Ten years after the fight to save the Naboo from invasion, the galaxy is on the brink of civil war. Under the leadership of a renegade Jedi, thousands of solar systems threaten to secede from the Galactic Republic.
A courageous Jedi Knight, his impulsive and headstrong apprentice, and a queen-turned-senator are drawn into the heart of the conflict... and the beginning of war.
The Power Of The Jedi line abruptly ended as it reached a new peak of excellence. But Hasbro had plans to maintain the line look for four action figures based on Star Wars Episode II: Attack Of The Clones. These four figures were excellently designed and approached in ways similar to the action figures in the Power Of The Jedi line but with new precision, as they were some of the nicest sculpts seen to date. This quartet gave us a couple of leading and obscure characters from Episode II without revealing any secrets. Together, they whet the appetites of Star Wars fans everywhere. With dynamic designs and excellent sculpting, collectors were eager to see what the new toy line would bring. And if these four figures were any indication, Star Wars collectors everywhere had something to enjoy. Zam Wesell, a bounty hunter from Attack Of The Clones, was first released as a Sneak Preview figure. Though the face is disguised, Hasbro recreated a screen-accurate version of the character, which they have done excellently. Let’s look at why this figure rivals what Hasbro accomplished in the past and see how it compares to the version in the Star Wars “Saga” line, a figure released only a month after this one.
First and foremost, Zam Wesell has an incredibly wonderful sculpt. Coming with only seven points of articulation, Hasbro has pre-posed most of the body to accommodate most of the included accessories, especially the long rifle. Frankly, the design is exquisite, but it’s also limiting. Mystery and intrigue surround this bounty hunter, and the covered face makes this a provocatively exciting character from the new Star Wars film. From various teasers, we know Zam Wesell is a character that can change. (Editor’s Note: This change is what 2002’s SW [S -P1] Zam Wesell (Bounty Hunter) (’02 #18) figure focuses on, but we have to admit that the Sneak Preview version of Zam Wesell is the champion and better figure.) The sculpting of the helmet, face covering, costume, and gear is beyond incredible. We are thoroughly impressed with how beautiful the action figure looks. The paint job may rival the sculpting, too. We have always said that an excellent paint job can make or break an action figure, which applies here. Zam Wesell has a gorgeous paint job that accentuates all of the details sculpted into the action figure.
The Sneak Preview version of Zam Wesell comes with three accessories. When unused, you can place the blaster pistol in the figure’s right hand and store it in the functioning holster. It’s an all-new accessory and looks great: a nice sculpt and fantastic paint job. Zam Wesell also comes with a long (and sturdy) blaster rifle. The last accessory included is a blast effect. It nicely fits on the ends of both barrels of the included weaponry, creating a neat special effect aesthetic for the action figure. Does Zam Wesell come with incredible articulation? Can the figure sit? No, to both of those questions. But you probably won’t care because Zam Wesell from the Sneak Preview series is a stunningly sculpted action figure that looks incredible, even if it functions more like a statue than an action figure. We’re telling you the truth. Action figures rarely look this spectacular. Zam Wesell’s costume in and of itself is mind-blowing. We feel the figure can hold both of the weapons quite convincingly. So, do you need unlimited articulation? Not this time. We’ll assess that Zam Wesell is the shining star of the Power Of The Jedi Star Wars Episode II: Attack Of The Clones Sneak Preview figures wave.
