The shadowy commander of the First Order, Supreme Leader Snoke prefer to operate from a distance, looming over his underlings in the form of an immense hologram. As the First Order rallies, this master of the Dark Side emerges from the shadows to seize victory.
Yeah, we know it’s all about the Sequel Trilogy right now, but wouldn’t it be a breath of fresh air to get the same treatment for a character based on the Original Trilogy as we did for Supreme Leader Snoke (Throne Room). This Emperor Palpatine redo for the Sequel Trilogy is probably cooler than we realize at the moment, but right now he looks like a bad parody of Hugh Hefner who sits atop a grand throne chair dictating what is going to happen next with the First Order. There are also many questions about the character. Why is Kylo Ren loyal to him? Why does the First Order bow to Snoke? Why is history repeating itself 30 years later in the Star Wars timeline? We’re not exactly sure, but from a toy perspective, we can confirm that the GameStop exclusive Supreme Leader Snoke (Throne Room) figure set is done very nicely and should be a highlight of all the toys produced for Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi. His throne is well-sculpted, and Snoke himself has been given some incredible attention in both sculpt, deco and smart use of premium soft-goods. This set delivers a nice environmental piece from Episode VIII, and it’s nice to see Hasbro thinking outside of the box when they make these types of exclusives for The Black Series [Phase III] 6” line. What’s more, Supreme Leader Snoke (Throne Room) interconnects with the Walmart exclusive Kylo Ren (Throne Room) piece and collectors will be able to set up a very cool diorama with both pieces. Add in some Elite Praetorian Guards, and you’re able to do a Sequel Trilogy take on Emperor Palpatine’s Death Star II throne room from Star Wars Episode VI: Return Of The Jedi.
Supreme Leader Snoke (Throne Room) will be available without the throne in the basic The Black Series [Phase III] line. Hasbro is notorious for releasing a “deluxe” version of many figures first and then releasing a simple basic version after. It’s their way of double-dipping and making the most out of their sculpts. Supreme Leader Snoke (Throne Room) is a decent looking action figure. He comes with the standard 28 points of articulation that allow him to freely sit on his throne unencumbered and look good doing so. His wrists are ball-jointed, and this is very important for how you can pose them resting on the arms of his throne. It looks extremely realistic, and he truly appears that he is relaxed and commanding from afar. He comes with an ornate soft-goods robe, but it isn’t fully removable. It's instead glued into place at the top of his shoulders/back. You can still open up to reveal a strange white outfit underneath of it, but ultimately it really cannot be considered a separate accessory because of its inability to be fully removed. His long-hanging belt, however, is removable and it too has been beautifully sculpted. It has some flexibility and doesn’t interrupt his sitting poses which is great in our opinion. Supreme Leader Snoke (Throne Room) comes with a stunning portrait. And the paint operations are splendid as well. The coloring to show his wounds is odd. The deco on his face almost looks as if he has port-wine stains, or vascular malformations, on his face, but if you look at any still of the character that Disney has approved for release so far, it doesn’t appear as if they are this pronounced (or event present) on his face. Still, his scarring is gross, and, Hasbro did a great job at capturing this character’s eeriness.
His golden slippers are a riot and it’s hard to take a character like this seriously. They look like Dorothy’s slippers from The Wizard Of Oz in a different color (and even Dorothy's slippers were originally silver in the books so we’re not too far away from that with Snoke’s gold one). Supreme Leader Snoke (Throne Room)’s throne actually comes as two separate pieces. The footrest easily attached to the bottom center of his throne and then it is fully assembled once this is completed. This pentagonal-shaped separate piece is the part that attaches to the areas created when Kylo Ren (Throne Room)’s base is connected to it. Once fully assembled you have a large display area which allows space for the addition of extra 6” figures like the Elite Praetorian Guard (50) figure and Kylo Ren (Throne Room). The throne is very impressive by itself too. It is very, very large. The plastic is a bit too shiny for our tastes, but it feels like a very durable accessory, and it also feels that it is appropriately scaled for the Supreme Leader Snoke (Throne Room) action figure. Even the seat of the throne has been cast in a differently textured type of plastic which gives it a cushiony feel. Hasbro worked in every last detail they could here and 6” fans are going to be thrilled with the results. Admittedly, the complete setup is impressive. We’d be lying if we claimed we’re not a bit envious that we don’t have something similar from the Original Trilogy yet. But those who are eager for The Last Jedi, well, you should count your blessings because Hasbro doesn’t do things of this grand scale all that often for collectors. This is a real treat for certain. Let’s hope his character impresses us in the film this December.
