Admiral Motti - POTF2 [FB/CT] - Basic

The senior Imperial commander in charge of operations on the original Death Star, Admiral Motti often disagreed with the decisions of Darth Vader. His outspokenness almost cost him his life when Vader used the Force to strangle the Admiral into silence.

Admiral Motti was part of the final wave of The Power Of the Force "2" figures (period) alongside Princess Leia. And as you can imagine, he was quite a chore to find at retail to purchase. A great figure despite his relative scarcity, this posthumous Admiral Motti action figure has just about as many positives as it does negatives. Perhaps Admiral Motti is more memorable in death than he is in life. After all, not many Imperial officers survive the wrath of Darth Vader’s Force chokehold. In Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, Admiral Motti was seated at the Imperial briefing table (and was subsequently choked). The action figure is able to sit because of his plastic-molded skirt While the figure can't sit, he is able to look like he is attempting to fend off the brutal attack by Darth Vader. A rarity in the POTF2 line, Hasbro added a hinge-jointed left elbow as well as a swivel left hand on Admiral Motti so that he can reach up to protect his neck. Oh, and his head sculpt has been subtly angled upwards to recreate the screen accuracy of these intense onscreen moments.

For many years, Star Wars fans believed that the Imperial uniforms were all gray. Obviously we all know better now and Hasbro ensured that they gave Admiral Motti the correct gray-green color for him. His ranking badge and other Imperial details have been molded to the torso area and overall we have to say that we’re quite pleased with the results. The likeness is pretty good actually. It definitely resembles the actor very much, especially the hairline, and although we think the body type is a little too stocky, we think this is a great modern effort on Hasbro’s part. Aside from the left arm articulation, Admiral Motti is completed with swivel articulation in the head, shoulders, waist and hips. He can stand unassisted, which is something we don’t take for granted either. It’s nice to get a new Imperial who has spoken lines in Episode IV made into an action figure. But we have to be very honest with you. It only makes us want more of them. While we want them, we’d like to see Hasbro develop a definitive body sculpt so that they can at least look, no pun intended, uniform to one another.

Admiral Motti comes with a CommTech chip. Interestingly, there is a misspelling on the back of it. Hasbro imprinted “Commander of opperations [sic] aboard the original Death Star” on the back of it. It serves as both an action figure display stand as well as serve as its own collectible, an action figure pack-in item. The CommTech chip pack-in isn’t without debate. Some collectors loved them while others found them to be a pain in the neck. We’re somewhere in the middle. They definitely have a futuristic design and they feel like something that you would find in the Star Wars universe. But between not using real lines from the film and the extra space they take up, then can be a cumbersome addition to your collection. One thing is for sure though and that is Admiral Motti is a pretty good action figure. We do hope that Hasbro continues to streamline the sculpts so that the figures don’t look as bulky. They’ve gotten better, but there is room to grow. But even so, Admiral Motti is a nice addition to the line.
