The elite Wing Guard is in charge of security on Cloud City, working as police officers, customs officials, and crisis controllers. Troopers such as Utris M'Toc and Sergeant Edian handle these crucial duties with honesty and efficiency.
Would
it sound too sarcastic if we exclaimed how
happy we are that we actually got another running
change in the basic figure line successfully?
After years and years of getting variants into
the without issue (since the Power Of The
Jedi line)
Hasbro's factories went haywire starting with The Legacy Collection's Hoth
Rebel Trooper (BD 42) variation. And then the Ugnaught. And
then the Imperial Scanning Crew. And then the
Utai. We honestly don't know why it is has
become a chronic issue when it was so successful
years ago. It is a plus that Hasbro has confirmed
the variant Hoth Rebel Trooper is coming in
an exclusive Battle Packs set in 2010. When
we found out that their was going to be a running
chnage on the Cloud City Wing Guard, none of
us held our breath. We just wanted to know which one was coming as we had no faith
that we would see both. In fact, a Q & A session
with Hasbro misinformed us that Utris M'Toc
was canceled too, but at the time Adam
May from Galactic
Hunter was able to cull information from his
sources and got direct word from Derryl DePriest
that Utris M'Toc was NOT canceled and was
indeed coming in the last wave of the Legacy
Collection.
The
interesting thing is that in our opinion, Hasbro
sacrficed a perfect opportunity to get all of
the running chnages out at once. Instead of including
the Hoth Rebel Trooper, the Imperial Scanning
Crew and the second Utai, they decided to repack
figures like Chewbacca
(BD31), R2-D2
(BD29), Darth
Maul (BD05), Obi-Wan
Kenobi (BD06) and Luke
Skywalker (BD16) instead. We know that
core characters need to keep shipping, but we
thought this was an ample opprtunity to get the
unreleased figures out. But instead of complaining
about what figures didn't make it out, we are
thrilled that Utris M'Toc did. Hailing from a
deleted scene from The Empire Strikes Back, he
joins the ranks of The Legacy Collection's 2008 Han
Solo (BD 1), Luke
Skywalker (BD 2), Chewbacca
(BD 3) and even Bane
Malar (BD 7) as figures
that almost made it into the film but were left
on the cutting room floor. His bio on Wookieepedia
is brief, but we do know that he wasn't too fond
of Sergeant Merril. His species is Imzig and
we haven't seen this species in the films since.
It appears that Utris M'Toc is the sole Star
Wars character from this lineage. Since
you already have the first Cloud
City Wing Guard [Sergeant Edian], you know
what to expect for articulations and sculpt.
This time aound of course the figure has a new
head and hands cast in a beige flesh tone.
His
neck has also been repainted to match the new
portrait. We think there is way too much blue
contrast in his face. In fact, we barely see
any blue highlights in the character's face in
some stills we were able to locate. The samples
we have seen vary dramatically in the heaviness
of blue color used in the face. The particular
sample in the photos in this review has a face
covered in this blue highlight. We have seen
many other samples with a lot less. Collectors
may be interested to know that out initial theory
of Sergeant Edian may be true. Whether or not
there were two different caps created for the
two Cloud City Wing Guards is something that
we will probably never be able to answer. But
it is a fact that both caps from Sergeant Edian
and the one that belongs to Utris M'Toc fits much better on Utris M'Toc's
head than Edian's head. While it's not a perfect
match for M'Toc, it fits better on him than
Edian's does on his. (Editor's Note: We have found a running change with Sergeant Edian's cap that fits his head much better now.) We think this may be
a potential goof by Hasbro. (Maybe Edian's cap
never made it into the packaging.) Utris M'Toc
is an awesome Bespin Security Guard for your
collections. But we need a lot more for variety
and army building. We have the definitive sculpt
so it is up to Hasbro to crank them out.
