The embodiment of Jedi ideals, Obi-Wan Kenobi is both wise and strong. His patience and keen powers of observation have served him well as one of the Jedi Order's most masterful negotiators. These qualities are matched in measure by his swiftness and skill with a lightsaber, making him Master Yoda's first choice for many unconventional missions. Dependability and trustworthiness are traits the Jedi Council have come to associate with Obi-Wan for his loyalty to the Order and to the Republic.
Having taken on the training of Anakin Skywalker since the death of his own Master Qui-Gon Jinn on Naboo, Obi-Wan has tutored the young Jedi in the ways of the Force to the best of his ability. His time as Anakin's guide have made Obi-Wan wise beyond his years, and he is able to recognize both Anakin's strengths and weaknesses. The two are bonded as student and teacher, remaining together long after Anakin's graduation to full Jedi Knight. Their trust in one another and complementary styles help mold them into a virtually unstoppable team in battle.
After returning from a border dispute, the reputable pair was called by the Supreme Chancellor to protect the threatened life of Senator Padme Amidala. As Anakin escorted Padmé to her home world of Naboo, Obi-Wan investigated a mysterious weapon left by a would-be assassin. His investigation leads him to seek out the hidden planet of Kamino and eventually discover the vast clone army the Kaminoans have secretly been commissioned to create. Obi-Wan's discovery would forever change the face of the galaxy.
The Sideshow Collectibles 1:6 Scale Obi-Wan Kenobi (Jedi Knight) figure as he was portrayed in Star Wars Episode II: Attack Of The Clones arrived to collectors with much excitement. The figure was essentially overlooked by many when it went up for pre-order and this could be gauged by the extremely low combined edition size. It was one was one of the smallest productions for such a popular Star Wars character. And it was a version of Obi-Wan that we desperately needed for our ever-growing collections. To make matters worse, collectors soon realized his limited availability was more of a problem than initially surmised and he is quite the sought-after 1:6 Scale Figure. And trying to track him down will be totally worth your while. While you may think that there isn't much new presented here (and you may just be exactly right), the sum of the parts makes for a very impressive 1:6 Scale Figure. Just Ewan McGregor's likeness alone is worthy of your consideration. It has been perfectly captured and that is just the tip of the iceberg on what makes this figure so spectacular. You may complain about the microscopic exclusive accessory, the Kamino dart (and your argument would hold water), but this figure offers so much more that should take your mind off of its potential negatives.
Sideshow was very clever to utilize the mold of the General Obi-Wan Kenobi (Jedi Master) portrait here for this figure. Because both of those characters are very close in the Star Wars timeline, it makes sense that Obi-Wan should look nearly identical in both outfits. And while you may think this is a simple head swap, it isn't. The paint jobs of the two portraits are unique and cast in different ways. You would have to compare them side by side to see all of the differences. But the real area to focus on this figure would be the Jedi outfit. Every detail of the Episode II costume has been replicated flawlessly here. Obi-Wan Kenobi has been beautifully dressed in a crepe fabric shirt that is bunched together by a realistic leather belt complete with storage pouches. His off-white pants are close-fitting, just like in the film, and his cordovan high boots are spectacularly recreated in one-sixth scale. The felted cloak is exactly on par to the one we saw in the film. From head to toe, Obi-Wan Kenobi (Jedi Knight) shines uncontrollably as the definitive Episode II collectible of him. This is honestly one sharp 1:6 Scale Figure and it puts the 2002 Hasbro 12" version to shame (by a lot). The Sideshow Collectibles just doesn't disappoint in any way. To not appreciate how well this figure was made would be a travesty.
Sideshow has taken some heat for the lack of accessories and price hike for the same old Art S. Buck body type used. And we really have to agree with some of the comments we hear out there from the loyal collectors. Where are the days of a “real metal” battle droid head that came with Kit Fisto or the Jango Fett head that came with Mace Windu. We sorely miss these extra exclusive and very well thought out exclusive accessories and hope Sideshow finds a way to bring these clever add-ons back to their figures. In an age where exclusive means a different base for the figure in place of an actual “thing”, it is becoming a little disheartening that more care isn’t going into ensuring collectors remain happy. And it seems to be taking a toll on the line. Editions sizes are getting smaller and prices are going higher. This isn’t a good mix for a healthy sustenance of the line. But while we have been drawing your attention to our concerns here more than our praise of the figure, we really don’t have complaints about the quality of the figure. It is awesome from head to toe and it is one of Sideshow’s finest moments in the line. With a limited edition of 1000 pieces for the exclusive version (with the Kamino dart) and 1500 for the regular edition, there definitely aren't many pieces to go around and this piece may eventually command a premium price on eBay one day soon.
