AT-AP (All Terrain Attack Pod) - TVC - Vehicles

There are just some collectors out there who will never warm up to Prequel Trilogy stuff getting packaged in The Vintage Collection. To them we respect their opinion, but still would like to make it known that they’re truly missing out on some wonderful gems. What’s disconcerting to us about this is that many of these collectors enjoy the Prequel Trilogy films (or some of them) yet feel that the toys based on them should not be adulterating the Original Trilogy stuff.... in any way. But we see it as if the vintage Kenner line never stopped and has continued without interruption. Obviously that might be difficult to set your mind in that direction since we have gone through so many different line looks already. And now that all three Prequel Trilogy films have come and gone, it probably does seem slightly backwards to start throwing them into The Vintage Collection packaging at this point. But we’re positive and hopeless romantics of that glorious line look. And we’ve been especially warmed by how awesome figures from The Phantom Menace, Attack Of The Clones and Revenge Of The Sith look in the classically nostalgic silver and black line look with that eye popping red movie title font. We won’t try to force you to like Episode I, II and III stuff in “vintage” packaging, but you owe it to yourself to see just how cool it looks.

Admittedly, we are surprised that Hasbro would choose to release the AT-AP (All Terrain Attack Pod) from Episode III in The Vintage Collection. It’s not that it isn’t a great vehicle, because it is. It just doesn’t have the popularity of a Jedi starfighter or a vehicle flown or driven by a more popular Star Wars character. That being said, things are further complicated because seemingly Hasbro has selected an Expanded Universe version of the AT-AP (All Terrain Attack Pod) vehicle. But this we aren’t absolutely certain. After scanning the Battle of Kashyyyk on Blu-ray, we did notice that there is evidence that there are differently decorated AT-AP vehicles. We aren’t entirely confident that the color scheme of this AT-AP is seen in Episode III, but we did see them colored with green color flashes. (Check out the movie still below – there are two unique styles in that scene alone.) The sequences speed by very quickly and when you pause the scene it becomes too blurry to see anything clearly. So we feel good about there being a remote possibility that this style of the AT-AP is somewhere within Revenge Of The Sith. (If you know for certain, then please let us know!) This version of the AT-AP (All Terrain Attack Pod) was first released as 2010’s TCW AT-AP (All Terrain Attack Pod) in the “Shadow Of The Dark Side” line look. There are insignificant changes made to the 2012 release, but don’t worry, you likely won’t care what they are.

As a toy, the AT-AP (All Terrain Attack Pod) is a blast. While we are certainly more fond of the packaging than anything else, there is no denying that kids of all ages will have plenty of joy-filled play time with this vehicle. The two rear legs are articulated in two spots and the third leg is articulated at one joint. While it would have been so much better for all three legs to each have multiple points of articulation, there is “enough” here to make this vehicle functional. (The third leg is often problematic however.) With careful positioning, you can get all three legs to be flush with a flat surface. This vehicle can be piloted/controlled by three separate action figures (two in the cockpit and one of the rotating turret). In an interesting move, Hasbro designed some sort of removable “oil pan” at the bottom of it which we assume is for extra play value. The top turret also fires a projectile for additional play value. The color scheme on the AT-AP is awesome. There is Aurebesh on both opening cockpit doors. And the green paint is just the most perfect color, especially for battle on Kashyyyk. The paint job is slightly different from the 2010 version, but they’re so minimal that it’s hard to call this version a repaint. The greens are slightly lighter and the grays are slightly darker, but again, it's insignificant. Keep yours sealed.
