After we all utilized Rebel Soldier (Hoth Battle Gear) as our Luke Skywalker (Hoth Battle Gear) figure when we were little kids, did any of us pay much attention to this classic 1982 action figure when it was released? Of course, we did. Luke Skywalker (Hoth Battle Gear) arrived way too late in the line and will go down in history as one of the most untimely action figures of all time. Perhaps to create a diverse line, or maybe to hide movie secrets, Luke Skywalker (Hoth Battle Gear) was reserved for the final series of THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK Kenner mini action figures. Luke Skywalker (Hoth Battle Gear) doesn’t bring all that much new to the Kenner line, but it was a unique type of figure because it was part “action pose” and Kenner etched more detail into him than past figures in the line. Looking at the crinkles in his outfit with the waffle pattern on his vest only confirms that Kenner went above and beyond with this interpretation of Luke Skywalker. The figure also came with a strapped blaster rifle, something the character didn’t use in the film. Also missing here is Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber. (They should have used the one from Luke Skywalker (Bespin Fatigues) and included it here too. Luke Skywalker (Hoth Battle Gear) looks fantastic on the Tauntaun and fleshing out any Hoth inspired display we created as kids and adults. Trivia lovers may like to know that this figure was called Luke Skywalker (Hoth Outfit) in some packaging in Canada.
