Can-Cells are huge flying insects native to the planet Kashyyyk, homeworld of the Wookiees. The speed and mobility of the Can-Cells provide an aerial advantage in battle against the invading Separatist forces..

It seems that just by the bio on the packaging alone that the Yoda Deluxe figure from the popular Revenge Of The Sith line was really meant to be the Can-cell Deluxe figure (with Yoda for good measure). It isn’t too often that we get the beast of Star Wars in the toy line anymore. Sure, we’re not denying that Hasbro doesn’t give us any, but there seems to be so much more opportunity that they just miss because of their focus on other things. The Yoda/Can-cell Deluxe release kills two birds with one stone. We get another new beast from Star Wars Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith along with an all-new, “zen” version of Yoda. That, or he is in the middle of a yoga routine. Maybe we’ll just call him “Yoga” for short. (Wow – lots of puns intended.) Let’s talk about Yoda first. The head sculpt of Yoda is sadly one of the best in the entire Revenge Of The Sith line. This is sad because the rest of him is terrible as an action figure. That being said however, Yoda is the perfect complement to the Can-cell. They tooled and “L-shaped” hole in his bottom and there is a matching plug on the Can-cell which allows Yoda to ride the beast without falling off. He looks good riding it too.

What doesn’t make sense is that, at least from our perspective, Yoda doesn’t ride the Can-cell in Episode III. Tsui Choi does. However, there are multiple Can-cell creatures visible in Revenge Of The Sith so perhaps Yoda is indeed riding one that is just too far for any of us to make out clearly. If that’s the case, we have to almost define this releases as based on a deleted scene. You can decide however you want to describe this toy combination. The good news is that both characters are in Episode III, so both are screen accurate from that perspective. Toda comes with a swivel head, two swivel shoulders and a swivel waist. His legs are crossed and he comes with a windblown cape that is very wide. Clearly this Yoda action figure was only intended to interact with this Can-cell. They mutually exist to benefit each other. Yoda also comes with a lightsaber. He can hold it in both hands, but the right hand looks much more natural. Collectors will likely be utilizing this hand more than the left hand. Again, Yoda’s head sculpt is wonderful and we wish Hasbro would use it on a much more articulated figure that can stand and be in battle. It’s truly a shame that haven’t made the most if it yet.

The Can-cell is a beautiful creature. It looks like a hybrid of a dragonfly and regular housefly. It is colored is light maroon, purple, green and other bright colors which really makes it steal the show in this Deluxe set. It is well-articulated as well. It has a swivel head, six swivel legs and a bendy tail. It can stand unassisted, but the legs are rather flimsy and will bow over time. It also doesn’t have a good center of gravity at all which does make it frustrating to stand sometimes. It is possible however to do this. The key is getting the last set of legs to touch the ground for balance. The wings flap with the movement of it s long tail. It is a cool feature perhaps, but most importantly it doesn’t affect the aesthetics of the creature. The plug for Yoda is more distracting than that. The wings are huge and almost overwhelming. No wonder these bugs can fly so well! All are removable and can be added and removed as needed. It’s important to note that each wing is unique and must be placed on a certain plug in order for the best wing display. So pay attention to that detail. The Yoda Deluxe figure is definitely a nice set. Most will buy it for the Can-cell, but we imagine many customizers may want to use this Yoda head sculpt for bigger puposes.
