Special 2 Action Figures [Dengar/IG-88] - RC - Multipacks

Dengar is an effective bounty hunter preferring firepower and destruction to finesse and style. And IG-88 is a chrome war droid turned bounty hunter who answered the call to capture the Millennium Falcon.

Hasbro has confidence in the Retro Collection line. But we have to wonder why there is such a strong focus on products inspired by The Empire Strikes Back when they should buckle down and focus on characters from Return Of The Jedi’s imminent 40th Anniversary. Still, bounty hunters are always welcomed additions to any format Hasbro produces, and now we have two more thanks to the 2 Special Action Figures [Dengar/IG-88] two-pack. The set includes Dengar and IG-88, faithful representations of their vintage Kenner counterparts. There are some notable differences between the action figures, and that’s because more than four decades separate them. If you recall, Dengar came with two distinct colors for the face, and Hasbro opted to go with the paler option. In our comparison image, you’ll see we compare it against the face with a more robust yellow hue. IG-88 also came in two flavors back in the early 80s: gray and silver. It appears that Hasbro went somewhere between the two, but it looks grayer than silver. Hasbro cast the weapons in dark blue plastic, a notable trademark of the Kenner The Empire Strikes Back Star Wars action figures of the 1980s, so we’re glad to see that follow-through here. However, IG-88’s arms are curled a bit, whereas the classic Kenner figure comes with arms without any bend. Overall, the pairing of Dengar and IG-88 works well. It’s lovely to see these action figures again and in packaging that was available when we were kids. We know the Retro Collection isn’t for all Star Wars collectors, but we’re thankful Hasbro decides to keep this niche collection in production. This line has many other opportunities, and we hope Hasbro keeps the ball rolling. With the Boba Fett/Bossk set out, and now this one available, we anticipate Hasbro will announce a 4-LOM/Zuckuss two-pack, and if they do, it will make us very happy. We would then have all of the vintage Kenner bounty hunters in the Retro Collection if that came to pass.
