Virtually indistinguishable from one another, clone troopers are identical in physical appearance, mental capability and stamina. Part of a clone army, they are grown in the cloning facilities of Tipoca city, a luminescent city of industry emerging from the raging seas of Kamino.
Although clone troopers share the same modified genetic code, their genetic structure has been altered to make them less independent than their genetic host, and their growth has been accelerated to twice the normal rate of a human. Grown and trained specifically for military combat, the clone army was mysteriously commissioned ten years earlier.
Everything changed for collectors in 2005 when the Clone Trooper Troop Builder 4-Pack sets released in The Original Trilogy Collection line look. For almost two years, collectors desperately waited for Hasbro to allow us to army build the super-articulated Clone Trooper sculpt that they first released in 2003’s Clone Wars line as Clone Trooper (’03 #50). The Clone Trooper figure came with 23 points of articulation, a dynamic sculpt and superb details and was the perfect candidate to serve as a template for all other clones from Star Wars Episode II: Attack Of The Clones. Hasbro commissioned four unique sets of Clone Troopers for Entertainment Earth. The sets were sold both individually and as a packaged set, but regardless of how you purchased them, you paid $34.99 per each four-pack. The Star Wars collecting community rejoiced when Entertainment Earth shipped out the Clone Trooper Troop Builder 4-Pack sets. Not only did we get the infantry Clone Trooper and all four Clone Trooper Officers, we also received “battle-damaged” versions of all of them too, which allowed collectors to develop an Army of the Republic unlike ever before their release. The sets exceeded expectations and were described as a slam-dunk hit out of the park for Entertainment Earth, with reorders selling out multiple times until finally discontinued at the end of 2005.
The first set is labeled as Clone Trooper Troop Builder 4-Pack [White Without Battle Damage]. All of the figures in this set are all-white Clone Troopers and are indistinguishable from each other. The Clone Trooper Troop Builder 4-Pack [White With Battle Damage] set includes four uniquely decorated Clone Troopers each sporting some carbon-scoring marks on their armor, in different spots on each figure. All of the Clone Troopers in this set are all-white as well. The Clone Trooper Troop Builder 4-Pack [Colored Without Battle Damage] contains one of each of all four Clone Trooper Officers including a Clone Trooper Sergeant (green color flashes), a Clone Trooper Captain (red color flashes), a Clone Trooper Commander (yellow color flashes) and a Clone Trooper Lieutenant (blue color flashes). We waited a long time to receive super-articulated versions of the Clone Trooper Officers, so this set is a wonderful addition to the basic figure line. The last set, Clone Trooper Troop Builder 4-Pack [Colored With Battle Damage] is the same as the latter set, but these Clone Trooper Officers contain random blaster damage on their armor (different on every figure). Each set has a unique Assortment number, but they all share the same UPC. They also came in a white self-shipper box for extra protection. Hasbro and Entertainment Earth worked through the best way to get these into collectors’ hands.
The Clone Troopers featured in the four-packs are retools and repaints of 2003’s Clone Wars Clone Trooper (’03 #50) figure. This is so because these Clone Troopers and Clone Trooper Officer have peg holes on the bottoms of their feet. The original 2003 figure did not have peg holes. The addition of peg holes on the clones featured in these sets made collectors very happy. They could now be displayed securely in various displays, like Republic Gunships and the like. The Clone Trooper Troop Builder 4-Packs signaled to collectors that Hasbro was fervently listening to their pleas. And collectors followed through and supported this exclusive. It was a perfectly balanced and mutual transaction between Hasbro and Star Wars fans. While not everyone is into Star Wars Episode II: Attack Of The Clones as a film, most everyone is into Clone Trooper action figures. That’s why these sets sold so well. Packaged in noncommittal The Original Trilogy Collection inspired packaging (although without the official OTC logo), the Clone Trooper Troop Builder 4-Packs also came packaged with an exclusive poster, supposedly showing the figures in the set in action scene. But interestingly, the figures featured in the poster were different sculpts and were never subsequently released. It doesn’t matter of course, because the super-articulated version of the Clone Trooper beats all other sculpts.
