Despite all that she has endured and lost in a lifetime of war, General Leia Organa continues to shine as a beacon of hope for the loyal soldiers of the Resistance under her command.
Why does it feel like Force Friday II (2017) is like a wash, rinse and repeat of Force Friday (2015)? Hasbro has added quite a few The Black Series [Phase III] 6” figures based on characters from Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens into the first couple of waves beginning in 2017 when it seems that every slot should be saved for new Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi characters instead. It’s not really a criticism. It’s more of we’re perplexed on why every last slot hasn’t been reserved for new Star Wars Entertainment. That being said, General Leia Organa is a long-awaited figure for the 6” line. Much like Luke Skywalker, fans have been desperate to add these classic Star Wars characters based on their modern roles, outfits and likenesses to their collections. Believe it or not, while imperfect, General Leia Organa shows that Hasbro has indeed done a faithful likeness to General Leia Organa and aside from some deco changes and lack of accessories, she should meet most of everyone’s expectations in The Black Series [Phase III] 6” line. Like so many other 6” figures before her, General Leia Organa comes with a ton of articulation, a wonderful sculpt and an unacceptable amount of accessories that is really beginning to affect the perceived value of a figures that retails in the $19.99-$21.99 range. Let’s take a look at how well General Leia Organa succeeds as an action figure.
Our sample looks better than average in our opinion. Certainly imperfections exist with the paint operations. Her eyes could be done better. Her eyebrows could be more even. And her lips could be applied a little more straightly on her face. But overall General Leia Organa meets our expectations for a human character until Hasbro works in that new photo likeness technology into the figures. General Leia Organa is an all-new figure and Hasbro has studied the reference materials clearly to make the best figure possible with the current limitations they have when it comes to deco. We certainly hold them to high standards, but General Leia Organa may be the best she can be until they elevate how fine deco like facial features are applied. That being said, General Leia Organa hairstyle and hairline have been painted beautifully and details like her removable vest and jumpsuit have texture and layering that really makes them look pretty darn real. Because of her removable vest, you can create different looks for General Leia Organa. This is something we have always appreciated in the Star Wars toy line. She also have an incredible articulation system thanks to premium ball-jointed articulation and movable parts that enhance her greatly. She is nicely scaled to other human characters in the line. We think Hasbro did a great job in this area too. And she especially looks fantastic next to 2016's TBS [P3] Han Solo (18) figure.
Aside from the removable vest, General Leia Organa only comes with a blaster pistol, and it looks exactly like the one she used in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. She is able to hold it well and looks rather impressive when aiming it or running with it thanks to the incredible sculpt and a perfect center of gravity which allows her to freely be posed. It will be interesting to see General Leia Organa in Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi and see if she dons this exact outfit again. We have already seen one outfit of hers, but it was represented on a simply articulated action figure from the Star Wars [The Last Jedi] basic figure line. Fans are likely going to want to see any new outfits from the new film get added to The Black Series 6” line. Hopefully this will come to pass so that everyone is happy. We really don’t have any complaints for General Leia Organa. Again, we’d like to reiterate that we don’t think she is perfect. But we’re pretty sure that aside from a few deco issues that fans of the 6” scale will be satisfied with what Hasbro has done with her. Hasbro has stated time and again that it feels like they’re continually playing catch-up so we’ll probably continue to see years-long delays with some expected characters. Hopefully the wait list doesn’t back-up to the point of clogging the line. Either way, you should find some time to enjoy General Leia Organa.
