Collectors can now welcome what may be one of the most surprising additions to the Jumbo Vintage Kenner Figures line. A Star Wars action figure that was never officially released in any capacity back in 1979, the Boba Fett [Rocket Firing] Jumbo figure comes from Gentle Giant Ltd. as a very surprising yet awesome release in this line. If you own the original Boba Fett figure, you know what to expect as far as color, size and scale. There are some paint job operations revisions, nothing that noteworthy in our opinion. The big deal for the Boba Fett [Rocket Firing] Jumbo Vintage Kenner Figure is the added feature of the rocket firing projectile. Gentle Giant Ltd. retooled the jetpack to add a real functioning action feature, affectionately known as the “J hook” which can actually launch the separate rocket accessory and give Boba Fett a while new playing field of play value. It may not be thoroughly utilized in this larger scale because of its collectability, but we have to admit that it’s sure nice to see this functionality on one-sixth scale.
It’s a shame that Kenner felt under pressure to cancel the "rocket firing" feature of the original Boba Fett action figure. They were more concerned with the potential hazard of children choking on small parts so they decided before it got released that the rocket would be glued in place and the action feature would ultimately be removed from the final tooling. You should be aware of this already, but if you aren’t we will quickly explain it here. Hasbro took collectors full circle and developed the very first “Rocket Firing” Boba Fett 3.75” action figure as a mail-away exclusive for The Vintage Collection. This all-new sculpt was based on the original Rocket Firing Boba Fett prototype figure with a few other changes in addition to the completely new tooling. So it’s by default that collectors get the very first truly proportioned Boba Fett [Rocket Firing] figure in the Jumbo Vintage Kenner Figures line because these one-sixth scale interpretations are digitally scanned from the original Kenner figures. It’s a dead ringer of the 1979 release, save for the fact it has been blown up to one-sixth scale.
Aside from the paint job updates and the inclusion of the “rocket firing” feature, we have also noticed that Boba Fett has a wider stance than the regular version. Whether intentional or not, it is a great “enhancement” nonetheless because it aids him standing upright and he doesn’t fall over nearly as easily as the original release. All of the collectibles in the Jumbo Vintage Kenner Figure line are novelty figures, but the Boba Fett [Rocket Firing] figure is exceptionally novelty. It wasn’t represented in the original Kenner lineup and became somewhat of a lost legend as the years went by. With the appreciation of all things “vintage” at an all time high, it’s the perfect time for Star Wars licensees to release niche and collectible items like this for collectors to purchase unwaveringly for their collections. The Boba Fett [Rocket Firing] Jumbo Vintage Kenner Figure is a gorgeous collectible. It for everyone who is supporting the Gentle Giant Ltd. Jumbo Vintage Kenner Figures line, all Boba Fett collectors, and anyone who love Star Wars items in vintage-styled packaging. It’s a total winner for those types of folks.
