The Disney Store is proud to introduce the Star Wars Toybox range of action figures, bringing adventures to life with characters from across The Walt Disney Company.
The Star Wars Toybox line is impressing us. While the style of them is not every collector’s taste, no one can deny that these figures are designed with precision and care. We find it interesting that an animated-style line of figure would be given such incredible articulation. As a Disney Store item, the figures haven’t been designed for the Star Wars collecting audience, but for younger fans. Collectors are the first group of people we think about when appreciating this line. When you analyze the sculpting detail of all of the figures in this line, you’ll find that action figure making has reached a raised bar. The Star Wars Toybox line easily leaps over that bar as it provides high-quality action figures paired with exquisite accessories and paint jobs that should satisfy the most stringent collectors. Luke Skywalker from A New Hope makes up one of three figures in the second wave of Star Wars Toybox figures. Like the figures before him, Luke Skywalker is another impressive release. Based on the style of the characters from Disney Infinity, Luke Skywalker nevertheless captures the spirit and style of his onscreen counterpart while opening a whole other world of adventure thanks to the play value the animated style this action figure brings to one’s collection.
Luke Skywalker comes with an amazing 27 points of articulation. Many of these articulation points are premium quality and are ball-jointed. This allows for a range of motion that cannot be achieved with single plane swivel articulation. Thanks to ball-socket hips, Luke Skywalker can attain some pretty cool action poses. And the creators of this figure thought ahead and ensured that his shoulders could move with enough range of motion so that he can hold the included lightsaber with two hands. The bottom of his shirt (and perhaps the droid caller too) moderately inhibit the full range of motion the legs seemingly should possess, but you still get enough required movement, and we believe collectors will be happy with what this figure brings to the table. The feet on the Star Wars Toybox figures are wide and large, but as you might imagine they anchor the figure by providing balance and resisting gravity’s pull. This is because the feet provide a large surface areas footprint (pun intended) which gives the figure the balance it needs to remain displayed on your shelf or anywhere else in your collection. Whether standing, running or wielding a lightsaber, Luke Skywalker is a pure pleasure to have in your Star Wars action figure collection.
Most of the figures in the Star Wars Toybox line come with one accessory. Very few exceptions to this exist, and most do not deviate from this format. We would love to see separate hilts in addition to fully lit lightsabers, but we can’t see this happening in this line since it’s geared for kids. Kids do love accessories, but the less there is to lose, the better it is for everyone involved (parents, Disney Store, etc.). We’re thoroughly impressed with Luke Skywalker’s paint operations. We accept the fact that his outfit from A New Hope is straightforward and muted in color, but Disney Store accurately captured his likeness (even in animated form). We feel they’ve done a stellar job at accomplishing this. Where other licensees tend to fail miserably with accurate hair color, Disney matched it perfectly right out of the gate. We don’t think there is a closer match to Luke’s actual hair color than this figure. His blue eyes also shine through nicely. And the metal details around his belt look fantastic. Overall, Luke Skywalker may not be as colorful as Boba Fett or as menacing as Darth Vader in this line, but he turned out incredibly well. We hope there is a strong positive reception for this line because we’d love to see it continue for years. There are so many characters to get to in this line.
