We believe focusing our attention on the Millennium Falcon (Electronic) vehicles from The Power Of The Force “2” line for Star Wars Day is an appropriate thing. Is there a more iconic vehicle that represents the Original Trilogy than the Millennium Falcon? When The Power Of The Force “2” line launched in the summer of 1995, collectors began speculating what Hasbro would add into the toy line. Thankfully, we didn’t have to wait long to get the first modern interpretation of the Millennium Falcon in the Kenner/Hasbro Star Wars toy line. Based on the original tooling of Kenner’s 1978 STAR WARS Millennium Falcon, they tooled an all-new sculpt, complete with 1995 date stamp, added electronics and few other bells and whistles, and provided the Star Wars collecting community with an admirable effort. If you grew up with the original Millennium Falcon, you know what to expect here. However, Kenner/Hasbro added electronics to give the vehicle movie-specific sound effects and added lights to recreate blaster fire in addition to the headlights we see Han Solo utilize in The Empire Strikes Back. The Millennium Falcon (Electronic) release is something that all modern collectors should consider for their collections. It’s a riot to see it again. And we’re happy to see all of the tweaks made to it to make it relevant for the mid-nineties.

The Millennium Falcon (Electronic) vehicle comes with a HUGE decal sheet. Prepare to spend about an hour applying every last decal, from large to small, to jazz up an already well-painted vehicle. The decorative stickers breathe life into the Millennium Falcon (Electronic) vehicle, and we’re happy to see such attention given to its appearance. The interior has most of the original features present. The gunner station is awkward and claustrophobic, but as impressive as it ever was. And the hidden smuggling cargo compartment still fits the new action figures, albeit less of them, despite their larger size. There isn’t a training remote this time, but the Dejarik game table is still here, complete with an updated decal with more detail. The interior is quite colorful, and then the stickers that go on inside help accentuate the vehicle’s brightness inside. And the lowering ramp is much too small still but is present once again for access to the ship’s innards. The electronics add a great deal to the Millennium Falcon (Electronic) vehicle. They include flashing laser cannon and front running lights. And the press of a button activates screaming engine fly-by and firing quad laser cannons. You’ll also hear “jump-to-lightspeed” and “takeoff” and “emergency alarm: sound effects as well. To activate the electronic features, the Millennium Falcon (Electronic) needs two C batteries.

We’ve mentioned the decal sheet, but we should also point out that the base paint operations are a stark difference from the Millennium Falcon vehicles released during the vintage Kenner era. The Millennium Falcon (Electronic) is light gray, and has multiple areas filled with orange squares and dark gray squares. You’ll also find a gradient of darker gray starting at the front of the vehicle, and it fades as you head to the back of it. It looks like dirt collection and gives the Millennium Falcon (Electronic) a live-in look like so many other Star Wars vehicles have as well. Overall, we’re quite pleased with the visual appearance of the Millennium Falcon (Electronic) vehicle. Collectors should approve of it too. So now that we have an updated and modern Millennium Falcon for the Star Wars toy line, is there anything else to mention? Yes, there is. The vehicle is terribly out of scale. We need an all-new Millennium Falcon tooled from the ground up, large, and with more features. A Millennium Falcon (Electronic) vehicle of this size and stature served its purpose well. And if you’re someone who grew up in the 80s, you didn’t find anything wrong with this toy. But in the modern toy line, you can see how limited the Millennium Falcon (Electronic) is. Retailing for $49.99, we need many more action figures released to interact with this “re-released” beauty.
