Republic forces must destroy a new droid weapons factory on Geonosis. Jedi Masters Anakin Skywalker and Luminara Unduli must plow through an army of battle droids, super battle droids and new droid super tanks. The Jedi are creating a diversion, so that their Padawans can reach the factory's main reactor and plant explosives to destroy it.
Ugh. It’s more of the same. You know are feelings all too well now. The Clone Wars DVD Sets really had so much potential, but Hasbro decided instead to pack these sets with straight repacks. As a result, the line died at Walmart when it should have been a relative success. Instead of repainted an old Clone Trooper sculpt to make an all-new character or just adding an all-new sculpted character, Hasbro went the simplest way possible and has decided to re-release figures that have already been available too many times already. They’ve also added a single episode DVD and some Galactic Battle Game parts. As you can probably imagine, The Clone Wars DVD Sets exclusive program was doomed to fail; and that’s exactly what it did. In fact, by the time we started seeing all new characters in this exclusive format, the line was well beyond any salvaging and the new sets had to be sold to discount chains instead. The graphics and packaging were beautiful and engaging. But it was the toy content that made everyone scratch his or her head. Just like it’s counterpart, the Weapons Factory (Anakin Skywalker And Super Battle Droid) (2 of 2) is another disappointing release. Hasbro thought it best to repack a figure from the 2008 The Clone Wars [Blue] line and another from The Clone Wars [Red] line. Then they made them specific to the Weapons Factory episode. It works and then doesn’t work.
The Weapons Factory (Anakin Skywalker And Super Battle Droid) (2 of 2) The Clone Wars DVD set begun multiplying on store shelves and piled up to the point where Walmart had to start putting it on sale. When all was said and done the set could be found for a couple of dollars. Walmart got sadly screwed and it was clear that this exclusive line wasn’t going to see a long life. These two-pack sets aren’t terrible, but they are pretty boring. Let’s go through why these aren’t that exciting at all. Anakin Skywalker is a slight repaint of 2008’s TCW [B] Anakin Skywalker (No. 1) figure. He comes with the same old gear but with a slightly different paint job this time around. Like other figures from this line, Anakin Skywalker has held up well the last couple of years, but it’s still in need of updated articulation. With so many sculpts made of Anakin Skywalker out there now, you’d think that Hasbro would have pulled one with more articulation or just better features. More of a display figure than an action figure, Anakin Skywalker may serve its purpose well in this set. But we still don’t think we needed to see this figure once again. If you’re into bells and whistles like extra accessories, then perhaps you’ll be able to better forgive what the actual action figure lacks. Still, it's already aging too quickly.
Admittedly, we’re more forgiving with the re-released of 2009’s TCW [R] Heavy Assault Super Battle Droid (CW11) figure. At first glance you might not realize that it’s not the original Super Battle Droid figure, but the retooled version that followed a year later. Simply called a Super Battle Droid in the Weapons Factory (Anakin Skywalker And Super Battle Droid) (2 of 2) The Clone Wars DVD Set, we actually forgot how cool of a figure this is. And it’s really the star of the set. It comes with a projectile and has a wonderful paint job. It’s held up well since its original release. Both Anakin Skywalker and the Super Battle Droid come with their original accessories, and their paint operations are similar to their respective original releases, but definitely different (here and there). The bonus here is the included DVD which features the Weapons Factory episode from Season 2. The DVD itself is gorgeous and features the main characters from the episode including s cameo of the beautiful Luminara Unduli. Also included are Galactic Battle Game cards, stands and play die. These are collectible in and of themselves and fans of the line have been enjoying gathering them all up. The Weapons Factory (Anakin Skywalker And Super Battle Droid) (2 of 2) The Clone Wars DVD Set definitely has some potential. But admittedly there just isn’t enough new here to sustain the line.
