When you think about actor Woody Harrelson, it’s a bit difficult to think of him outside the many quirky roles he’s portrayed throughout the years. From Will & Grace to Cheers, from The Cowboy Way to White Men Can’t Jump, Woody Harrelson has acted in roles that make it hard to take him seriously. He’s acted in many more film and television roles than the four cited above, but the examples listed provide evidence that he has portrayed more than one goofball in his time as an actor. For these reasons, there were some concerns about his ability to pull off a Star Wars character. There were some skeptics, but others were thrilled when Woody Harrelson took on the character Tobias Beckett. The character worked extremely well onscreen and was an integral part of Solo: A Star Wars Story. He was a type of “Han Solo” character himself, and it made sense after the fact why he was such a great choice for the movie. Hasbro developed an excellent interpretation of this figure for their popular The Black Series [Phase III] 6” line. It has captured our affection immediately, and Hasbro should be proud of the effort they put into the figure. He turned out incredibly well.

Tobias Beckett turned out to be one of the most interesting Star Wars characters in a long time. He was liked by audiences, and the twists of his loyalties made Solo: A Star Wars Story an intensely interesting film. The Black Series [Phase III] 6” figure is a success just like the onscreen character. Hasbro has tooled a stunningly beautiful sculpt that favors actor Woody Harrelson perfectly. It’s easy to thank “photorealistic” technology on making a figure look as good as it does, but that would shortchange the skill Hasbro has integrated into the figure to make it as excellent as it is. Again, the likeness of the figure is unreal. Hasbro has come so far in their approach, and it’s rewarding to see such satisfying results. The goodness extends beyond Tobias Beckett’s likeness, however. The rest of the figure is tooled with precision and accuracy and captures the spirit of the character very nicely. He comes with a trench coat, but it’s tooled in a manner that is open so you can see the rest of his costume inside of it. What’s more, the shape of its sculpting doesn’t completely inhibit the posing of the figure. Sometimes molded clothing is detrimental to a figure’s articulation system. This isn’t the case here at all.

With a fantastic head sculpt and a brilliant costume design and articulation system, Tobias Beckett succeeds as an addition to The Black Series [Phase III] 6” line. He comes moderately accessorized. The trench coat shell is removable. He comes with two blasters, but each is unique from the other. The belt and holster accommodate both of them and the straps that hold them in place function wonderfully. His hands are molded to accept the blasters. And when you take the time to pose him in unique and interesting ways, the figure truly comes to life. The paint operations for the rest of the figure are applied very nicely too. Collectors of 6” figures are going to be happy with how this figure turned out. Tobias Beckett is another great addition to The Black Series [Phase III] 6” line. It’s great to see Hasbro focusing on characters from the latest Star Wars Entertainment like Solo: A Star Wars Story. It’s a shame the film didn’t perform up to expectations because Hasbro is making some great action figures in support of the film. As long as they keep a heavy rotation of Original Trilogy figures in the line along with the new stuff, we think they can keep the momentum going for this for the foreseeable future with relative ease.
