As a senior member of the Jedi Council, Mace Windu tests young Anakin's aptitude in the Jedi temple on Coruscant.
Star Wars fans were delighted when it was announced that Samuel L. Jackson would play a major role in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace as Jedi Master Mace Windu. Because of his popularity, Star Wars collectors were eager to see what toys Hasbro would produce based on his character. Hasbro was wise, and Mace Windu was chosen as one of the “Episode I Sneak Preview” items released during The Power Of The Force “2” [FlashBack/CommTech] line to help brew interest in the upcoming line. However, when it came to the Action Collection line, Mace Windu wasn’t at the top of Hasbro’s parking lot list, and we didn’t see the character added to this sub-line until a year later. But perhaps the wait was worth it because Mace Windu turned out to be one of the best-looking Action Collection figures Hasbro produced for Episode I line. With an unprecedented likeness and premium soft-goods, Mace Windu exceeded our expectations for the character, and we imagine he will exceed yours as well.
When it comes to human likenesses in the Action Collection 12 Inch Figures line, they can be hit or miss. It’s a difficult task to covert flesh and blood into a small-scaled plastic model, but Hasbro seems to have consistent success each time they attempt a new character. But Mace Windu turned out better than most of their previous human likenesses. Whether it’s the simplicity of Mace Windu’s bald head or the innate characteristics that are easily translated from human being to plastic toy, the Mace Windu Action Collection figure looks fantastic. Hasbro also utilized premium soft-goods to adorn Mace Windu. The outer robe is plusher and significantly softer than most other Jedi outer robes we’ve seen added to the line thus far. When you inspect the fabric, you’ll find a terrycloth-like texture on the underside of the material. The quality of the fabric also allows for a natural drape on the figure. For example, the hood naturally falls as it does in the film. You don’t need to futz with it to make it sit on his head as a “real” hood would. It’s effortless.
As far as accessories are concerned, Mace Windu doesn’t come with many. Hasbro followed through with the 3.75” release and gave Mace Windu a blue-bladed lightsaber. He doesn’t utilize a lightsaber in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, but it’s nice to have something that will interact with the figure. (Editor’s Note: We learn in Star Wars Episode II: Attack Of The Clones that Mace Windu’s lightsaber blade is purple.) Like all 12 Inch Figures in the Action Collection line, Mace Windu’s lightsaber breaks down in lightsaber hilt and lightsaber blade. Sadly, there is no place available on his belt to hang the lightsaber hilt when not in use, yet the lightsaber hilt has a plug which is there to plug somewhere onto the belt. Aside from his outfit, Mace Windu comes with nothing else. Part of the waves where Hasbro revised the Action Collection packaging, Mace Windu comes in a full Windu box with a beautiful dioramic background. Mace Windu is another highlight of the Action Collection line. You should consider him for your collection!
