Commando droids land on the Rishi moon to attack a Republic outpost. Designed for surprise assaults, the droids quickly overwhelm the new clone trooper recruits stationed there. With this strategic outpost now in Separatist hands, General Grievous has everything in position to launch a surprise attack anywhere in the Outer Rim.
The
BX-series droid commando made its first appearance
in The Clone Wars episode entitled Rookies. This
droid was immediately embraced by fans and we
actually attribute it to its very familiar look
to a standard Battle Droid. Basically a Battle
Droid with a shortened muzzle and white photoreceptors,
the Commando Droid(s) played important roles
in multiple episodes. They were actually produced
to fend off the impending threats of the Jedi
against the Separatist movement, but unfortunately
they were cost-prohibitive to produce (sounds
familiar?) so this plan never came to full fruition.
However, enough were created to cause enough
havoc on a band of popular inexperienced clone
troopers including Hevy, Echo, Fives and Cutup.
It is a groundbreaking episode, because the battle
that took place during this episode was responsible
for inducting Echo and Fives into the 501st Legion.
See how the Star Wars universe comes full circle
time and again? Admittedly, we love these insignificant
tie-ins to the films. Although the episode was
a bit sappy because the clones didn't feel they
had the drive to make an impact on the war, we
find it hard to believe something like that would
come out of a clone trooper’s mouth. We
didn't see weakness in the films, so we are not
entirely sure why we are seeing it in the television
series.
Of
course, The Clone Wars is certainly
a place for character development, so we don't
mean to criticize the story, it just seems like
it was a path that we personally didn't necessarily
want to go down with Filoni. But it is a great
positive theme for the kiddies out there. We
are just saying that a slightly better part of
the storyline could have been told instead of
focusing on the clones mustering up enough courage
to fight and defend the Republic. That being
said, this episode was excellent and brought
us a great new droid. And Hasbro's interpretation
of it is flawless. Trust us when we say you are
definitely going to want to army build him. Commando
Droid has 13 points of articulation. An extra
neck joint has also been included and the droid lacks articulated wrists. It can be posed in nearly any stance due
to ball-jointed hips that work in tandem beautifully
with all of its other joints. The droid is lean and
delicate looking thanks to a thin but "muscular" frame.
He is silvery-gray with bronze highlights on
his arms and other moving points. His Super Battle
Droid-like abdomen incrementally increases in
size from the bottom up and attaches to a squared
box chest. It is an awesome character to begin
with, but Hasbro's action figure creation makes
this droid that much more likeable. It also comes
with a droid blaster that comes with a molded
plug on it that attaches fairly well to its back
when not is use shooting at clone troopers.
Commando
Droid can stand in multiple positions very well
due to multiple well-engineered designs. The
droid is extraordinarily weighty for its deceivingly
delicate frame. It looks more athletic and agile
than the best battle droid and it seems that
the Commando Droid could show them up by a landslide
in battle against the Jedi. The small frame has
solid mass which aids its center of gravity to
a very large degree. Also, you can expect this action figure to hold up very well over time. It is a safe
bet that the legs will not bow and bend over
time as a strong plastic which will hold its
state was used. And the well-proportioned body
prevents any part from pulling it down or knocking
it over. Commando Droid is overall a spectacular
all-new figure. It has completely taken us by
surprise and it is easily one of the best new
action figures in The Clone Wars line.
We are unable to find any problems or issues
with it and we are certain you will not be able
to either. Commando Droid really delivers premium
quality and everything you would come to expect
in an action figure. It will certainly impress
you in more ways than you might imagine. And
this droid is an excellent new character in The
Clone Wars action figure line. Part of a
very intriguing wave of figures, Commando Droid
will undoubtedly make a splash in your growing
collection. Check this droid out for sure. You
will be thoroughly impressed.... we promise!
