features from all other Ewoks. That’s just the beginning of this mess, however. (more….)

Why aren’t you purchasing The Vintage Collection Lando Calrissian (Skiff Guard) (VC144)? Not only was it the highlight of 2019, but Hasbro also took the time to correct the base figure’s (the “sandstorm” version) many issues, including its shortness, incorrect colors, and finally placed it on gorgeous Kenner-inspired packaging where it belongs. It’s perfection. I don’t want to hear that you passed on this figure because of the missing skiff guard blaster. It’s currently only $7.99 at Walmart.com. Don’t wait for this to sell out and then buy it on eBay for $40 or $50! After this, they’re gone forever!
The final Target exclusive Visual Guide update from The Black Series commemorating the original The Clone Wars line is Anakin Skywalker. Click below for our full Visual Guide page, and click here for our in-depth review.

Thank the Maker! We have new 3.75-inch action figures to review. Let’s check out the Walmart exclusive The Vintage Collection Princess Leia (Endor) figure. Man, it’s almost perfect, and likely the last time we’ll ever get this figure again in this scale. If you don’t purchase this figure, you’re an idiot. It’s unreal how great the upgrades are here. “Rangers Of The New Republic” was announced last year alongside multiple other Star Wars projects. Not much is known about the series, other than that it’s a Mandalorian spin-off, just like “Ahsoka”. But then Mandalorian star Gina Carano was fired by Lucasfilm earlier this year and that has apparently thrown a wrench into the works. Click through for the full story!

Hello, toy runners! Welcome back to another fine Tuesday. This weekend my wife and I went to the Chandler Fashion Center mall, and perused through the shops. We went into a new toy store called Toy Temple. I also updated my TVC Obi-Wan with a definitive head sculpt from Spartan118 Industries. Check out my finds by clicking here!
Today begins Research Droids Reviews Season 13! ARC Trooper Echo wasn’t part of the 2008/2008 The Clone Wars [Blue] line either, but this is a gorgeous figure. (more….)

Hey, remember when Hawk was released in 2008’s/2009’s The Clone Wars [Blue] line? We don’t either. For one reason or another, this one slipped by Hasbro. The Lucasfilm 50th Anniversary “The Clone Wars” Clone Pilot Hawk is an anachronism of itself, but it’s nice to finally get this character in action figure form after more than a decade. (more….)

It’s becoming increasingly more frustrating to find anything Star Wars-related merchandise at retail. And while we are constantly bombarded by the pompous defenders that retailer exclusives are a necessary evil for the Star Wars toy line, one has to wonder what the point of all this is when literally nothing is found. Many The Vintage Collection Walmart exclusives can still be either pre-ordered or are in stock now, including 2019’s Lando Calrissian (Skiff Guard) which is now marked down to $7.99. The most notable out-of-stock recent exclusives are Din Djarin and the Tusken Raider. Even after the pre-order debacle last year, it’s pretty impressive that most of these are still available, especially when you compare how Target has handled their pre-orders for exclusives (they last about 3 minutes, and then are never heard from again).
Click below for product pages for these (mostly) still available exclusives. We will see how well Walmart has adapted to the pre-order environment once the next round starts shipping in July!

Distribution of Star Wars action figures has been an ongoing topic for quite a while now. And the pandemic certainly didn’t make things easier. I pre-ordered Kit Fisto and a few other figures at a local etailer back in December 2019. Original release date was spring 2020. Spring came and I received a notification that Kit Fisto is not available and that the figure will be shipped a little later. Only to receive yet another notification that Kit Fisto is still not available when that time came… and then he got pushed back again… and again… and again… and again… fast forward to May 2021 and I had actually given up on ever getting Kit Fisto, not that he’s a particularly good figure to begin with, so I was not too upset, but lo and behold, the figure finally became available and so in early May 2021 I received a figure I had pre-ordered 17 months earlier.

Some Black Series figures are prone to falling over. This is just a fact of life. You learn to live with it. Well, here’s something you don’t see very often… Toys! In the store! It was a miracle. This particular Walmart in San Tan, AZ must have gotten a Hasbro shipment in as I found a fresh case of repacked TVC figures, repacked GI Joe figures, and brand new Marvel Legends that coincide with several recent shows and even some upcoming ones… Amazing how Hasbro can do that.

It’s that time of the year again when companies report their quarterly earnings. Hasbro did so a little more than two weeks ago, Disney followed this week. So how are things? The Black Series 6″ collectors are getting it all. Now Hasbro opened up the old Expanded Universe “comic packs” for them for the Lucasfilm 50th Anniversary sub-line. Sigh. Do they even know who these characters are? Let’s look at the shirtless Darth Maul (Sith Apprentice) figure. Rey certainly wouldn’t approve of this figure. (more….)

We’re about a year and a half out from the Retro Collection Return Of The Jedi figures, so that means that Hasbro is planning the assortment as we speak. What six candidates do you want to see realized in this assortment of 5POA action figures? We think we’ve picked the 12 most popular characters, but you may have different feelings about this. Let us know in the comments! If you need some help recalling the original Kenner RETURN OF THE JEDI figures, click HERE.
At the end of “Aftermath”, the Bad Batch set a course for J-19, the location of planet Saleucami, a place we last saw in The Clone Wars season 2. So it’s time to meet an old friend! But the episode also tackles an issue central to the show, is it ok for a young child to be with a bunch of deserted soldiers who are on the run from the Empire? Click through for my spoiler review of “Cut And Run” and let’s discuss the latest Bad Batch episode!

May 4th didn’t just give us new toys, the very first Bad Batch episode was released on Disney+. The Bad Batch are not new characters, we all know them from season 7 of The Clone Wars. So how is their own show? Is it any good? I am not spoiling anything when I say yes, the show is quite good. Of course it could be even better, but it’s only the very first episode and the show has a lot of potential. So click through for my spoiler review of the very first The Bad Batch episode “Aftermath” and let’s discuss the adventures of a group of misfit clones that try to find their way in a post Order 66 galaxy.

Update: Vice Admiral Rampart is back available to pre-order
The Vintage Collection
Retro Collection
The Black Series
Hasbro did collectors of The Vintage Collection no favors with the announcement of the Death Star Droid. It STILL doesn’t reflect the modern counterpart of the on-screen character, because, well, it’s a modern counterpart to the Kenner figure only. (more….)
The Bad Batch aired its first episode yesterday and in the first few minutes of the show Star Wars canon is once more rewritten, despite Disney’s claim that everything – movies, shows, books, comics, even games – is canon. This is not the first time canon has been rewritten by a movie or show of course. So the question is, why does Disney still insist on calling certain things “canon”, when in fact they can easily be rewritten by a movie or tv show? Click through for a discussion! And spoilers for The Bad Batch apply, so don’t click if you haven’t seen the show yet and would like to avoid spoilers.
All these reveals today kept me busy! I posted this on our Instagram page, but just am getting the chance to write about it now. Gentle Giant has listed four more new products available for pre-order:
Disney is always working on new tech to improve the experience of theme park visitors. One of these new technologies is an actual retractable, illuminated lightsaber that activates just like you know it from the movies at the push of a button. Guests who will book a stay at the Galactic Starcruiser hotel (scheduled opening is in 2022) will actually get a chance to wield these brand new lightsabers in something like a lightsaber dojo. It is not yet known if an actual toy will be made with that tech that can be bought anywhere or if this is something you’ll only see in parks for the time being. Click through to see a short clip of the new lightsaber in action and find out how it all works!

Hasbro’s The Vintage Collection presentation today was disappointing. I don’t know anyone who can find complete satisfaction in what was offered today. The ONLY saving grace is the Tusken Raider which has new tooling to forgive its past sins, but we’ve been complaining about that for a decade and a half too. But the new announcements are entirely problematic. (more….)

Welcome to our new column entitled The Vintage Collection: The Ninety Six. Hasbro recently made a commitment to collectors that they will be “focusing” on characters in The Vintage Collection that fall under “The Ninety Six” banner. If you’re new to this, it means that for every classic Kenner figure, there needs a modern counterpart. Between 2020 and 2021, Hasbro’s made an admirable effort by focusing on these characters. But there is more work to be done and we’ll figure out where we are step by step.
(Sy Snootles, Max Rebo, Droopy McCool, and Blue Snaggletooth brings the number to an even 100 figures.)
Read our assessment, and then be sure to add your thoughts into the comments. Let us know if you agree or disagree. If you’re a customizer, show us your custom definitive figure in the comments as well! Who knows? It might give Hasbro some ideas.
