"Along time ago in a galaxy far, far away...."

The adventure continues with this exciting introduction of exclusives figures from the Star Wars trilogy! Authentically styled with incredible detail, each fully poseable,

COLLECT THEM ALL!

AT-AT drivers maneuver their massive machines of destruction close to the doomed Rebel base.

One of the most popular Collector Series figures from 1997 was the AT-AT Driver. Its popularity was so great that Kenner/Hasbro thought it should be one of the first re-released figures in the Action Collection line when the 12 Inch Figure scale transitioned to the new format. What collectors may not have expected, however, is that they tweaked the paint operation in a rather significant way to set it apart from the original Service Merchandise exclusive release. At first glance, you might not see the differences right away, but careful inspection of a side by side comparison will allow you to itemize the differences easily. Most of the differences exist in the helmet and chest box. The updated AT-AT Driver now comes with parallel black lines on the “cheeks” of the helmet. You’ll also find that many of the “buttons” that were left unpainted on the first release now have color and are no longer “white.” There is a red dot on the left vocoder too. And the grill of the helmet is now all-black. The silver details are eliminated. The color of the tubes, the boots, and the fabric jumpsuit are all different as well. We’d say the revitalized 1998 release is a smidge better than the original release, but we unequivocally prefer the packaging to the first version. (The “open book” style is preferred among most collectors.) It’s excellent to see the AT-AT Driver available in the Action Collection line. And the updates make it feel like it’s worthwhile to repurchase this toy. Ultimately, the choice is yours.
