All different types of Astromech droids populate the Star Wars galaxy. Each droid is different and has their [sic] own unique personality and colors. These Resistance droids are assigned to the main cruiser of the embattled Resistance forces.
May the Force be with you.... and your Droids!
Religiously now, Disney Parks have released multiple droids across different types of packaging to commemorate their appearance in the latest new Disney Star Wars Entertainment. This trend began with The Force Awakens, continued through Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and now proceeds with Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi. Disney Parks has truly made the most out of their Droid Factory sculpts. This may be one of the most cost-effective toy lines Star Wars collector has ever seen. There are very few unique parts required to assemble these different types of droids, and with some unique paint operations, they can create an infinite supply of these characters that populate the Star Wars universe everywhere. There is literally no end in sight for the Droid Factory line and as fans of astromechs, this excites us very much. For Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi, Disney Parks has assembled and astromech droid two-pack which includes R4-X2, an R4-series astromech droid and Y5-X2, an R5-series astromech droid.
Both droids, save for their domes, look identical to each other. In fact, they are identical from the body down. Described as droids of the Resistance, we don’t know at this point if they are just “in the background” of a random shot or if they have some important role in the film. Based on previous releases for new Disney Star Wars Entertainment, we believe that these two characters will be nearly impossible to find in Episode 8. Because both droids are essentially the same form the body down, Disney Parks spent some time to ensure that the deco on their differently shaped domes was incredibly unique to one another. R4-X2 looks a great deal like R4-M9 from A New Hope (but obviously painted in a different color) while Y5-X2 looks a whole lot like many Original Trilogy R5 units seen throughout the Star Wars timeline. R4-X2 has a Rebel Alliance/Resistance symbol painted on its dome and it adds to the character of this figure nicely. You certainly know where this character stands. Y5-X2 comes off a little more independent.
Together they form a nice pair of astromech droids. It would make sense if they’re part of the same team or battalion of soldiers since they look so much like each other. Their bodies are green with black, white and silver details accenting the complex sculpts of their barrel-shaped bodies. The paint operations are clean for the most parts and you can interchange the parts if you’re so inclined. However, the only differing parts between them are their domes so interchanging parts with these two droids will prove futile. As you know, all astromech Droid Factory figures break down into five separate pieces. These include a dome, body, two identical legs, and a third leg. All Droid Factory astromech droids also come with eight points of articulation when fully assembled. These articulation points include a swivel dome, two swivel legs, two hinge-jointed ankles and three rolling wheels (one on each foot). These figures come with a decent amount of movement which makes them viable figures for your collection.
