Through the creative vision of Lucasfilm Ltd. and the Cartoon Network, the Clone Wars are brought to life in an exciting new series of short animated chapters. A unique animation style captures the drama of this epic period in galactic history along with its outstanding heroes and adversaries. Noble Jedi warriors lead Clone Troopers into battle against the evil Separatist forces and their droid armies. Anakin, Obi-Wan, Yoda and their comrades struggle against the rising power of the dark side and confront personal challenges against a backdrop of war-torn planets.
Whether from the various multimedia aspects like comics and books, or from Cartoon Network’s Clone Wars animated micro-series, fans were treated to a cast of brand new characters that quickly became some of our favorite Star Wars heroes and villains of all time. Asajj Ventress was probably one of the standout new characters introduced that about the entire collecting community feel for completely. She wiped out a cast of brutes in the arena to show off her skills to Count Dooku and Darth Sidious and her stealth was like anything else we had seen to date. Many of us wished that she could somehow be added to the films in one way or another, but as it was with many of the newly introduced characters, their role in the Clone Wars was really the alpha and omega of their overall role in the Star Wars universe. That’s fine. Because sometimes a little thing goes a long way and the absence of a loved character makes the heart grow fonder for her, which in this case it does for most of us who latched onto Ms. Ventress with interest and intrigue.
We got a very nice version of Asajj Ventress based on her comics appearance in the 2003 Clone Wars line. Asajj Ventress (Sith Apprentice) (‘03 #47) was released to thunderous applause. The figure wasn’t highly articulated, but the sculpt had incredible detail and neat features which collectors adored. Now collectors are treated to the Clone Wars [Animated] version, as based on the Clone Wars micro-series on Cartoon Network, and they should be very happy with the final results. Asajj Ventress looks ripped right out of the television series, but in three-dimensional form. Her unique features like her pupil-less eyes and bald head set her apart from most other Star Wars/Clone Wars characters already familiar to us. As a result, the Asajj Ventress action figure equally stands out in the action figure line. And Hasbro was gracious to pose her in a way that really shows off her Force wielding abilities from the show. And these are details we love to see translated into the toys we buy.
Asajj Ventress comes with only minimal articulation, but Hasbro has given her enough and has many of her parts pre-posed so that the combination creates some impressive looks. For example, her left arm is at a 90 degree angle from her body, and the her arm is bent at a 90 degree angle as well. You just wouldn’t believe how awesomely she looks when holding a lightsaber. Conversely, she honestly does look a little odd holding these positions without a lightsaber in hand. We probably should mention that she actually comes with two lightsabers. With each arm in a different pose and with each hand able to accommodate a hilt, you can really pose Asajj Ventress in some very cool ways. The addition of head and waist articulation only add to the many options you can pose her additionally. The paint job is essentially flawless. The colors match the cartoon and the operations and perfectly applied cleanly and in the lines. She also comes with an action figure display stand which you can set her upon as the peg on it does the figure no good at all. We love her.
