With the power of the Force awakening inside of her, Rey travels to the hidden world of Ahch-To. There, she seeks out Luke Skywalker as the last hope of the Resistance.
*thunderous applause* On October 8, 2014 JTA revealed a rumor straight out of Hasbro’s mouth that the collecting community could expect a Clone Captain Rex in The Black Series 6” line. In retrospect, it’s difficult to comprehend why it took so long for this figure release to see the light of day. But they ultimately must have been proud of the figure as they released it as their very first Star Wars HASCON exclusive. Manufactured before their “photorealistic” technology had gone into effect, Hasbro promised that we would see the figure released in the basic line, sans some very important accessories, with this updated deco upgrade. So, here we are in 2018, and that promise has been turned into reality. Clone Captain Rex gets boxed in red and black packaging and adding to the long-running The Black Series [Phase III] 6” line, and we’re happy to report that this version supersedes the exclusive version by a landslide. Accepting that the final result of “photorealistic” technology leaves an impression of some fuzziness (when viewed larger than what the human eye sees) isn’t far off the mark, at the same time it provides a form of clarity because this new application gives them unprecedented likenesses. It’s like some irony that “fuzziness” brings “clarity” but it does. Clone Captain Rex has turned out remarkably well. We’re thrilled with what was done for this figure. These aspects include the paint operations, the attention to detail, the realistic interpretation of the face sculpt, and the smart reuse of existing parts. These pieces all work together to make an incredibly “screen accurate” version of everyone’s favorite clone captain from the beloved The Clone Wars television show.
It feels like Hasbro held back on this version of the figure as they didn’t include all of his major weapons. They omitted the DC-15 blaster and DC-15 blaster rifle which borders on painful for us. It’s not like we don’t have these weapons already to give this figure, but why not include them in the regular release as well as the exclusive version? These are standard weapons that Clone Captain Rex used throughout the entire The Clone Wars series, so we’re disappointed that they couldn’t waste a few extra cents and just include them here too. Other than that, we’re quite happy with what has been included in this release. Clone Captain Rex comes with a removable (with articulated rangefinder) and a permanent pauldron (so that it stays in place with movement) to show his elite ranking as a captain. We’re happy it doesn’t fly around and move when the figure is articulated. It’s nice that it stays in place. With awesome proportions and wonderfully premium soft-goods for the kama to create optimal movement, Clone Captain Rex is sure to be a hit with all 6” collectors. If you collect this line, you should own this figure. Getting Clone Captain Rex is a fantastic thing, but when will Hasbro give us the rest of the characters from this incredible television show? In our opinion, a figure like Clone Captain Rex needs to be a consistent thing in The Black Series 6” line. These should not be one-off characters released here and there. So many Star Wars collectors adore The Clone Wars, and getting beautiful realistically interpreted versions of them in this scale is a satisfying thing.
Originally based on 2014’s TBS [P1] Clone Trooper (#14) figure, Clone Captain Rex comes with an amazing 30 points of articulation across 19 points of articulation. The inclusion of swivel biceps and hips in addition to double hinge-jointed elbows and knees gives Clone Captain Rex a significant advantage in flexibility and movement over so many other figures in The Black Series 6” line. We wish that Hasbro was this generous with other figures in this line with these hyper-articulated bodies. Although Hasbro took most of the 2014 TBS [P1] Clone Trooper (#14) figure, they tooled an all-new torso. It’s almost identical to the original figure’s torso, but a quick side by side comparison will show you clearly that they differ. Hasbro has glued a permanent pauldron to the new torso. As we have mentioned earlier, we’re happy they did this although initially, we had reservations about it. It makes for a clean action figure that is neat and tidy and not unkempt. Hasbro also tooled a new belt/holster combination piece which houses his two DC-17 blaster pistols when not in use. They fit perfectly in their holsters. The belt also fits tightly around his waist, so it doesn’t flop all over the place when you try to pose him. And the soft-good kama is just wonderful. We love that Hasbro did this for this figure. There is so much to be happy about with this revised Clone Captain Rex. Both versions are fantastic, but getting one with beautiful paint operation in the face is just a wonderful blessing. This figure is so good her looks like a scaled down Captain Rex [CC-7567] (501st Legion: Torrent Company) 1:6 Scale Figure.
