Scout Trooper - TBS [P3] - Six Inch Figures (Exclusive)

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order features Scout Troopers, often tasked with reconnaissance or long-ranged engagements, but also capable fighters when a target gets near.

The Black Series 6” collectors should count themselves fortunate. They’re getting a whole range of characters from videogames under the “Gaming Greats” categorized sub-line, while fans of The Vintage Collection get nothing. Hasbro is smartly utilizing existing tooling with a few new parts to produce a sub-line of characters that are as relevant today as they were years ago in some of Lucasfilm’s most significant games of all time. They’re also adding characters from new videogames, like Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order’s Scout Trooper. Coming with a new vest and a new accessory called an electro riot baton, the latest entry into the Gaming Greats line is an action figure that many collectors will add to their collections. In the videogame, the Scout Trooper can block lightsaber attacks in a limited fashion. And their defense is quickly diminished. The Scout Troopers are easily defeated in single combat but dangerous in numbers. It’s a shame that collectors can’t afford to purchase all of the Scout Troopers that they need to have those kinds of overwhelming numbers.

Initially part of 2014’s TBS [P2] Speeder Bike With Biker Scout Deluxe set (which performed terribly by the way when offered initially), the Scout Trooper gets another single-packaged release in The Black Series [Phase III] line. Hasbro also tweaked it for GameStop’s Gaming Greats sub-line. Hasbro updated the paint operations making it closer to what’s seen in the videogame, but they also gave the action figure new equipment and accessories. However, one thing not enhanced is the micro blaster that fits nicely into the holster on the right boot but looks ridiculously small when added to the figure’s extra-small hand. Why couldn’t Hasbro update this feature on the figure, so it doesn’t look so silly? The new accessory here is the electro riot baton. It comes with a separately sculpted and movable electro effect cast in translucent blue plastic. We tried to remove it without any success, but it floats freely on the baton. The baton also extends out for extra length, although the increase in size is negligible. The ammo vest is new, and a cord from it attaches down to a bracelet around the figure’s right wrist.

Mostly, the Scout Trooper has a wonderfully fantastic sculpt, and the paint job is remarkably excellent. You’ll find a few spots of dirt accumulating throughout the figure, but it’s not as dirty as previous versions. All of the deco Hasbro applied to this figure is firmly in place, which is a great thing. Hasbro manufactured the original Biker Scout in a terrible quality of plastic. This release feels stronger, much like The Black Series Archive Scout Trooper figure, but it still isn’t perfect. What’s nice about this release is that the Scout Trooper doesn’t have any “stretched out” joints like the Deluxe version. But that’s because this version of the character isn’t seated on a Speeder Bike. Still, the focus of our outrage is the figure’s blaster pistol. Not only is it too tiny, but it fits terribly in the figure’s small hands. We’d like to see quite a few more Gaming Greats figures releases, but Hasbro should probably develop the cast of characters from the Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order videogame first. There are some excellent characters within it, and we hope that they produce as many as they can from this multimedia event.
