In 2004, Hasbro began production of an augmented and much-improved Millennium Falcon to launch with the Revenge Of The Sith line for 2005. But then The Original Trilogy Collection happened." And with that unscheduled interruption, Hasbro switched their plans around and ensured that the retooled vehicle became a focal point for The Original Trilogy Collection. (Editor's Note: It would subsequently get its Revenge Of The Sith released as a Toys R Us exclusives the following year.) There wasn't much fanfare for the Millennium Falcon's upgrades, and it's believed that many collectors still don't know how significantly updated the 2004 Millennium Falcon is. The Original Trilogy Collection Millennium Falcon is still not to scale. In case you're not aware, it's a modified version of 1995's The Power Of The Force "2" [Red/Green] Millennium Falcon (Electronic) release. So get the idea that it's larger out of your head. It's not. But now that you know, it's still worth your time if you take a couple of moments and digest the many enhancements this vehicle received. There were so many changes implemented here that you wouldn't be incorrect in thinking that this was an all-new vehicle. In many ways, it does feel like that. Hasbro enhanced the OTC Millennium Falcon with new (and stunning) electronic lights and (screen-accurate) sounds. But that's not all that's new here. You're going to find that some of the smallest updates here make the vehicle a tremendous addition to your Star Wars collection. And you'll quickly realize how this 2004 OTC Millennium Falcon makes 1995's POTF2  Millennium Falcon (Electronic) obsolete. Let's take a detailed look and analyze what makes this release far superior to its predecessor. Almost a decade transpired in between this vehicle release and the first version released in 1995. And there's a decade worth of improvements here as a result.

There are many features new for 2004. Let's itemize them. Hasbro added a new port in the front center of the Millennium Falcon for a firing missile projectile. It comes with a bright translucent red plastic projectile, and the firing button is on the top front of the vehicle. The vehicle received a completely all-new paint job. They chose an excellent base color for the plastic. And they focused on adding dirt where it makes the most sense, like the sides and top front of the Millennium Falcon. The new paint job necessitates fewer decals, and you'll find a drastically reduced decal sheet inside of the box. Hasbro used about half of the "stickers" this time around. They're newly colored, and some are altogether new. Hasbro also retooled the Millennium Falcon's cockpit. They enlarged the interior to allow for more significant figures like Chewbacca, but until they tool a new Millennium Falcon from scratch, don't expect two action figures to fit inside comfortably. There are no chairs or buckets seats, and they sit in a space" that is not nearly as roomy as it needs to be here. However, it's worth noting that the OTC figures do fit better inside. We should also note that the new control panel fits inside of cockpit in two different ways. Typically, it sits in the upper half of the canopy. But you can also remove it and place it on the bottom half of the cabin over the figure's legs (loosely) if you're interested in creating a display with this configuration instead. Hasbro generously updated the connection points to many areas that work together to create a streamlined aesthetic for the Millennium Falcon. There are no more ill-fitted connection points. Don't overlook what an incredible revisit this was to the Millennium Falcon. It's a godsend. Hasbro went above and beyond here to produce a toy that would interest Star Wars collectors of all ages, and we feel they succeeded here with all of that.

For example, the hinge on the ramp door's connections are retooled, and it now closes tightly without looking ajar. It's a tight fit now. More importantly, the same is true for the cockpit. It comes with a new and improved hinge-joint that makes it lie flush against the bottom portion when closed. But it also now stays open when figures are inside. The canopy closes securely, thanks to the redesigned/modified parts. New hinges on the back panel also enable it to rest flush against the Millennium Falcon's "play area" so that it camouflages itself without seams when covered. And while this functionality was available on the 1995 version, the updated hinge tabs allow you to securely attach the false floor on the underside of the back panel when not in use. Some other features include a "screwed down" Dejarik game table. The battery hatch also screws shut. The radar dish has a thicker and sturdier plug to attach to the top of the Millennium Falcon, but the radar dish doesn't stay "up" as well this time around. You'll also notice that the ramp struts are also modified. The same four buttons on the 1995 version are also here, but they activate much more impressive lights and sounds for the 2004 release. Perhaps the best update to the 2004 OTC Millennium Falcon is the newly redesigned sublight engines (at the rear of the vehicle). They now feature brilliantly blue light-up electronics along with interacting sound effects. It's a stunning display, and this upgrade alone makes the Millennium Falcon worth its repurchase. It feels like Hasbro was inspired to design this feature because of what's seen in A New Hope Special Edition, but that's not provable. Also, the afront firing electronics are now red. And Hasbro kept the headlights white. 2004's The Original Trilogy Collection Millennium Falcon is a fantastic update for the Hasbro Star Wars line. You shouldn't ignore it for a second.
