Celebrate the legacy of Star Wars, the action-and-adventure-packed space saga from a galaxy far, far away, with this collection of premium, highly-detailed 3.75-inch scale figures and vehicles. (Each sold separately. Subject to availability.)
When you look back at the many poor choices Hasbro made with regards to repacked Disney Star Wars characters, you have to wonder why it took them four waves to get out one of the most highly sought-after 3.75” super-articulated Walmart exclusive figures. The incorrectly named Scarif Stormtrooper Squad Leader finally gets a corrected name and placed in stunning The Vintage Collection packaging. The figure is a slight repaint of the original 2016 release, and the “dirt” spots appear to be the most noticeable differences that set the two versions apart. Right now, 3.75” super-articulated collectors don’t have a “squad leader” to oversee their armies of these Imperial troopers, but hopefully, Hasbro will get smart and release a running change of the Scarif Stormtrooper Squad Leader character whenever they decide to repack this figure instead. It would make a nice addition to The Vintage Collection. If you’re desperate for one, you can defer to 2016’s RO Moroff/Scarif Stormtrooper Squad Leader Two-Pack set and use that figure if you wish in the meantime. Collectors should fall head over heels for the Scarif Stormtrooper, a figure that was mercilessly difficult to find at Walmart, but now looks better than ever in The Vintage Collection. We’d like to reiterate: If wave 20 of The Vintage Collection was the wave that relaunched this line, we feel the collection would be in a much healthier place right now.
Maybe it's easy to get excited over troopers more than other characters, but this one feels worlds above what Hasbro has released in the recent past. The Scarif Stormtrooper has everything fans of super-articulated 3.75” collecting adore: fantastic articulation, brilliant paint operations, and a sculpt that is better than you might believe is possible. But this trio of goodness works together seamlessly here. It also proves to us how much time and energy Hasbro is wasting focusing on things that collectors don’t want. If they’re able to make incredible classically-scaled action figures in the original 3.75” scale look this great, then they should be focusing on it. We’ll pay full retail for these, no bones about it. The Scarif Stormtrooper is truly a work of art. While it contains many pieces of bulky armor, the figure possesses functionality that allows a wide array of poses. Loaded with 29 points of articulation, Hasbro has been enhancing 3.75” figures with swivel thighs which add even more movement to already well-articulated action figures. Aside from the swivel thighs and the ball-socket head, the rest of the Scarif Stormtrooper has been given ball-jointed articulation. This includes the wrists and hips; two areas that often don’t receive this premium articulation. The Scarif Stormtrooper can achieve pretty much any pose you desire.
How about that deco? Well, we’re pleased with the extraordinary paint operations this figure has received. It may appear odd to some newer fans, but we are pleased with the final results. For years we’d complain how the clone troopers and stormtroopers look too clean and white. Hasbro would rarely give these action figures dirt or wear on their armor parts. This final deco was always part of the final touches of an action figure in most Hasbro Star Wars lines. For instance, the browns are lighter. And the base armor is a tad more yellow. But the figure looks as good as it also has. Admittedly, the approach is different now. Instead of a final wash, the battle-damage and dirt now look like it has been applied in a “halftoning” fashion. In high-resolution photography, it looks pronounced (and sometimes a bit contrived), almost like newspaper print. But when looking at the figures with human eyes, they look fantastic. That’s where we’re at with the Scarif Stormtrooper. The figure looks outstanding, even with this newly applied deco for dirt and battle wear. First and foremost, the Scarif Stormtrooper’s base paint job is astounding. The lines are super clean and the applications have been beautifully added. And what is better than Having a figure housed in vintage Kenner inspired packaging? You get that as the final touch!
