Handpicked from the Stormtrooper legions for their aptitude and loyalty, purge troopers accompany Inquisitors on especially dangerous missions. These troopers receive additional training to make them a cohesive unit, formidable against any Jedi threat.
Well, we finally have an Airborne Trooper head sculpt so Hasbro can make the fan-favorite Clone Trooper from Star Wars Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith now! Triple Force Friday focused on three major Star Wars multimedia events. One of them, Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order is a video game, and Hasbro produced a few characters for The Black Series [Phase III] 6” line and made them available for Triple Force Friday. More figures are on the way, and getting released as we speak. One of the latest, the Purge Stormtrooper, comes with the Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order video game bundle, which released on November 15, 2019. The Purge Stormtrooper 6” figure by itself will be sold separately, after the hoopla about the game sides down a little. Hasbro confirmed its subsequent individual release at conventions throughout the USA and Europe. It’s no different than any other GameStop Hasbro exclusive release. The Purge Stormtrooper is mostly rehashed with previously existing parts, along with some newness. Some fans of the 6” line are tired of clones, but the fresh approach the Purge Stormtrooper takes is something we’re confident will interest the most jaded of collectors (when it comes to Prequel Trilogy clones). Let’s take a look at what’s happening with this very cool-looking action figure.
Purge Stormtrooper doesn’t feel any different than the various Skittles-colored Clone Trooper action figures Hasbro produced back in the day (from 2005 up until The Vintage Collection went active in 2010). Throughout those years, we received a ton of Clone Trooper action figures, all in different colors and styles. From the Order 66 sets from the 30 (77-07) line to the various single-carded figures, we got our fair share of colorful clones. Hasbro also produced a smaller series of “shadow” Clone Trooper action figures as well. And this is where the Purge Stormtrooper comes into play. Looking like the character was ripped right out of Hasbro’s 3.75” line, the Purge Stormtrooper resembles one of those “shadow” Clone Troopers, as the Utapau Shadow Trooper Hasbro made years ago. It’s great to see how some of Hasbro’s earliest action figures are inspiring the line today. The Purge Stormtrooper has a name that feels like it wrongly identifies the character, but the finished figure turned out well beyond our expectations. We’re confident that Star Wars collectors around the world will enjoy it tremendously. Hasbro didn’t go too crazy with the figure's accessories, but the figure comes with standard clone gear including the DC-15 blaster and the DC-15 blaster rifle.
Based on the 2014 The Black Series [Phase I] Clone Trooper (#14) figure along with the pauldron from 2013’s The Black Series [Phase I] Sandtrooper (#03) figure, Hasbro added an all-new portrait of what most Star Wars fans identify as an Airborne Trooper (cast in black plastic with red and silver details). The look of this figure is as odd as it is interesting. Looking at the figure, you can easily see how this character would be one of the clones to wipe out the remaining Jedi after the main event of Order 66 transpired. Hasbro achieved a stunning glossy finish on the Purge Stormtrooper. This is achieved by having the factories in China polish the tooling over and above what they normally do for other figures. The insert-molded plastic pulls out of the mold shinier and smoother when the tooling is polished finely. As a result, the Purge Stormtrooper is a very glossy action figure, but it looks natural. There is a nice amount of detail on the Purge Stormtrooper too. You’ll find double white lines on his right thigh and both of his forearms. Additionally, Hasbro added red details to the kama and shoulder armor too. It’s a smart-looking figure, and it fits right at home in the red and black packaging. You’ll want to add this figure to your collection as soon as humanly possible.
