Rebel Commander

General Analysis

When it comes to the many “generic” human characters in the vintage Kenner line, it’s hard to tell who they are intended to be. The actors represented on the card back have often not matched the action figure in the packaging. I have felt strongly for years that the Rebel Commander is the standard Hoth Rebel Trooper, and I have met fellow fans that have agreed with me or completely disagreed. When looking at the card back image, it’s easy to see who the action figure is supposed to be, but the figure has a mustache, a feature that the character from the film doesn’t have. It’s incredible to me how much confusion the Kenner line can cause. The Rebel Commander is an essential action figure especially if you’re looking to create a nice army of Echo Base soldiers. But he is also an excellent character for your Battle of Hoth displays. I loved how you could position his strapped blaster rifle on his shoulders when not in use. And the expression on his face always confirmed he was a calm, cool and collected character from THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK. The Rebel Commander is an essential figure, but I don’t think he’s going to top many collectors’ favorites lists.
