In 1997, Kenner/Hasbro released two Collector Series two-packs as FAO Schwarz exclusives that went over hugely with the Star Wars collecting community. They were so popular with Star Wars fans that there weren’t enough produced to meet the demand of everyone who wanted to purchase the sets. Both the Jedi Luke Skywalker & Bib Fortuna and Grand Moff Tarkin & Imperial Gunner (With Interrogator Droid) two-packs contained never-before-released and popular Star Wars characters. So they had to find a way to get some of them back out into the market again, but with changes to keep the originals exclusive. Luke Skywalker (In Jedi Gear) is based on the Jedi Luke Skywalker figure from the FAO Schwarz set. This time, Kenner/Hasbro omitted the cloak, changed the lightsaber blade, added a femur bone, and repainted the figure to freshen it up for the 1998 product line. With lighter hair, a slightly darker costume, and a neat glow-in-the-dark lightsaber blade, this version of Luke is scene-specific to the character’s moments in the rancor pit. The costume is not fully accurate, however. Luke is wearing a black glove that he didn’t put on until after the Battle of Carkoon. But the new accessories help to soothe the issues with this figure. The bone is large and accurately scaled to the prop in the film. Luke Skywalker (In Jedi Gear) looks fantastic, holding it as well. Luke Skywalker (In Jedi Gear) isn’t perfect by any means, but it’s a fun release. And if you collect the Action Collection line how can you possibly pass on a glowing lightsaber, and femur bone?
